Nice video! When it comes to cold beer and food, I take my 15L dry bag, put my beer and frozen whatever in the bottom then add cubed ice to cover it then roll it up tight. It will keep stuff cold for hours and this gives me water for cleanup after I cook without having to use my drinking water. Thanks again!

Great videos, as always. Going to do a BDR at the end of summer. Very informative. Been motocamping for several years and think I got my kit pretty well dial in (thanks to advice in your 3 or 4 years old packing video on the AT), but some refresher is always good. And by the way, cracking open an IPA is always the first I do after parking the bike in the camp spot and taking my helmet off. 😊

Great vid! On the way of gear, I have the identical bike (2020 GSA Exclusive) and I'm 5'7" so I got the lower seat and wear higher boots to cope with having short legs. But my suggestion is 45 degree handle bar risers as they make the lounge suite on two wheels even more comfortable. Also...The Bilby Head Lamp is an incredible head lamp, so if you're not 100% happy with the one you have, check that one out.

I roll my pillow and that just makes more sense to keep it nice and flat. Thanks for sharing that tire changing mat suggestion. WABDR trip would of been miserable with a hoodie, was one of the best suggestion on the puffy jacket. Keep’em coming Kyle. Always good to learn different ways to lighten my travel kit.

Often overlooked is bringing some amusements along for long trips. Even back in the 80s I used to carry a shoulder bag that I’d rest on the fuel tank, that had a couple of handheld electronic games, a portable chess set, chess puzzle book, a couple of paperbacks, pack of cards, a decent small radio 📻, etc. Never, ever got bored in my tent ⛺️ at night.

@@BecomingTuna Thanks for your contribution here. If I was off-grid for a long time I’d definitely consider a kindle. I’ve got a handheld Nintendo DS XL wide screen and 3 games cards that contain 100 classic books each. The British version, American version, and the children’s version. There’s some overlap but all up about 180 different books. The drawback is most are old works, but the good news is about 90 I’d read willingly and about 20 I’d read again and again. Robinson Crusoe: Wuthering Heights, etc. The Nin’ also has reasonable chess, solitaire and scrabble cards, along with a few learn a language cards like French, Chinese, etc. I’ve even got a small emergency battery unit that takes 3 AAA batteries that powers the Nin’ 2 1/2 times. And a portable solar powered battery that will do the same. Now all this has become fairly old tech but it still works for me. Okay, I’m kind of envious about the kindle … so maybe one day … 😊

You’re almost certainly correct here. Sports stars teams that travel in relative comfort often take their own pillows. Years ago in the 80s when I did long motorcycle commutes and my share of stealth camping … I took my fair share of comfortable bedding including a pillow !

Nice packing video. I have the same mattress - the inflator bag works well but that pump would be great to have. Big Agnes makes great stuff - I’d like to add a Bike Pack sized tent because my Moto Tent is just too big. Now if I could figure out how to shrink my stuff down from the 75 pound pack that I just had out 😂

I camp off my Harley, so I don't venture too far off the pavement. I liked the video, and like you, Love my morning 'Joe!'. I take a jar of Medaglia D'Oro Instant Espresso. I love the stuff, and I'm confident you will too. Just a mug of hot water, a couple of spork fulls, and the day seems brighter! My camp is a plow point Poncho tied to the high side mirror of the bike, a tyvek ground sheet, a goretex bivy stuffed with an air mat and a lite down bag. My mess is a titanium mug loaded with a bic, aluminum foil, fuel tabs, a spork, P38, Granola Bars, and the aforementioned M D'O, and creamer packs. I'll eat out local at the first diner down the road... Three rocks, and some dry squaw will proved for enough of a stove top to heat and boil some water. I may start bringing a tenkara rod and some nymphs, that'd add to the fun... After each trip, pair down what you bring. Hindsight is 20/20... You've got a very compact kit... well done. Safe travels to you... and try riding here in Idaho!

Picking up the inflater for my air mattress. Was trying to use my motorcycle tire pump, but its slow, and that thing gets hot. Works great on tires, not so good on air mattresses.

I carry most of what you mentioned when I go moto camping ⛺️ with my CBR1000RR. Including an axe and Agawa saw (for fire wood, not trail riding). I have a 47 litres Givi top box mounted where the rear seat would normally be. My tent is a Big Agnes Copper Spur HVUL 1. I also have a Kriega R25 just for a water bladder (3 litres). I keep the backpack as empty as possible. No fishing with the CBR though. 😂

So glad you did this video! I’m still struggling to fit all my stuff into my back country bags, a 25l scout and 60 l water proof bag. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but my sleeping bag, tent and pad are certainly bigger than your stuff.

Also i thought you were 6' lol I'm 5'9 and went from a rally raid cb500x to tenere 700 and i've gotten more comfortable on the tenere 700 but still know if i get into some slick or very loose material i have a chance of not getting my foot down good enough to keep from going over if i have some momentum going that direction

I carry a telescoping fishing pole I also don't pack beer not that I don't like beer I just don't like to pack beer when riding and I'm not picky with coffee so I bring instant coffee saves room, I like your sleeping set up I carry about the same as far as bulk but yours is way more up to date and looks a lot more comfortable

I try to carry a couple freeze dried meals as back ups, but generally try to stop at a store as I go though towns for fuel before heading to a camp spot. There are some great freeze dried meals out there, but it’s hard to beat camp cooking.

Love this vid. I’ve been wondering what sleeping bag that was so I’ll check them out. I managed to pick up a big Agnes copper spur hv UL3 bike packing tent at a sale here in Montana. Didn’t want to go 3 person but I like the concept and it was the only one available. Got it for 30% off! I’m fairly certain they’re a lot like the tiger wall. Looking forward to heading up there to (hopefully) do the IDBDR and maybe meet you along the way. Do most people go north to south or vice versa? I’d like to go the way most people do to have the opportunity to meet fellow adv riders.

I have the Mosko Moto reckless 80 system, with a 22L tail bag that I carry my sleeping gear in, however, I'm having trouble finding a sleeping bag/quilt system that packs down small, even with compression sacks. Every sleeping bag I've bought has taken up a lot of room in my bags. You have the link to the system you use and does it pack down small?

Just subbed, working my way through your channel. Just wondering though why you don’t have a multi fuel stove on your travels as you could use the gas from your bike in a push ! Great question. I do actually have one, but it is very rare that I am somewhere that does not have the ability to purchase other ones along my route. Not to mention one small fuel canister for what I do in the type of cooking I do in life meme easily 10 days to two weeks.

Kyle, quick question. Have you lowered your GS? I’m the same height as you and have been riding my F 800 gs unmodified in height outside of the seat concepts lowered seat I put on it. I’m on my tip toes when coming to a stop. Never had an issue when moving just when I’m coming to a stop. Especially off camber. Been looking at getting a 1250 gs. I’m a few decades plus older than you. Don’t know how much more serious off roading I’ll be doing as I’m getting a new hip soon. Just finished the MABDR yesterday afternoon. Interested to see where all you take your gs

No, I have not lowered it. I did just recently get a lowered seat from seat concepts, I haven’t really had any issues with the height. I’m kinda like you and I’m on the balls of my feet when stopped.l before the seat. The GS is nice though because you can actually put it in low mode and lower the suspension down where I am actually flat footed. I rarely use this feature though unless I am in town or in stop and go traffic because you do lose quite a bit of ground clearance.

Nope, I’ve camped in Montana and North Idaho more times than I count and I’ve never had a problem with Bears. Moose on the other hand have come into my camp a few times. I carry a firearm and occasionally carry bear spray, but I know guys who have had bear spray go off in their panniers or burst when the bike goes down. Plus from my military and LE experience bear spray is just an large version of pepper spray and depending on the wind, can also hurt the user and trust me, that’s not something you wanna add when trying to defend a bear. Just my 2 cents

One reason I carry a bear AND critter proof bag is that I have had my food compromised by both bears and little gnawing critters. Several times. I don't want to wake up to my food with holes in every packet.

I want to give you advice, which is that the successful motorcycle channels that make a high percentage of viewers always about traveling and transportation from one place to another, and you live in America and its a big country , vast and beautiful country, and there are many states in it, and now you own a BMW R1250 with Big Gas Tank , Fully equipped, Primarily intended for long travel and long distances. I advise you to kill two birds with one stone, to travel and see new places and make more experience and Get more views .

I try to stay clear of rivers while moto camping as it is a prime place for bears and other wild animals, unless a firearm or bear spray is being carried, regardless of local laws.

Some might go for top of the line side saddle bags but in my multiple 1980s 1,000 miles plus 2 day commutes in Australia, I had a couple of cheap old army disposals hessian bags that did the job nicely. I did make sure I had a comfortable sleeping bag, though, and because it was not cold weather I could get away without a mattress, just pitch the tent on soft ground. After travelling all day, I was so tired it didn’t matter where I was. Did my share of what is known today as stealth camping.
