Applications of right-angle drives include:

Lol mate, took me a minute to figure out what the actual logical function of this apparatus is; and ready? It’s to change the direction of rotation. That thing sliding up and down doesn’t do anything besides link the two wheels together. One wheel spins one direction, causing the second to spin in a direction 90° off the first.

The biggest disadvantage of this system is having many moving parts that cause more friction and lower efficiency and more energy consumption compared to the diagonal/bevel gear system.

The biggest advantage I see, assuming that it is used only for low speeds, is that this can be fabricated from more commonly available parts. Perhaps the goal was repairability for the end user in a time when McMaster-Carr didn't exist to the level it is today.

This machine is actually old, and so gears weren't that common and they broke after awhile so this would be better for that time, and also technically would be more efficient instead of one wheel moving around.

Overly complex, low efficiency, impossible to use at high RPM due to vibrations... The inventor of this thing has a very strong hate towards bevel gears.

Those worked great for what they were intended for, simple too, something a farmer or blacksmith could fix. Bevel gears not so much.

Минус такого агрегата в том что у него идёт поступательное движение которое рано или поздно приведёк износу всех частей и клину шатунов, а ещё нагрузки на него будут не такими большими как на тот же редуктор. Из плюсов только меньшее количество часов необходимое для изготовления такой штуки.

Да, но это передача 19 века. Тогда не было достаточно точных станков, что б сделать шестерню. Потому исходили из простоты производства на тот момент

@@pasha5760, заботочилтные станки тогда были и зубчатые колёса тем более. Этот редуктор сделан именно на станках, но старались максимально сэкономить

Экономия сомнительная: нужно изготовить шатун достаточно точно, очевидно - из литой заготовки, либо там конячие зазоры, что приведёт к пониженному КПД и ускоренному износу. Даже беззубые штырьковые шестерни, которые в 10 раз дешевле этого дрыгадана, дадут большее КПД и меньший износ. Да ещё + эту хренотень как смазывать непонятно, все же открыто. Тут варианта, на мой взгляд, два: или это экзотика ради того, чтобы что-то изобрести, либо к этому шатуну должна быть нагрузка, что-то типа помпы.
