In 1959 I took a "touch typing" enrichment course in summer school. My grandmother gave me a circa 1940's Remington typewriter. I typed a letter to Mack Trucks asking for photos. I still have their gracious reply and photos. I still love everything truck.

The gold bulldog wasn't introduced until 1967 when the Maxidyne engine/transmission was introduced. My Dad drove one of the first F model cabovers sold by Northeast Mack in Duluth MN

Your right. I started in Mack’s workshop 1967 and still run Mack’s now. The gold Bulldog represents a high torque Maxidyne engine and the silver Bulldog represents a high horsepower Thermodyne engine. For awhile the engines were colour matched to the individual emblems, until they discovered the paint pigments were harmful. Paint was changed to water based which at the time couldn’t incorporate gold or silver pigments

I too remember the gold bulldog being introduced in 1967 with the high torque rise Maxidyne engine coupled to just a FIVE speed transmission. And the engine also was gold. And I think the video is incorrect about the silver bulldog representing an engine not built by Mack. I know back some years ago you could order a Cummins or Detroit in certain models but in recent years the sliver bulldog means the transmission and/or the rears are not Mack. Gold bulldog and it's Mack engine/tranny/rears. I'm retired now but have never driven the late model Macks. B61, DM, R, RS, CH before 2010. Two stick, 5 speed 1 stick, 1 stick 5 speed with high/low and reverse switch and the last CH had an Allison automatic and a silver dog. Remember when the 44,000 pound and up axle hubs were not flat but cone shaped? I think the axle was a bit longer than the flat hub and was splined on the hub end too inside the cone. Those axles were tough with a camel back.

I'm 58 And been in the industry of trucking for 22 years I always love a Mack truck I have been in the chemical business for 17 years and The owner of our company had mack and I've been a Mack man ever since The size and the dimensions is perfect to work around in these metropolitan cities including these chemical plants Long Live The MACK Trucks 💯😎👍

I work for a company in Australia that routinely tows quads full of iron ore. Kenworth survive. Mack do not. They are Volvo. They can't handle the punishment and it's a shame. Real Macks used to be awesome.

Any truck that can handle all the punishment on logging trails is a quality that will handle others, very rare to see Mack on logging work, it's mainly Kenworth.

Volvo sure didn’t do the Mack name any justice. A lot of the old all steel Bulldogs(B models, DM’s and R’s) are still running the roads today.

I've been a great fan of old Macks for decades. See my emoji ... I have a tattoo of the original patent drawing shiwn around 4:40 on my forearm. The older R models and D/DM are a great rig. I drove a couple CH models from approximately 2000, 01. Tough trucks.

Love the Bulldog especially their 'R-700' and Superliner models with the thumping V8, last of the Proper Macks, soo cool, as for the later models I would not touch with a barge pole, too much plastic and geek boxes load to go wrong very un Bulldog.

Before to be bought by Renault, Mack has been the owner in France of Camions Bernard until 1967. The engine END 711 Thermodyne was fitted on the last Bernard, this Motor gived power and reliability to this make of trucks after use a Gardner engine developped before the WW II. This engine began with 105 hp to finish with 180 hp . For a lot of french haulers Mack is still synonyme of quality.

Bulldog has an amazing history. These are the trucks that make out world. The LRs are our garbage trucks and mixers, the Granites are the dump trucks and the DOT we can't have roads without them, The Pinnacle does the heavy lifting and moves the machinery, and the Anthem delivers the loads. That's why MACK is the best American Built American Made Built Like A Mack!

All Mack's in North America are built in only 2 factories. The Pennsylvania factory builds all class 8 trucks. They would love to build more,but they don't have the capacity. The company I work for just bought a New MD6 ,their new little truck. From the order,to delivery took a year. So there's a demand.

A Mack Dealer himself told me one time, that Mack is good for about 5 years, and then the trouble starts with rust and the cab mounts start going and the your Trans is shifted to the side and then your clutch goes. They aren't worth the money anymore.

If you listened to the video. For many decades, Mack was owned by other companies. Renault, for instance. Yes,their owned by Volvo. Not related to the cars,their run by a Chinese company now. Really the only thing in the new trucks are engines, the automated transmission, and electronics. Most everything else is not shared. The sheet metal is totally different, along with the look in general. Plus you can still spec a heavy Mack truck,with the Camelback suspension and their own specific rear ends. I'm fine with the Volvo partnership.

The Mack V8s from the 60s to their end with Mack were a collaboration with European builder Scania. While Scania has made changes since, they still have that special sound.
