SPOILER *******The swarm are the locust/ when all the locust were buried in the mass graves, they were cacooned, and changing, this is what connects the intro scene where Kait is talking about the butterfly. After all the years of being cacooned, the older locust (scions) broke free and started to make a new army, by taking people (outsiders and “missing cog”) amd putting them in the new pods seen in the campaign. Where then they turn into juvies, then devolope into drones. They then grow and change into the new army of the locust, like a hybrid, so the swarm are the locust. For sure, just re birthed, “locust 2.0” NOW dealing with Kait and Reyna , the bigger Scion, the one reyna cit the hand off of. The reason they wanted. Kaits mother is because my a very supportive theory that Reyna is the daughter of queen Myra. Because at the end of the game, Reyna gives Kait a necklace that was very important to her, and on the back of that necklace was the locust emblem, so it is strongly shown that Reyna is the daughter of queen Myra, meaning Kait is the grandaughter. Now with that being siad that means possibly in the next launch that swarm are going to be coming after Kait because they are trying to make a new queen like they tried to do with Reyna. I think a detailed you missed is that the Locust are the offspring of the Sires. Think of it as like mutation and evolution. The Sires were already mutated beyond recognition of them even being human, so they ended up creating offspring which had a more humanoid shape thus giving said offspring the ability to move and act like humans, and thus the Locus Horde was created.

This is a little bit wrong with some facts, the scion in gears 4 was not a king at all, he was literally just a scion commander, the scions are basically hatched versions of the locust, the locust were hardened into a chrysalis after the imulsion counter measure in gears 3, they then later hatched over the past 25 years slowly but surely and the scions are somehow now creating juries and technically none human based "pure locust" which we are seeing as the swarm. If you look up the word scion it's basically a genetic successor of a lesser family tree, think of it as the locusts were caterpillars and then since gears 3 they have been in a chrysalis, then hatched out as a butterfly/scion. The yellow crystals on their backs and whatnot is the crystallised lambent cells that infected the locusts bodies in gears 3. They are neither dead nor lambert because the imulsion remains on them but not in them and is hardened like an amber stone rather than sap. I'll be looking to do lore videos myself as a lot of people seem to be getting the origins of all of gears wrong with no facts and bad theories to back them up, everything in gears has been 100% confirmed, you just need to find all of the facts

Ahh i see what you said now, the massive swarm monster at the end being the king, as you mentioned it right after talking about the scions I thought you were referring to that, oh and just to help you with the lore, the sires aren't a result of humans and imulsion mixed together, they are a result of humans and rock shrews. It's an indigenous creature that lived in the hollow that Marcus's mother was studying, a lot of scientists thought they were invulnerable to the effects of imulsion such as rust lung as they lived underground near the stuff for ages and had no effects... or so they thought, until Marcus's mother started studying them and dissected one and seen it had mutated an extra pair of legs.

They thought using their cells that were immune to imulsion sickness with humans would make a greater being that had an immunity to working with imulsion, after better inspection she found out they were wrong and that in fact the shrews weren't immune, which is the reason the sires/locust weren't immune to the pathogen after all...

from what the Wiki tells me, Epic had ideas for the Swarm in their original plan for Gears 4, but they obviously went on to financially better pastures with Fortnite. obviously, The Coalition took the concept and ran with it, like with 343 turning Cortana evil in Halo 5. Bungie was gonna do that back in Combat Evolved, but obviously, they didn't go through with it.
