Drifting is my all time favorite Motorsport. I try and spectate at every event I can. Cheapest way to get into drifting is just start with sim racing, it’s surprising how much assetto corsa can teach you

Getting a 150HP car with lowering springs and a welded diff is the best way to learn, Reliable cars and seat time are most important If you cant drift a bone stock 150HP car, you cant drift a fully set up 1200HP car either
@rubbertoe.3 жыл бұрын
@@fuckngreat8955 considering I'm 18, in college, I definitely don't have the funds for an actual drift car. My car right now is a RWD manual Lexus IS250. But I need to to stay reliable. I've taken it to a winter track day for snow drifting, since it's low tire wear and not too hard on the car. Sim racing helped me insanely as I was fully comfortable with drifting it there, like I've been doing it for years. I started playing Assetto when I was 14 and had a wheel since I was 8. Lots of digital seat time can definitely help irl
@fuckngreat89553 жыл бұрын
@@rubbertoe. it can help ALOT for sure, especially with Sim racing setups that use real car steering wheels and clutch pedals+steering wheels with the correct amount of feedback, Im 18 too, and going back to why Low power drifting is the best to learn, I have a drift daily (E46 sedan) with a good clutch because OEM BMW sucks for drifting, lowering springs, a welded diff and a ZF trans which is pretty much bulletproof, and drifting that thing that barely makes 150WHP made it so i can slide almost all of my friends cars with a welded diff, while people that started drifting a 500WHP car, really struggle with my car because they simply dont have the knowledge how to do the hard initiations you have to do in a slow car
@rubbertoe.3 жыл бұрын
@@fuckngreat8955 totally agree. Like you said before, if you can't drift a 150whp car, a 500hp one won't do you any better either.

That part about ride along is resonating with me extremely hard. My first car was fwd, bcz I was never into drifting and I thought it wouldn't make much difference. After that one time I got to sit on a passenger seat, while going sideways on a streeto, my entire take on car community changed. It became a regular habit, that whenever it rains, I'm going to hotspots and most of my friends right now are from these exact places, heck, I was even able to get a job from meeting people there, and it feels great to be part of these places

Drifting got sorta going in my area. I built a budget 350z and was getting into it. Then they closed the skid pad for whatever reason...sucked for me. Sold my car on ebay. Loved it. We do have 2 grip tracks so I thought about making a grip build to play with. But it's so cost prohibited. I could get drift tires from my local tire shop for 10 to 20 dollars each (used scrubs to just burn off) plus other costs.

Any sports always begins and ends with grassroots and it is the core value of any sports because it revolves around having fun, creating friends for life and doing it all on a low budget, the atmosphere is how it should be and the hassles are at a minimum,the moment you hear professional in sports, your hobby goes out the window and it becomes a job because you have sponsors who have demands, who have invested money in you so they can be in the spotlight to sell their products, your personal interest become pleasing these sponsors, their schedule becomes your schedule, and those fun weekends without drama and problems spending time with your friends become faded memories of the past, at that point you realise you are becoming a adult and you return to the things that gave real meaning to your life and that is why pro's become ex-pro's returning to spend time with their old friends at grassroots events and some become grassroots instructors inspiring the younger generations amen...loved this video btw.✌️

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I am not sure where to turn. I want to learn how to drift. Just for myself to learn and have some fun and maybe meet some new like-minded friends. Do they do these schools here in Michigan? Or somewhere nearby within driving distance? I have a Volvo 240 which is probably grossly inadequate for drifting, but I want to turbo the car and replace the camshaft with a better grind and have fun learning.
