can someone explain to me what the middle switches do? the omni the cardior ect
@DavidFong214 жыл бұрын
Sure - that switch changes the sensitivity pattern of the mic. Cardioid means you should only record from one side and the other directions will be quieter. Bidirectional means you can record on that side or opposite and it should sound roughly the same. Omnidirectional means you can record from any direction. You’d want to use cardioid if you want to minimize reflections or room sounds like AC, fridge, etc. You’d want to use omnidirectional if you’re trying to pick up the room sound/reverb in a nice space. Hope this helps!

As David said it is a way to indicate the sensitivity or loundness of a mic from different angles. This is often presented as an image. So the cardioid is most sensitive at the front, somewhat sensitive on the sides and least sensitive at the back. When this is presented as an image it looks a bit like an up side down heart emoji , hence the cardioid (cardiac) name. Figure of eight pattern most sensitive front and back least sensitive on the sides, and I sure you can guess the image they use to represent that. There is a little bit more to it than that, but that is the basic idea.
