To be clear, it was unacceptable for the DLC to launch in this state, it should have never come out like this; but it did. I want to use my platform to get the best outcome possible, I want apply pressure on gearbox when they deserve it, but I also want to ease off when they make a good move, and that's something that's incredibly hard to balance. The last thing I want is for Gearbox to abandon the game, I want them to fix it; so I think it's important to recognize when they take a step in the right direction. I'm incredibly angry about the DLC, but I want to use my platform in a productive way, and i'm not really sure how to strike the right balance. This is by far the hardest thing I've had to deal with in my entire career as a content creator and I'm not really sure what's right.

Personally, I say refund the DLC and rollback to the last functioning version of the game. We need to vote with our wallets on this one. For you, good sir, I would say your best bet is to dive into the modding scene even further. Unless Gearbox/Take-Two makes a total 180 on the update, they aren't worth giving any of your money to. Personally, I don't like any of the new content in the DLC, so I'll be rolling back to a previous ROR2 version and playing with mods from now on. Even if they fix the update bugs, I still don't know that I would re-purchase the DLC. I just don't like anything they added. Save for the maps, it all feels lazy, and none of it meshes with the rest of the game very well, in my opinion. They don't understand what we want, and it's painfully obvious. Go for the mod scene. Follow the community that loves the game for the game, not for how much money it can make them. At the end of the day, you're a content creator. You've picked one of the most volatile careers I can imagine. Purely because of situations like this that are totally beyond your control. I've watched the gaming scene very closely for a while now, and I've watched it happen countless times. Content creators hop on a hype train, but it never lasts. The games lose popularity, or the devs make a shit decision and ruin their own game, or in this case, someone else's game. Then, the community is irreversibly divided between the fundamentalists who love the original game for what it was, and the folks who couldn't care less and buy whatever is shoveled into their face next, regardless of quality. It's an absolute shame, but it's absolutely the reality of the situation.

Don't let the most forgiving of us make you feel like settling for a subpar outcome is right. Either way, people are going to feel very different about this. One thing is for sure, if they don't abondon having the code unity, this will never work correctly.

I did get a refund. Hopefully once this patch is out and some of the more gamebreaking bugs are fixed I'll pick up the DLC again. I love the game though I still suck at it, and I want to see this improve. Hopoo is great, and may Take 2 and Gearbox see the love the community has for the game.

You get in, make promises to fans and investors, ship it out as quickly as possible, and run to the bank. Rarely do any of the people responsible for fucking up games actually pay for it. It's almost always the people on the ground level who had no control over anything that pay the price. Often, with their jobs.

Not to rain on this small parade, but considering it sounds like we have confirmation that Take-Two sacked a chunk of RoR2's devteam @ Gearbox, I don't think it's entirely on Gearbox to hire more people for the team at this point. Like I don't think it's their decision, they're owned by T2 now. Those positions wouldn't have been laid off if Take-Two was willing to keep them to begin with, and especially after everything going on right now I would be shocked if this changed. Take-Two and these other mega publishers are basically the grim reapers of indies, and they likely only wanted Gearbox for the Borderlands IP and all of the money BL4 will rake in. I love RoR2, but at the end of the day it is really just a cheaply priced indie darling whose revenue is probably more like a rounding error to a company like Take-Two, and I have no faith these ghouls will allow anything more than the absolute bare minimum for the Risk of Rain IP's future development and the upkeep of RoR2. Take-Two's annual revenue last fiscal year was $5.4 billion USD btw, with an annual gross profit of $2.3 billion. Meanwhile, RoR2's lifetime net revenue is only $67 million, so I'm not kidding when I say it's like a rounding error to these guys.

Take-Two was also likely (pure speculation tbh) the driver behind the DLC suddenly going 9 months without a release date to suddenly coming out less than a week after it's announcement, incredibly sus and not normal to say the least. The DLC obviously needed more time and I also just don't **want** to believe Gearbox willingly released half-finished non-QA'd slop, I'd bet money that Take-Two made them release it earlier than they planned. Take-Two also just killed off (as in completely dissolved, they no longer exist and everyone was fired) two big indie studios a few months ago right before purchasing Gearbox, Intercept Games (Kerbal Space Program & KSP2 devs) and Roll7 (devs of Rollerdrome & OlliOlli World) so that's why some of us were already incredibly worried even before this fresh news of the Gearbox RoR2 devteam layoffs hit. It just looks really grim honestly and it's pretty disheartening. I hope Take-Two and Gearbox both see a future for RoR and are willing to invest in it, but the writing on the walls doesn't look good from any angle I can see.

Baldur's Gate 3 for example was only possible with it's estimated $100million+ USD production cost because Larian Studios are a privately owned company, making them only beholden to their own CEO who adores games as art. Larian said "we want to make the best CRPG ever made in the history of videogames" and spent ~5 years putting everything they had into it. For publicly traded companies like Take-Two though, if shareholders don't see value and profit margin increases, you are failing them as a business, you can't just tread water on "ifs" and "maybes" if you're not producing positive results. Even the CEOs of these large publicly traded companies are just hired guns who pretty much answer to the board of directors, who are usually major shareholders of the company. They're basically you're bosses' bosses' boss, but they're effectively just worthless leeches whose entire job is not necessarily to protect those under or the longevity of the company itself but instead to increase business and profit margins so they can generate more income for themselves through their shares in the company. And these are the ghouls who effectively stand at the top of western capitalist society, and if I keep talking I'll end up going on an anti-capitalist rant lol. Anyway, these are the kind of people who at the end of the day are responsible for deciding whether RoR as an IP dies here in the dirt at it's lowest point, or gets to maybe try to come back from this. But like I said before, the fact that they immediately laid people off of RoR2's team right after purchasing Gearbox only 3 months ago is a very bad sign. The DLC is doing badly and reviewing horribly, and it's probably all blood in the water to these sharks who already bit a chunk out of the future of this game we love by laying off part of the team.

The Rally Point Delta bug is actually different than what you said the stage has a couple of variants one of them is where the crate is open the other one is where the crate is closed normally if the crate is open there will be a node where the teleporter can spawn in there but they forgot to remove it in the version of the stage where the crate is closed the bug can happen on both PC and console

They literally didn't even turn on the game once on XBox to see if it even boots up properly lol. Good thing Steam is giving refunds regardless of your playtime. What I've been thinking since we started to think the DLC got rushed, is that its very likely was due to those layoffs. If I had to guess, there was some internal release date/deadline that was made long before gearbox got bought, and was based off of the original devteam size. IMO, with how rushed it is, that deadline may have just been a "feature complete" deadline, where they mostly stop adding new features and focus on debug, but I have no basis for that. Either way, when they got bought and layoffs happened, Take-Two probably forced a release date around this internal deadline, despite it being only internal and with a larger dev team, which led to them going into crunch time and having to cut back on the DLC scope heavily, along with poor debugging. I mean, things from before the layoffs, like most maps, are quite cool IMO, and the devotion update was generally quite good, with only a couple bugs due to the codebase sync which was expected. I entirely blame the buyout and Take-Two, the devs are just getting unfairly bashed on both sides. Also, as much as I understand the dislike for the codebase sync, especially with the bugs it caused, it was very much needed. It was likely a large reason why consoles were so far behind in updates, and just caused so many issues. It sucks for us a bit, but it's invaluable for the devs going forward. Going back to separated codebases at this point would not only be practically impossible, but would cause even more issues and delays. I'm in software development, and I would never want to work on a game as big as ROR2 while having to deal with those codebase issues.

I think the main reason they unified the code base was to eventually bring cross platform/cross save to the game. Since cross platform is a huge selling point in games today.

I want to remind the community, if Gearbox does do the bare minimal and get the PAID CONTENT working we shouldn't be praising them. This was less then the bare minimal expected. This was extreme negligence to the point of it being identical to a scam. As a community we deserve some form of compensation when the higher up who pushed this out lines their pocket with money while the developers already got their pay. This is not acceptable treatment and shouldn't be tolerated, and we should hold it against them till compensation is had. If they see trying to scam us costs them, they won't try this again.

fun fact: the warped echo + chronic expansion invincibility isnt just on mithrix, its on ANYTHING without an item display for chronic expansion. The lack of a chronic expansion item display makes it so the counter on the item display also doesnt exist, making it so not just updating that counter, but the entire buff checking process for the entity gets completely bricked also longstanding solitude is supposed to increase the price of ONLY cash interactables by 100% per stack, but for pings this applies to everything for some reason
