Developers dont seem to understand that if the microtransactions were very cheap, say a dollar per character skin and a $1.50 for a weapon skin pack, I would be willing to buy them. A lot of them most likely. Trying to sell me character skins for $10 means Ill never purchase a single microtransaction.

Great vid! This really put everything into perspective. So essentially in Gears of war 3 u could pay $11.40 (adjusted inflation price) for 13 items. 5 map s, 4 characters, 3 weapon skin sets, and a campaign. While rn in Greed 5 u can pay $8 for 1 item which is a boltok execution that last 5 seconds. So lets hypothetically say that equipping a skin/character/map could only be done once, therefore for RAAM's Shadow, if u play Koth and the matchs only lasted 15mins (which is extremely generous) u would have to play 9 matches (5 for the maps and 4 for the characters) to use up the characters/maps and lets also hypothetically say u manage to pick up every weapon with each skin during that time. This equals 2hrs and 15mins plus the 3hr campaign all together equals 5hrs and 15mins of content for $11.40 compared to $8 of content for 5secs. It's actually worse if u apply reallity to this equation since realistically we probably got days of use out of RAAM's Shadow between playing the campaign again for the fun of it or for harder difficulties, and we definitely played with the characters and maps more than once. In Greed 5 the Boltok is only on like 3 maps, no characters spawn with it in horde, and given the mechanics of escape's venom it would rarely be used so you'd probably get 15mins out of it for the lifetime of Greed 5 compared to multitudes of days in Gears of War 3. I'd also like to add that ive been playing since Gears of War so im not a hater and I cant wait to see people actually defend the Coalition after everything thats been stated👍

Gears 5 could have been my favorite game of 2019 so easily. I want to love this game so badly. The campaign is -in my opinion- the second best in the franchise, just after Gears 2. The visuals and animations are some of the absolute best I’ve ever seen in a game. And the gameplay itself just feels so right to me... But nothing has gone smoothly outside of that. The game is WEEKS old now and is still in piss-poor shape; from matchmaking issues to campaign achievements still not unlocking, and everything in between. Every single day since launch has been just one more issue after another... I could forgive ALL of it, if the game just had compelling rewards. But it doesn’t. Re-Ups get you desert weapon skins (BLUE RARITY SKINS), and the tour of duty gets you a bombardment of emotes and bloodsprays until the FINAL RANK - which offers the ONLY GOOD COSMETIC REWARD IN THE WHOLE GAME! The coalition has lost the respect of a life-long fan this year. Gears 5 went from my most hyped game of 2019, to the most disappointing game of the generation for me. Thank you, Coalition, for ruining your franchise and ostracizing your once-loyal fan base.

Even though GoW4 got better with unlocking stuff and wasn’t my cup of tea, getting the things I wanted weren’t hard. In GoW3 characters and weapon skins were unlocked via campaign, leveling up, or in my case some others playing the beta and obtaining all the pre order characters such as Mech Baird, Adam Fenix or SGE. Like I can’t even play Clayton or Baird in Gears 5 who had secondary or side main character roles. Like what is that?? At this point games are so bad I’m going to have more hours playing KZbin then new games the past 3 years.

What they did to HORDE is criminal. In G4 it was incredible and my favorite game mode in any game I have ever played. In G5 it is absolute trash. The hero system is awful and most of the ultimates are useless and underwhelming. I could not be more disappointed. Progression is overly grindy and slow. The difficulty and modifier system is crap and needs to be de-coupled. The maps are lame and so damn small. Classes are ambiguous and muddled. There isn't much nice to say about it.

I uninstalled the game on Xbox after I completed the campaign. Didn’t even try horde or anything. What turned me off was the second half of the campaign and the ending. It had the best mission in terms of lore and then went downhill from the new haven mission and then did the borderlands 3 fake ending for real unironically. Thank god I didn’t have to pay for this I just used game pass.

Thank you for calling this out and making a video on it. This is probably the biggest compliant people have for Gears 5. The fact that the core gameplay has to stay close to him is understandable, but in that case you need to have something to keep people playing. They have nothing to keep the gamer enticed. The rewards are absolute garbage. Think there's about 200 hundred combined playable characters in Gears 4 MP, and here TC is acting like it's this impossible obstacle to make the same thing happen in Gears 5.

For me, Gears 3 was the epitome of character customization, even without the DLC, you had plenty of versus characters (both cogs and Locust) to choose from and you could get all the weapons skins for like 10 bucks

You made some really good points with the garbage microtransactions and versus roster. But you seem like your one of those consumed with nostalgia and can’t let the trilogy go. How many times are we really gonna do “brothers to the end”? It’s getting stale and stagnant, this story mode is one of the best and has the best character development with the main characters but old schoolers are blinded by the trilogy and don’t take the new game for what it is. Has one of the best gameplay and mechanics if not the best. The maps are trash and the Coalition are greedy money whores but the game is a great game, this is just my opinion though. The coalition is the big problem and they need to fix up before they lose all their hardcore fans cause that’s what keeping the game alive.

I still firmly think if a new studio takes over they should make the games seem as though it's a direct continuation, they don't need to take 'their own spin' on the games. But like I said before I didn't like the story, but it seems like many have as well. Enjoyment of the games story is subjective, so subjectively I didn't enjoy it. However the biggest pressing issue is this games store and microtransactions at the moment

honestly i do prefer the tour of duty compared to the loot boxes as i completed it without spending any money, yes i know u can purchase daily challenges but still it shows i put in the effort and grind when people see me with the team rock skins rather than showing i got lucky with a loot box. but the store and iron prices are things i can not defend. it’s disgusting how much they’re charging for this shit. the prices either need to be drastically reduced or make a way for players to earn everything sold in the store through gameplay or at least iron through gameplay apart from the tour of duty. and the fact that there are characters from the campaign not playable for multiplayer SUCKS. i want my carmine thanks tc. anyways good video, i’m happy to see more of the community speaking out against this crap and i thank u for that

Yup I think the actual TOD is good in theory but they need a lot better rewards, need to allow regular XP to level it up too, make the store prices $2-5 and people might actually buy some, as well as allow players to earn them through gameplay!

Star Citizen's business model with those expensive concept ships actually feels less predatory and more consumer friendly than all these other mainstream micro transactions. I really like your take on this game. I just cant believe how disappointing this game is. Literally 10 dollars for an emote saying "thanks". And that horde mode my god wtf happened. I wish they would have multiple horde lobbies such as gears 2 classic horde, horde 2.0, horde 3.0 and finally this crappy horde. One of the things I look forward to the most in every gears game are the weapon executions. You can imagine my surprise when I seen the same weapon execution for multiple weapons over and over and over and the NEW ones locked behind pay walls along with things like gestures to tell your team to group up, push, and defend ... If I want to tell my trash team to defend I need to spend 5$.

As if the Gears fanbase and success throughout the years is due to content and things that were never in the game(s) that created the fanbase/success in the first place.
