OK, here is a situation that happened to me when I was driving on I-5 south towards Los Angeles. I was in the Grapevine mountains when the tires of the pickup in front of me burst and the vehicle suddenly stopped on the left most lane. I was driving my Honda CR-V 2017 EX-L with the cruise on and with all the Honda sensing features turned on. My car brakes applied even before my reflexes kicked in to stop the car. All I had to do was to swerve left to avoid the pickup...Thanks to Honda sensing...

I love the sensing on my 2016 EX Accord. It's not going to steer you through an obstacle course, but on a long highway trip you can relax and let the car do a little of the diving for you. I use the lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control all the time.

I was driving about 50 mph when the car to my right cut in front of me within 10 feet of my car. My car immediately began braking hard, by itself, trying to avoid what it thought was an imminent collision. Little did my Honda Clarity know that it was just normal L.A. traffic. I was impressed and glad to know the system works. I also really like Adaptive Cruise Control with Slow Speed Assist. It is amazing. Set your cruise control to say 70 mph and the Honda will maintain a selectable safe distance between you and the car in front up to the selected speed. The car in front can even stop for a short time (3 sec) and your Honda will also stop, then continue to move when the car in front moves. It totally prevents rear end collisions on my part and takes a lot of the stress out of driving in heavy traffic. Lane Keep Assist is a nice help, but don't expect it to drive for you. I have gone several miles using it, and not steering, but it's stressful and kind of keeps you in perfectly marked lanes like a DUI driver could. It's not Tesla money, it's Honda. Overall I love all safety systems in my Honda Clarity PHEV. My Clarity is flawless and my EV range is about 20% higher than its supposed to be, averaging between 58-62 miles range. I'm also averaging 375 mpg while driving about 18,000 miles a year. Your mileage will be higher if you drive less.

Did u say 358 mpg?
@voltecrules624
@voltecrules624 5 жыл бұрын
Gunslingerheel. It’s not hard to do. Just drive less than your battery range on a daily basis. If your daily commute is less than 50 miles your mpg would be much more than 375 mpg. I drive more than 50 miles daily. My job is 58 miles away. Yesterday I got 63 miles on a single charge. That is probably the best I can get round trip. I drafted large vehicles, safely, and coasted a lot. I drive slow too. But anyone can get the 47 miles per charge the car is rated for. I literally go thousands of miles on a single tank of gas because I usually drive mostly on battery. 375 x 7 gallons = 2,625 miles. Most drivers probably get more because they drive within the battery range.

VoltecRules VoltecRules 3?questions 1) I assume it pretty warm where u r given the ev mileage but is that 60 ev miles the norm for u 2) do u have any idea what ur gasoline only (mpg) is with the car? 3) what don’t you like about the car? And thanks in advance
@voltecrules624
@voltecrules624 5 жыл бұрын
Gunslingerheel 1). Average EV miles is between 58-60 miles. I drive in Los Angels with a lot of traffic. I drive 58 miles round trip to work. The elevation change is minimal from sea level to the elevation to Los Angeles downtown. Hills will kill EV miles. Cold and using the heater also kills EV miles. Stop and go traffic is great for EV miles. I used to drive in Sport with full regen applied, but if you really need to get more EV miles the. Drive in Normal and always apply regen to slow the car. Coasting helps. It’s like a game. 2) gas mpg is about 42, but I really haven’t driven to much in gas in the last 7,000 miles. I drive 18,000 miles a year. 3). I have a Chevy Volt too. I like the Volt over the Clarity when it comes to pure EV driving. Floor the Volt in Sport and it will fly off the line ( no gas motor). If you floor the Clarity the gas motor will come on. While the Clarity is faster to 60 mph, I feel the Volt is faster to 40-50 mph. I drive my Volt like a dragster, and the Clarity like an old man. I just hate the gas motor coming on if I press the gas pedal too far in the Clarity. That said the gas motor in the Clarity is a Honda motor. It’s chain driven and port injected. No timing belt changes and no carbon deposit problems like direct injected motors. It’s quiet and most of the time I have to look at the dash to see if the motor is on, because it runs quiet. Interior of the Clarity is so nice. The radio needs more knobs, but the sound is good. The headlamps and daytime running lights are amazing. I like the rims, but there are plastic hub caps over alloy rims. They look nice, but I would rather have alloy only. Also, I would prefer 17” rims instead 18” rims for a better ride. That said the ride is great. The rear suspension is different, in a good way. The battery on the Clarity also can charge in 2.5 hours vs my Volts 4 hours because it will accept more amps. My next car will be pure EV when the battery range exceeds 350 miles. Hope that helps. Oh, don’t pay over $30,000 for a base mode. Then collect your Fed tax credit for $7,500 and State credit ($1,500 California). Mine was $21,000 new. Total steal.

Love my 18 Accord, but Road Departure Mitigation is a little too strict when it comes to tracking lines in the road. For example if there's a fork in the road or if you're getting on or off an exit, the system will kick in and try to steer you in the wrong direction. So I prefer to have it off. Adaptive cruise control is AMAZING though.

The braking mitigation, it's a love hate type of thing for me. I have a honda 2017 civic touring that i use for ridesharing. Safety is the factor i love. Its that extra little bit that has and will save you as its saved me. This feature the braking mitigation has some flaws to it but its worth it when it matters. Twice I've been in traffic only to have traffic pick speed then the car in front suddenly stops and me looking elsewhere like changing lanes for instance. The car stopped us so dam fast. It was probably overkill but I wouldn't of probably made the stop myself given the amount of time I had. Thats 2 times its save my life and passengers. The rest of the package is okay and in ways has its usefulness fortune. The cons however, funny, frustrating, embarrassing, questionable, you name it and the experience can be had with this system. My hope is that the years have smoothed it out a bit more than 2017. One of the worst is the system being used and the car in front switches lanes really fast and triggers the brake mitigation! Everyone in the car looks at you like wtf ?!?! The cars next to you look at you like "you ok dude"?? The one I hate the most is the braking in case you can't tell and the problem i hate the most with its braking is a car will be in the other lane and not yours and the car slams on the brakes u expecting and yeah its not a light brake its that oh shit stop !!! Lastly with the cons, the stop and go in traffic is cool i love it ...its priceless at times, however, its ability to stop smoothly is not a thing ...it at times can gas it when it should be braking only to slam on the brakes resulting in a sudden screeching stop. Meanwhile its all calm and 6 lanes turns to look at you like you drunk ? Its timing when traffic starts to move again lol...I get honked at . People are impatient...so some fine tuning there id say. Then the steering ..I get its an assist but it will be doing the turn and gonna make it but gives up half way into the turn and if you're not ready lol..again its an assist not auto. I'm surprised I have not gotten pulled over for being drunk in it 5he way it drives. It bounces of the lanes left side and right in this wavey style of driving. And cars next to you often get wary of you lol ... Needless to say it's very useful and the safety aspect is great and its a must have . By far the best feature in traffic for me is the right signal camera. The view down the side of my right side to see cars in that lane while keeping my vision forward is unmatched. Its amazing to have and should be in every car . Its awesome.

@xTWISTED_WAYZx 8 ай бұрын
@sean8102 You get spoiled with it. I have a 2023 Santa Fe Limited. It's got the blind spot cam too. However, they musta over thought on this one . Instead of using the big ass dash monitor to show you, they turn the rpms on the cluster into this tiny little video of that side. It's completely useless like that. I have to put my steering wheel position In an uncomfortable position just to see it at all. More or less seeing a car in that spot at that size is dam near impossible. At night, maybe headlights let you know, but nothing like what my honda has. You can't even turn it on manually, either.

The collision mitigation system is scary. I have a new Civic and while driving about 50 mph the other morning, there was obviously a false alarm and the mitigation system applied the brakes so hard the ABS was triggered and I was brought to a crawl in a heart beat. Broad daylight, nothing in front of me at all, and fortunately nobody following me or I would certainly have gotten rear-ended. Nothing in my path, no chipmunks, no leaves or anything in my field of vision, just an empty road. If this is a common occurrence, this system may end up causing as many rear-end collisions as it avoids front-end collisions. Hopefully some hackers find a way to permanently disable it.

I have a 2020 accord sport the damn car did 2x to me. I took the car in an the tech tried to blame the adaptive cruise control. I told him it was not on. So I said shut it off he did. 1 week later the car did it again this time the cruise control was off like the tech set it. So it took him all day and all of a sudden they had to order a control module. The car is new less then a 6mo old what happened to Honda quality. Same thing happened to me today. I was the first car stopped at the metro tracks. No metro was going by but I didn't want to wait in the long line while sitting in the middle of the tracks. When I started slowly accelerating and there was no car directly in front of me, the system made a HARD brake when there was absolutely nothing in front of me. My car jerked and luckily no one rear-ended me. It isn't worth turning this feature on. It is dangerous. What if it happened when I was going much faster? MY GOD!

I really like the Sensing system in my new Sport Touring. However, unless you use your turn signal, Road Departure Mitigation does not play well with forks in the road where your lane can go either left or right. Twice it's nearly caused an accident and I've had to turn it off for my daily commute. (It freaks out at the fork from Hwy 78 / St. Mtn. Park entrance lane, and it doesn't like Spaghetti Junction).

I'm seriously considering a CRV EXL and this video helped me better understand Honda Assist. In regards to the Lane Departure Mitigation - does the system stop trying to turn the steering wheel if the driver manually forces the steering wheel in a different direction than the LDM system? If so, how much does the system "fight" the driver before giving up and allowing the driver to over-ride it?

Tesla's the name in the game with automated driving along with Cadillac. Honda does a pretty sharp job with their LKAS system that I use daily for my commute. It has issues with heavy traffic in the NE where I drive, and three second spacing is a joke to many drivers, but not to my CRV. So I disengage it in traffic, but enjoy it tremendously on open roads. Downside is it sometimes gets confused at bridge piers and exits off the highway. It is not too capable in country roads with twists and turns. The system is excellent for highway use, and will keep safe following distances, keeping safely in the lane. Too bad it can't see potholes.

I just traded in our 2019 Passport EXL....why?....a few reasons, but the biggest was when we were on the highway traveling and out of no where the brakes decide we need to stop and I mean STOP...there was nothing in front of us and thankfully the car behind us was about a 100 yards away. The other thing was it would try to follow tire burnout marks on the road which made no sense at all. The hesitation when starting out drive me nuts.....I wish all of you that own a Honda well. I've owned them since 1977.....I'm not going to say never again, but Kia/Hyundai and Toyota/Lexus will be new ride....Honda, probably not.

I have a 2018 Honda CRV. The automatic breaking with cruise control is amazing, but there's just one issue that needs to be worked out. If you are traveling say 60 and the cars in front are traveling just a little slower, the honda will drive right up to it and brake. So instead of seeing the car in front and just letting up on the gas (like you'd normally do on a freeway), the car will ride up to it and brake. My point is that it chews through break pads and use more gas because it is constantly hitting the gas, brake, gas, brake, etc.. The other thing is that you'll set it for one car length and it's more like 4. So between that and frequent braking people in back are always trying to pass you. But I have to say that this works great in bumper to bumper traffic. I think it should be mandatory in all vehicles. It would reduce back end collisions dramatically.

I have a 2018 Accord, am 78 years old, and use all the features described in this video. There is one thing I find very troublesome about the automatic braking feature. If driving on city streets and the car in front of you decides to make a right turn, the automatic system will brake almost to a stop, until the right turning car gets out of view of the radar. IF you think about it, this makes sense as the car turning right appears closer and closer to you since it is no longer going straight ahead and the radar senses your car closing in on the right turning car. I hope the Honda software people can get a handle on this phenomenon and correct this issue since cars behind you have no idea why you are breaking so hard and if they are not paying close attention may rear end you. I have taken to tapping my brakes or manually disengaging the ACC (Automatic Cruise Control) until I have passed the turning car, then re-engage the ACC. Other than that, this system has saved me at least twice from hitting a vehicle in front of me when I was not paying close attention.

I am loving these functions. Maintaining the constant distance to the car in front of me, stopping and restarting automatically make driving much more relaxed and safe! The long follow distance is very annoying. I am comfortable with 2 car lengths. On the freeway, the long distance might be appropriate, bur medium still feels adequate.

Just purchased a new Honda CRV EX. Please make a video on Honda reverse back up sensors. Unable to find ay information on how this works. I believe it will set up in the existing dash and not sure if the SUV will stop when in reverse to avoid hitting anything after installed.(I don't ever want to hit anything when I back up) It appears there may even be more sensors you can install in the front as well. Asume when all (front and rear) are installed the SUV can park itself? Again does this go thru the existing dash with perhaps a button added where the blank buttons are on the left? Do not want to add any plastic boxes glued to my dash. Thank You

Very cool tutorial. A bit off topic (car model and year) but hoping you can help: we have a new 2019 HR-V and are confused by the LKAS “suspend beep” setting (on vs. off). If we select ON does that mean that the audible beep is now “on” or does that mean that “SUSPEND THE BEEP” is active meaning that the beep alert is actually off ("suspended)? We would like for the beep to be on so there is both a tactile and an audible alert if in fact both can be activated simultaneously . Does that make sense? Thanks!

I wish Henry Ford was still alive and could build me a modern, but simple and reliable car that doesn't cost a fortune. The controls should be simple and not a distraction. The last thing I want it to interface with a touch screen while driving as it forces you to look. I just want a knob to control the fan and a knob to control the heat. It should also have real bumpers that can actually bump without causing expensive damage. I would even enjoy a roll cage and race harness with no air bags. Race drivers do just fine in high speed accidents without airbags. Instead of Henry Ford we have tech nuts who put layers and layers of buggy software in our cars.
@nickn9040
@nickn9040 5 жыл бұрын
The accord has knobs for that. The rest of the buttons are optional. At the end of the day. Your basics that you're used to appear in the same places. If you really hate touch screen infotainment then you can pursue a 2019 Mazda 3. Lastly, the roll cage and eight point harness combo is expensive and generally not completely necessary. The cars are designed to not flip in standard crashes like a T bone or rear end collision.
@DYI
@DYI 5 жыл бұрын
@@nickn9040 Good points. I bet you that a harness would be cheaper than all the airbags now in cars and be more reliable. Definitely easier to inspect! I have had to go to the dealer many times for airbag recalls. Besides detraction I am a bit of a neat freak and the finger prints that end up on a touch screen annoy me:)

2018 CRV-EX owner here. It should be emphatically noted that LKAS is absolutely NOT for hands-free driving! If you take your hands off the wheel for more than a few seconds the car will angrily beep at you and flash a "steering required" warning message. What it DOES do for you is smoothly lead you through curves and take the strain off your arms during long drives. Also, the ACC has 3 distance settings, not 4. That being said, I've never felt safer than I do while driving within my Honda's "radar bubble." ACC works in poor visibility conditions, even the mini-haboob that hit the Panhandle a few days ago. Cross Traffic Monitoring has prevented uncountable idiots from pranging my car in busy parking lots. I'm reasonably sure that the CMBS saved me from an insurance fraudster with disconnected brake lights. I highly recommend this car and its safety features!

I have 2018 EX and I love it. It has issues but once you learn them and how your own input with gas pedal can make the sensing system great in all types of driving scenarios. Long distances are especially nice with well marked lanes. The Honda feature of posted lane speed is not available in this crv so I just use Waze, available in CarPlay, I can always have a posted speed limit and a customized warning if I’m going over 10 miles past the limit. Apple Maps is still horrible in my location.

I have a new Honda civic sedan in the touring trim. Gave the cruise control a try this week. Discovered that the long setting is very long. I ended up setting mine in short. I think the system could use some tweaking because it engages the brakes rather hard when someone pulls into my lane and the system is maintaining the distance. It got confused when a car in the lane to my left went by. The system almost engaged the brakes, but then the car drove far enough away that it was no longer in the system's view. Frankly, it makes me nervous. Is there a way to have the cruise control on without the radar distancing?

I just bought a 2019 Accord Sport and am still getting used to the LKAS. I love it but even on well marked roads in all kinds of conditions, it requires steering about every 10-15 seconds (hands are on the wheel). Once it requires steering assistance, it will almost never start working again until I move the wheel even if I'm on on a straight road right in the middle of the lane for another 45 seconds. Is this normal? If so, I can accept that and just enjoy it but I have a feeling that it should be working a lot better than it is. I am considering taking it into the service department but am almost certain they will just tell me that it's working fine.

Here is my recent experience in my 2018 Honda CR-V EX with the Honda Sensing, in particular the CMBS. While traveling on the freeway at 70mph, very light traffic with no vehicles in front or to the side of me , my vehicle decides to activate the CMBS and slam on the brakes violently and bring me to almost a complete stop. The traffic behind me was forced to panic stop and an accident was avoided. This was a major malfunction that could have caused great damage to others and myself. We do not feel safe driving this vehicle and will not purchase another Honda product. We are long time Honda owners, having owned multiple Accords and Civics since 1988. From what I have researched, this is a known issue with Honda Sensing CMBS and Honda has been unwilling to address the problem. I don't expect the dealer to care or try and help solve this problem.

I ended up just reporting it to NHTSA website. Maybe enough people will complain and they will force honda to do a recal or something. I have been owning hondas since 1997 and still have my 97 accord no issues an my prelude and other honda. Seams like the honda golden years are long gone.
