Hope you guys enjoy this new series! Interestingly enough it was me, Evo Ben, who made this one, even though it seems absolutely like something Subaru Ben would make. Let us know what performance platform we should cover in the next episode of The Aftermarket, and if you need to do any shopping, use code: AFTERMARKET at bit.ly/gears_aftermarket to get 25% for all your Advance shopping for the next 2 weeks.

Bought my 06 STI brand new in Feb 06. Never modified at all, just flipped 103000 miles. I've done a slew of maintenance and items that have gone bad with age but drivetrain and such have never skipped a beat. Just when I think about modifying it I realize how much I enjoy the reliability and fun that the car gives me in it's stock form, and how much money I've saved by not going the modified route. I love seeing all the modified ones though when done correctly.

What other Japanese turbo car still lives up to the hype of the 90s? The Mk V Supra is great, but Toyota is so departed from providing a driver's car that BMW had to make it for them. GTR came back in amazing form, but quickly spiraled off in price into 6 figure unobtainium. Beyond those basic flaws, we have the lack of manual transmission option, vague electronic assist steering, and all the other electronic assists that take away feeling and precise control.

I build Subaru engines and transmissions for a living, I can always tell when someone is full of fluff. I'm in my mid 50's and just bought a diesel 2011 forester (manual) with 90k miles on. I love it. Not going for any mods apart from starting the wheels up and a new set of tyres before winter arrives. With the old ej20t.. I remember a big problem was the in-line fuel rails. The last cylinder in the line would always get minutely less fuel than the rest but over time it made a difference to the heat etc in that cylinder. Swapping to parallel fuel rails was a good preventative measure to ring land failure in that last cylinder. I’m not sure if newer ej255 / 57s still run single fuel rails but it’s worth changing to parallel setup.

I love my 02 WRX Bugeye Wagon with factory leather.... just rebuilt her to factory OEM spec. As she made it 170K no problems, all stock powertrain, until the radiator drain petcock failed and she cooked headed down the freeway. So she just got a heart reconstruction!!! Now that her internals are all completely fresh, I will get her smogged (CA sucks) and then likely open up the exhaust and see how she does.

What's not attainable about a older subaru? A good decent 06-10 wrx sti can be had for 5-15k. While a 25 year old Nissan pos will cost cost over 5k. Then you still might have to throw in another 5-10k fixing it up. So it will run some what dependable.

Great series! People often don't believe that you should have a built FA motor at that hp and tq level. The rod shape and the very high compression ratio greatly increase the importance of a built engine. Ps I like that clair de lune

You should try the RVS triboceramic coating. I've used it successfully for years. It restores engine compression and reduces friction by coating all metal to metal friction surfaces with a ceramic compound while you drive the car normally. I've fixed automatic gearboxes and noisy power steering pumps with it... I've treated 5 of my petrol and diesel powered Mercedeses, one Jeep (Commander CRD) and my 06 Forester XT with it.

Had a 2014 hatch I bought at 23k miles, added a full catless exhaust Cobb intake and a protune for 315 whp and 315 ft lb tq, at 34k miles motor blew. Theres a reason Subaru had a lawsuit against them for the ringlands. I loved that car too, favorite one ive had. Couldnt trust it after that motor blew tho and called it quits on the Subis

@@juanarroyo465 Nothing that i know of, ive used T6 in my motorcycles and ATVs for years. When i bought a 04FXT that was my go to oil, i hit 230k abusing that poor EJ. i finally suffered ringland failure one night having way to much fun. when i tore the block down, i was impressed at how much it protected the internals form wear and tear, they looked perfect. Since its meant to be used in a turbo diesel engine,(pretty demanding conditions for oil) it does its job very well in N/A and turbo gasoline engines, plus its cheap.

Very informative guys. Just bought 2 Subaru Legacy Gt Limited a month ago. The 2000 LGT which i LOVE. 220,000 AMAZING! The other is 2009 LGT with 230,000 and hoping the engine didn't seize. Dont know yet haven't had it diagnosed yet. Went into limp mode 2 miles from where I bought it. Was smoking after it shut off. I have hope for it tho. Thanks for the info.
