@@sangerzonnvolt6712 not really.. most road car people wont bother with rear wing and whats more of a LSD... But this mr2 destined to be track car fron the beginning... They should have put the rear wing and front splitter while they were sending the car for widebodykit job to make things easier and simpler... While installing LSD for track use definately a must... Even in most 1make series racing, all cars running LSD for corner exit traction and stability at speed Suggested mods for track car: 1-power 2-tyre 3-suspension 4-brakes 5-LSD 6-bigger final drive (for faster acceleration and using all 6speed ratio available) 7-aero (In no particular order) is a must for a track racing car no matter what championship or event one planning to enter... *Unless the event didnt allow certain upgrades (usually in 1make series) If one planning to be competetive regardless...unless sunday casual driver planning to drive at the back of the pack.. 😂

Substitute the wood splitter for a similar thickness extruded PVC sheet its lighter and more forgiving. It can also be heated and bent into a shape so you can add some up swoops in the trailing edge of the splitter for more aero efficiency. Weight savings can be had by routing out pockets that go about 1/2 way deep from the top behind the bumper.

I think you should also take a bit of inspiration from the Techno Pro Spirit MR-S that appeared a few times on Hot Version in Japan. That little monster with just a basic 2ZZ swap, small tires, and stock brakes absolutely PUNISHED the competition on the Gunsai touge and really went to work at Tsukuba as well. Made Tsuchiya's personal super-tuned hachiroku look like a bucket of bolts. Along with Jordan Cox's Civic at Bathurst, the Spirit MR-S is probably the greatest David v Goliath car of the last decade. And, I'm sure the guy who built it knows a thing or two about making those cars turn.
@mitchellsteindler Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good driver, nothing more. Not sure what inspiration can be taken from that.
@JETZcorp Жыл бұрын
@mitchellsteindler They use the same 3 drivers for every car on that show. When you're laying enormous, embarrassing gaps on Nob Taniguchi and Keiichi Tsuchiya Himself, it's not just the driver. The car is in the top-5 fastest sector times on the Gunsai touge, faster than any tuned GT-R, BMW, or Porsche GT3 that's been tested. It just has nutty cornering speed and superb balance.
@mitchellsteindler Жыл бұрын
@JETZcorp so a 200 hp, otherwise stock mr2 is faster than a gt3
@JETZcorp Жыл бұрын
@mitchellsteindler Well first of all, it's definitely not "otherwise stock". It's a widebody car with custom suspenson and aero. But, on the Gunsai touge first sector, yes it set a better time than a 991 GT3. That's a ridiculously tight, narrow, bumpy course that represents a typical Japanese mountain pass (touge). It's almost as tight as an autocross, but with even fewer straight sections. On the Nürburgring, it would obviously get obliterated.

All the "I told you so" aside we're glad it's starting to come together, even if turning your car into like everybody else's wasn't the plan. Process is being made! Also I see where you were trying to come from. It's the Spoon Logic of less is more aero wise. And balance and power is where it's tuned from and maybe you'll get there one day on that chassis but this is the easiest way until you can get there!
@TypeVertigo Жыл бұрын
From where I'm standing, it was the adding of ballast and where it was located (pretty much passenger footwell area) that cemented the adding of rear aero being the solution. It wasn't as apparent at the beginning that the added weight was, as Coby says, lifting the rear tires more than the fronts. The "I told you so's" are right, but arriving to this solution with better understanding is part of why it's more fulfilling and engaging to watch. Kind of a "House MD" approach, if you will.

Love the videos and glad to see your making progress. Definitely think you would benefit from endplates on that front splitter as everyone knows how these make rear wings more efficient the same is true with front splitters too. Trapping any air mass flowing across the edge of splitter before it spills off the end raises its pressure, thus provide downforce

Awesome!! Wish my spyder had an lsd, I do occasionally spin the rear a little at low speeds but that’s mostly because of the turbo spinning up which does add a little rear weight even though my exhaust out the turbo is about 2 feet long vs the spiral snake with the massive muffler that it used to have so I wouldn’t say its a lot heavier. I should also mention i run 17x9 wheels and eventually way to change the rear to 17x10. Also i was one of the ones who said big wing, less power, less weight go check it.

Although is not mentioned during the track test, I think raising the rear might have made quite a bit of a difference in correcting the rear end weirdness and it was not just the diff. These cars use MacPherson strut in the rear, right? Is very easy to get to horrible roll center and kinematics when lowering a MacPherson.
@TypeVertigo Жыл бұрын
Good points. There are certainly examples of cars with MacPherson struts that actually fare worse with lowered ride height because the geometry is thrown out of whack and not even roll center adjusters will correct it to a sufficient degree. The GD-chassis Honda Fit/Jazz is one of them as per Australia's Honed Motorsport - they have a great tech breakdown of this on their Facebook page.
