Technically Judgement happened about a year later, but Epic included the chainsaw for gameplay reasons (according to Cliff and Rod, among other devs), and claimed it was an E-Day game at times because it was set so close. The Kilo Squad journal full of art and Baird stuff even ties into the 1-year-AED timeline, by picking up where Karen Traviss left Baird and Cole in some book flashbacks. Epic also made the same mistake with RAAM's Shadow, which is set 9 or 10 years after E-Day, right before the Fall of Ephyra (where Karen Traviss made retcons, like making Jace part of Marcus' squad, with Traviss being a solid adaption novelist but admitting she never researches canon beyond what the owners give her, and never reads other authors, and only watched some devs play Gears 1-3). Epic had no excuses for claiming RAAM's Shadow was an E-Day game with chainsaws. Official timelines had to be cleaned up by TC, who now have the former fan Wiki admin (an awesome guy) as keeper of the story bible, and head of lore and content.

@@offworlder1 I just regret thinking Joveus was stupid and wrong for so many years! It wasn't his fault that the canon was in flux at first, and Epic went an entirely different direction than the earliest promo materials claimed for the Locust.

Still remember how a lot of fans did not collect the stuff in GOW 2 that even hinted at what Gears 5 finally revealed. We called it back in 2009, and he made a highly detailed write up being a lot more dedicated then most. He earned the status and title of lore master, might even go see if he is back on the forum chatting after this like he did with Gears of War 4 announcement/reveal. Maybe we will talk shop again and speculate about what E-Day will show.
