Donkey Kong You missed the point. Geb was a world record holder at 5,000, 10,000, and 42,000 (26.2 miles) yet it takes the premier miler in the world at that time a world indoor record to beat him in a ONE MILE RACE. Does that confuse you?

yes but hicham didnt run 5000M as often as gebreselassie. hicham focused on 1500m. if hicham had focused more on 5000m his PB would have better (than 12.50). but combining 1500 and 5000m is difficult. so hicham did the right thing to focus on 1500m.

@SpecialKrunningman True, that is impressive, but this is only indoors. Outdoors his personal best is slower than his indoor best! That hardly proves Geb was better; Hicham ran 7:23 on his first 3000m and 12:50 on his first 5000 (at age 28; Haile's best at that age was 12:57). And you also forgot to consider that the way Hicham has run has dragged people to fast times: 6 of the top 10 have set their personal bests at 1500m in 2nd place finishes behind El G, not to mention Noah Ngeny's mile PB.

Bekele's credentials have surpassed Geb's, making him the best long distance runner, but Geb's attitude, his inspirational story, his heart and all the records he set, Geb is the greatest long distance runner. Who cares? They're both unbelievable athletes, and so is Hicham el Guerrouj.

He is the best miler......far from being the best runner. Aouita, geb have far better range. Hell I would even throw Webb in there with 1.43 speed, 3.46 mile snd 27.34. Best miler but not best runner. Distance range creates that

Bekele is the greatest ever. Still has WR at both 5000 and 10,000 and #2 all time in Marathon with 2:03:02. And he has a three Olympic gold medals. And he won world cross country ... both short AND long races (back to back days) SIX times each! El Guerrouj did beat him at the 5000 in Athens, although it wasn't a fast race .... just tactical with a kick at the end favouring the 1500m runner ... not a true 5000 race. Geb was the greatest of his time at all distances. All three are so amazing ... all favourites of mine throughout their careers.

@YiftertheShifter1 theres only one way to show which one is better and that proof will never be shown because of the fact that el g is retired. the way u wud prove it is by putting them in a race at 5000 meters. this is because haile being best suited in the 10000 and guerrouj in the 1500 or mile or 3000 it wud be of equal fairness. but the favorite wud be haile on account on his former world record of 5000 meters and 12:39.36

So ein schlechter Kommentator!!! 1. Hicham war schon bekannt genug um seinen Namen "Hischam" auszusprechen. Der Stadionsprechen hat das nämlich auch gemacht. 2. Er hat im ersten Teil nur über Haile Gebreselassie gesprochen, obwohl er gar kein Favorit war und obwohl seine Zeiten über 1500m weit zurück liegen hinter denen der El G. Und 3. erzählt er von irgendwelchen Spannungen zwischen Athleten aus Afrika und Nordafrika, wovon kein Mensch der Welt weiß, ausser er.

Coe held world records @ 800, 1000, 1500 and Mile all at the same time. He also won Olympic Gold @ 1500 @ 2 different Olympics. He was faster than ElG over 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1000 and this is a guy who ran around 40 years ago when the tracks were much slower. Whenever the GOAT is mentioned Coe has to be considered!!!
