I still really like this knife I just have to close her nicely. I still was not expecting that to happen. It kinda threw me off a little bit and got me kinda flustered. 4.5 out of 5 stars just because of that issue though. Thanks man👍

Thanks for the video Justin. I've had my eye on this one for a little while. Very disappointing about that rolled edge, but like you said, shouldn't be to tough to fix. Especially since 1095 is known for it's ease of field sharpening.

I got the roll right out and put a new mirror edge on it. I'm actually in the works of a trade for a Spyderco Roadie. She's still a great knife and is ment to be a user for sure. Thanks Jay👍

I was pumped when David asked me if i wanted a patch. I got the roll out of the blade after the review. Just used a honing rod so i didn't remove any metal. It did kinda bum me out when it happened but now i know to close it gently. I'll be rapping to the beat of my ZT flipping lol. Still love this knife just bummed about that issue. Thanks Jack👍

I would definitely recommend a GEC or Case for a modern slipjoint. I love the feel and vintage look. Makes me think of simpler times.

Not sure if I could do it or not. It's a hump to accommodate the handle pin. Still an amazing knife and I guess this is a common issue with GEC knives. Most slipjoint collectors aren't even bothered by the issue because its such a great knife. Thanks Paddy☘👍

I'm disappointed to hear about the problem with the protruding pin that nicked the blade, I just purchased this exact model moments ago and usually check out the reviews first but this purchase was kind of spontaneous, I'm disappointed and a bit shocked that a company with this good of a reputation would not want to replace the knife for you. Maybe I should have stayed with my Rough Ryders, can't say I have had that problem with their $15 top of the line 440c steel. There is a disappointment around every corner, thanks for the tip though if I have this same problem I will be dealing with it differently. Cheers

@@BlueCollarSurvival Thank You and will do, this is my biggest investment in a slip joint as I am a Flipper enthusiast but these GEC knives have really captured my attention, next time I will check to see if you have a video before hand as I normally do, I think I got the last red one of these and at a good price to boot.

I filed the underside of the spring bar with a needle file, and re cleaned up the bevel on mine. Its perfect now. But yes it's bad if you dont know how to fix it. Well its bad anyways.

It's really a let down when you realize it's happening. I guy told me to either lay a piece of gutted paracord or thin piece of leather on the inside and it'll eliminate that. Still wish companies would be a little sharper on the quality control side. Thanks Felipe👊

You know there's so many styles of their knives that I really enjoy but after getting that roll from the blade racking on the spine I kind of got a little turned off by their knives. But I should probably give them another chance because I know they make very quality knives and people have had no issues with a lot of them as well.

Blade rap is unforgivable from GEC. If they were doing anything to reduce the outrageous secondary market I wouldn't feel that way but they aren't. Disgusting.

Knowing how to avoid abuse in a work knife can get so ironic. Of my knives the one I use the most is the cheapest one which was like a $7.99 Ganzo that looks something like a Delica clone. I use it the most because I know I'm going to abuse the edge and I don't want to damage the more expensive knives I actually bought for the purpose of supposedly being quality enough to handle the abuse. The other day I was dealing with an issue with one of my door locks and had to jimmy that sucker open with the Ganzo using the edge to catch the latch bolt and slide it over bit by bit. Didn't really hurt the edge, but later on I had my Rat 1 in D2 on me and I tried to do the same thing thinking it would work better if it came down to it again.. didn't have the same success and ended up cutting myself when it slipped lol. In that regard a knife like this even with a flaw still probably has more practical application in the 'work knife' world than a $200 benchmade.
@BlueCollarSurvival
@BlueCollarSurvival 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about being a great work knife. These GEC knives are meant to be used and abused. I also abuse the crap out of my Ganzo that resembles the Benchmade 940. I can always appreciate hearing someone talking about using their knives. They're tools, they're meant to be used. Thanks man👍

This run of 71's all seem to rap the blade. my first one I had to resharpen so many times it was no longer a bullnose by the time it stopped rapping the blade the second one I put a piece of 275 pracord in the bladewell it sits there nice and snug no glue and keeps the blade from hitting the backspring

Not much point doing a size comparison with an Opinel if you don't tell us which size Opinel it is! You shouldn't have blade rap - it's a basic manufacturing defect and you should return the knife to GEC for them to sort under their warranty, which they will do, no problem. If you try to rectify it yourself you might invalidate that warranty.

Thanks for the warning. Wish I had seen your video before ordering one last week as that particular issue really bugs me...like they are making their knives for collectors but not users. As you say though it's an easy fix and presumably will disappear after enough dremel tool grindings...lol, just kidding!
