OMG, the first two minutes I couldn't get a look at the damned box because you wouldn't hold it still LOL. My band got one of the new ones with phantom power (I didn't realize this was an option until later), and it works great in conjunction with our PA. It's so great being able to get a DI from ANY amp, including vintage amps, that have no DI and that you otherwise have to mic!!

The mic positioning in this demo is not optimal, so the JDX wins by a mile. The mic and JDX could be much closer in sound. If you take into account all the mic bleed you now don't have to deal with live, this thing is incredible. Radial wins again. This video is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

You need to use a speaker cable because it is carrying the same high current from the amp to the driver. The xlr cable to the desk is only carrying a normal low current signal. I use the jdx in conjunction with an emulated line out from the amp. The result is really rich to my ears. sound engineers appreciate the fact that the signal is the same every time and there is no bleed from other on-stage sounds.

I get the feeling a lot of people got used to the tone of SM57's and don't use it as a benchmark but as a goal tonewise. You have to be honest that you can often hear that a tech used an SM57, because of the distinct frequency response. If the aim is to get 'the sound as if you're next to your cab' (which is my goal) SM57's fail horribly (especially with amps that have low end detail). I have to admit that I'm one of those people that doesn't like SM57's, so I might be biased. To me the JDX wins tonally and with it's practicality, but it's hard to judge when you haven't hear the cab in person. I like the balanced and fuller tone and the low end detail (that's almost impossible to mic). Plus, I just have to stick it to the back of my cab and plug it in without too much soundchecking (which give me time to persuade the tech into actually letting me hear myself on the monitors xD ). I'll be picking up one of these!

Can you use the signal that goes to the mixer to an audio interface?

Lmao at the people who can't hear how much better the JDX sounds, maybe through speakers it sounds the same but with nice studio headphones holy crap you get such a better low end, to each their own though.

I don't think a comparison between this and a 57 is the correct comparison to make. A cab loaded with different speakers, each mic'd by 57s aren't going to sound the same either, so its really comes down to cab emulation. I have 2 old mesa boogies, each with different speakers and construction, and one sounds a lot warmer than the other and each does something better than the other. So, the only question I ask is, does this box sound good or not? Is it adequate to the task? Seems like it.

Can this be used via the line-out and line-in of an integrated/all-in-one amp?

Does it work with all impedances, 4-8-16 Ohms ? Is it indifferent to impedances?

Seems to be better than the H&K Red Box I been using already. Just cut guitars on our new album using the X-Amp Re-amper. Fucking KILLER for getting that perfect fully custom tailored tone on your tracks.

have you used this as simple DI. Chain like this: Bass->this DI->House mixer? Thanks!

i have a modified redbox pro that i think sounds very similar to this... however the main thing that is a hassle is why oh why does this need power? redbox is passive. mic's are usually passive. how is this more convenient to setup if you need an extra power point?

for the 2, 1/4 wires do you use leads or speaker cables ?

So how does it sound when you use effects pedals during a studio recording?

Can you tell me if I can record using an amp(Tiny terror) through this amp DI(Radial Jdx), What I want is no have to use a cabinet and record directly to my mixer from my tiny terror and then use an impulse.

Maybe kind of petty, but it was driving me crazy that he kept calling this DI Box a pedal. It's not a pedal. Otherwise, thanks for the demo.

@rafaelcis Yes, you can. Conveniently enough there's an actual video of someone doing that here (youtube).

they basically sound nothing alike. 57 sounds way better to me.

1. It's not a PEDAL 2. You don't have to be ON TOUR ...any live show would benefit. These things make this review sound so amataur. ...and for all you saying this DI doesn't sound like a badly placed sm57, like the vid ...just scoop out the mids and it would have sounded pretty close.
