Owned 2 10 speed mustangs, the trans is only good if you're absolutely ripping it; GM version with different valve body is much better. The way the ford one shifts in less predictable environments like daily driving is really really bad. 1-2 shift at redline usually drops you into neutral for 5 seconds before it slams into second.

@@robertadamski bro trust me I have been moved to Egypt in back in 2010 when I was young and I'm from Greece, my father had a 146 twinspark, and I was born into this car like I'm petrolhead since I'm 3 because of my dad's alfa 😅 In Greece I used to see Alfas everywhere and still there's alot, unfortunately people in Egypt don't understand in them so there's no Alfa's here, I've been to Cairo many times back in 2012 and I saw a 147, 156 pre facelift, I never saw anything since then, in the two cities I've been living I only saw a dark green 156 prefacelift which was next to my house, and a black 156 facelift 2.0L twinspark I believe! I miss Alfa so much haha I remember when I was 6 my father took me to a Alfa dealership and I saw the MiTo that was new, it was white with black wheels but I rushed for the red Brera 😍 I immediately felt In love with it and I was in the drivers seat, my first time seeing manual 6 gears! 😍

I've got a 10-Speed Mustang GT with PP1, Magneride, etc. Mine has wider 315s rear, 285s front, and some light bolt-ons on 93oct. The car is a performer, and it's nice to see another 10-Speed GT being properly wrung out.

S550+ mustangs are amazingly stable, especially given its size. I’ve got an ‘05 corvette z51 and my fiancé’s ‘19 GT feels significantly more predictable/ stable. It isn’t even a performance pack car so I imagine a nicely prepped one must be awesome!

Maybe some baffles in the sump could be a good thing. Watching the oil pressure drop through some of those corners at high RPM had me more worried than the overheating transmission!

The coyote engine is actually known to have issues with pumping all the oil to the top of the engine, passenger side specifically at sustained high rpm's. Ford's cheap fix was to add 2 additional quarts of oil with the composite oil pan starting in 2018.

@@bubbleman2002 Pretty cheap in America. It's less than $30usd (28 euros) for 5quarts (4.7L) of Mobil 1 or Pennzoil full synthetic at Wal-Mart. I sometimes buy 2 jugs (10qt) of oil to change my E90 BMW since it takes 6.9qt. Cost me $63 with tax. On my next change, I buy just 1 jug for $29 plus tax.

I have a Whippled 10 speed Mustang GT pushing 670 hp at the wheels. However I have all the supporting mods which are essential (interchiller, low temp thermostat, engine and large trans coolers) plus suspension and driveline mods. The car now stays cool under high stress for lengthy periods no problem. 100-200km/hr in the mid 5 sec so a lot of fun. Value for performance with a properly modded modern mustang is unbeatable.

If you put it in track mode it should be at the 7500 red line every time as long as your gas pedal is planted down, and the Ford Motorsports power pack like I have .. reflash the computer and transmission perfectly, better than stock and the way the car should have come, excellent driving and video as usual.

The 10 speed trans has to be modded for track use on the GT. The Mach 1 is better as it has upgraded cooling but even those can still have troubles. Plenty of discussion on various Track Mustang forums on what needs to be done and the parts available to make it work (and live) I know a gentleman with a 2018 GT that he’s turned into a track only car. He told me he upgraded the cooling system for the trans so it’s a separate system (stock it’s tied into the engine cooling system) He also had the internals upgraded to improve shift performance and durability. I’ve ridden in it a couple times at our local track and it’s mind blowing how much better it is……it feels like a DCT when it goes through the gears…..very fast, firm shifts. Best part though is he can beat on it lap after lap and it never overheats anymore.

Hi Misha. The Dark Horse will be available in Europe. Unfortuantely, EU wont be able to get the "Handling Pack" with the big wing, splitter, 19x10.5F 19x11R wheels with the Trofero RS tires (due to EU pedestrian protection rules). Still will be cool though.

Hopefully the trans isnt toast. Get the factory heater/cooler off of that thing. Install a thermal bypass delete, PBH trans cooler adapter fittings, and a big cooler (I like Setrab or Earls) up front.

@@falcon_gt_5.0 After 107 Celsius, varnish forms in the transmission fluid and it settles literally throughout the entire box, plus there have already been slipping clutches. I would immediately inspect the entire transmission, since we can definitely talk about burning of the clutches and the filter becoming dirty with their wear products. And God forbid you do a complete replacement of the transmission fluid, the transmission will die - only a partial replacement. But it’s still better to do a complete removal and inspection before the metal begins to deteriorate.

I’m glad to hear, but still, the transmission is definitely worth checking asap, since slipping of the clutches is serious, roughly speaking, you now have debris particles from the clutch pack floating in the transmission fluid. They wear out the pump, become clogged in the torque converter, filter, and damage the valves. Plus, the transmission fluid burns when the clutch pack slips. As with all hydraulics, the sooner you service it, the cheaper it will be in the end. If it’s not difficult, please post the results of the inspection here.

There is no clutch slip to make smoke. This is an automatic transmission everything is bathed in transmission fluid.

It's hard to keep the a10 happy on extended track sessions. It's got alot of potential but it's very finicky. There is a built in coolant bypass that doesn't even open till around 100c and once the trans reaches 110c it's done with life. There are mods out there to keep trans fluid flowing through the cooler all the time but the a10 doesn't like really cold fluid either and that hurts daily driveability.

Yea when i drive my mustang with it cold it really jerks into gear. Once temps are optimal its fine but wven just driving normally around my state i have gotten the trans temps to around 150 which i think is really high tbh but i dont understand why they dont have the best cooling for it especially cuz the load on it with it being a 10 speed auto.

the coyote oil pump has 3 different stages of pressure, my 2019 gt sits at about 20 psi till 3.5k rpm, jumps to 60 psi, and above 6 thousand it is at about 100 psi.

@FairladyS130 that's because the pressure spikes momentarily as the whole motor comes up the PSI that the pump is putting out. Once the whole motor's oil pressure equalizes, the pressure come back down a bit. Plus, once the spring in the oil pump bottoms out, at about 7k, the pressure steadily rises a bit up to redline due to the volume of oil flow increasing with rpm. Also, depending on the state of the Variable Cam Timing solenoid position, the oil pressure will raise and fall (slightly) depending on position of that solenoid.

@@catto191 Note that the oil pressure is generally and more consistently around 5 bar for the first few minutes and then starts to vary more widely as the lap continues. I suspect the thinner hotter oil is having an effect on the electronics you mentioned plus there could be momentary oil starvation.

I have the same transmission in my Ford F150 pushing 604HP and 665lbft even with Aux cooler it'll sit at around 100C in traffic conditions and continue heating up quickly so I usually lock it in 1st or 2nd. It handles power fine, but is so spongy on shifting it just heats up.

Awesome to see a vehicle from the states putting in some laps on track. Although it looks like a better trans and engine oil cooler is in order. I would also look at a baffled sump, oil pressure got as low as 20psi.

I just wanna clarify on the stock 10 speed mustang you drove before it doesn't change the redline you must have been hitting the stock speed governor in the stock mapping. I have the premium model that has the different drive modes and it shifts very well. I however got a custom palm beach mapping for E85 and trans tuning as well.

I had this happen to me once - the transmission fluid simply cooked itself and everything kind of stopped working for a while. So cooling it down won't necessarily solve the issue, though it should be fine to carefully drive to get serviced. Me, I didn't do that and the thing failed a few months later as the fluid was apparently no longer doing its job properly.

What oil was used in the motor and gearbox? Stock they drive 5w20 motoroil. Maybe also super thin and fast heating up gearbox oil. But yea its not a track ready car.

These 10r80 transmissions do have issues. I’ve seen on forums that they overheat on highway drives sometimes. Some from the factory come overfilled actually which will cause overheating issues.

The issue is not immediately changing the fluid after it gets cooked. Running on half-dead trans fluid increases wear to the point where the thing IS dead in a few months. Now, if the car is 8 years old and never had the fluid changed, then it's probably mostly turned to sludge and you have no options. But on something new like this, I'd change it every year if you track it.

Ford's AI on their transmissions is and has always been a bit brain-dead. I remember test-driving one and almost getting t-boned due to it simply taking a full second to shift into second at a light. It.. got confused and THEN decided to shift rather abruptly. In traffic, this is.. annoying and we are used to slow shifts. On a track, this is.. worrying to say the least.

Oil pressure had me real concerned. The transmission temp was mildly concerning by comparison.

Real problem is the Mustang still feels like a boat when you're cruising. Great laptimes but on a canyon run, the rear suspension really lives in its own world. I've had a 5.0 and a couple B58 powered cars, other than the tuning potential I think it would be a downgrade from the 5.0. 5.0 also has warrantied supercharger kits if you really want 700HP. The Coyote has a special presence all the way from idle to redline ...along with character with the way that it almost chases redline. The Barra is heavy with the iron block & the B58 feels like an economy motor under 4k and still has torque/HP falloff at high RPM.

It had a very conservative tune, a good tune would've let it rev way past that redline.

It may have smoked just tiny bit when it got hot, maybe it was nothing.. I watched the rear view cam to see any signs

I've gotten into arguments elsewhere with americans singing the praises about how amazing their big old all American v8s are and this is a case in point. Engines fine but as soon as you put sensors on stuff the car is quick to inform how maybe it's not so brilliant after all...

How do you cool down the gearbox ? Slow driving? Or high rpm? Or ghosting? I wonder.... Maybe just park it? Or do you get hot spots on the clutch gears in the gearbox?

Low rpm high gear for a couple of mins.

@@Blasterxp no, you need to go fast. This 10 speed mustang can go 100kmh at 1200rpm. You neex airflow for the trans cooler to cool the oil.
