Probably good to mention as well that GEC was started and is owned by Bill Howard, who was one of the designers of Queen Cutlery, and GEC is basically an offshoot of that company, they share the same roots, just BIll left Queen Cutlery and started up GEC to make and design his own knives there.

@thedaver89 жыл бұрын
+WeissBomb32 you can get a rough estimate on the time by counting each variation in the schedule as one day in a 5-day work week. So there's a little more time. But one thing that is really helpful, you can ask the fine folks at KnivesShipFree to send you an email whenever they receive the knives. That way, you don't have to worry about missing it. Plus, KnivesShipFree is doing a special order for the red ones, so they will be the only place you can find them on this next run. :)

It's funny and a bit perplexing, that this is apparently the most successful model that the company ever made, with their Missouri Trapper and Pioneer Trapper being second and third; yet when I spoke to their representative last week (15 Feb 16), they have no intentions of making another run of the Bullnose, at least NOT with the O1 steel like the one you have, nor either of the other aforementioned models. Which leads me to believe that the company's business model is to produce nothing more than instant "collector relics", rather than make durable, quality knives on a regular basis for people that USE knives instead of admiring them from a velvet-lined drawer. I bought their model 23 Pioneer Trapper in 2007 to use as my #1 all-around, EDC field & stream tool; the damn thing was so well made, it's still running strong, because I never pushed it beyond it's limits. But some day, when it wears out, I'm shit out of luck to get another one; because that's not what GEC is about. Terrible..............

The F&F's f&f...is outstanding, and in many cases is better than the other lines. But, that being said, GEC f&F is pretty dang good in general. Their lockbacks tend to suffer from some up and down play...but they are still very solid in use. I've got about 40-50 now...everything from a huge single blade Whaler to several Sheepsfoot 25s and a bunch of 15s....love them all and have some that are collectors, but most get used!

Regardless which trademark or brand GEC produces, they all come with the same level of fit & finish. There are some minute variances from knife to knife, but that is "the trade-off" for owning a truly hand-made quality knife......that is still made as "a factory knife". The only difference is the choice of materials used and fancy bolsters & blades in the Northfield line. Bill Howard was even quoted as saying: "There is no such thing as "a perfect factory made knife"......and that IS true......but I have yet to see any other company, including the old brands from a hundred years ago, that have the consistency that GEC's have.........just don't expect a $100 to $150 knife to be as flawless as a custom that commands a thousand dollars or even more. GEC is doing exactly what they SHOULD be doing.........and they are at the perfect price point. If GEC made them any better, they would have to cost much more than they do now. Out of 250 GEC knives I now own ( plus or minus a couple ), I've only had to return 2 knives for minor repairs. I'd say that's outstanding consistency. If anyone demands better overall quality, they better be ready to spend the big bucks & get on the year long waiting list of the better custom makers. Simply put........."GEC is the shit man".

@r1w3d9 жыл бұрын
haha alright guys I'm here as a radio broadcast tech to just lay it out. stereo takes two mikes and most cameras intended for video have two. if he leans more towards one it'll focus mainly off that mic or totally drop the other. he looks like he is moving around so it makes perfect sense. not trying to be an asshole just trying to help y'all understand why its like that. if he was further away from the cam it wouldn't be so bad but he's behind it so sometimes its going to happen. either way fantastic knife great review and I hope I can get my hands on one soon. already got my one knife for the month though haha

Their fit and finish isn't necessarily any better for their other lines, but it is usually very consistent across all lines. Most of the difference in price comes from complexity (number of blades, type of bolsters, materials used, amount of polishing). This knife is "rock bottom" because it is all steel with no bolsters and a very simple single satin blade construction. More complicated patterns like a #38 Grinling with Northfield trim has three blades riding on a splitback spring system with fluted nickle silver bolsters and brass liners. They take a huge amount of skill to make and assemble and are still only $110-160 depending on handle material. If you can find one.
@latetodagame18922 жыл бұрын
I have the orange one and I paid premium for the 01 steel. The steel would smash when I sharpened it. I had burrs on both sides. The edge would fold. It doesn't matter if a knife is well designed if the blades heat treatment is messed up. I think gec is hype!

You probably aren't going to find better overall quality than the Bullnose or Bullbuster Jeff. I've everything from the TC Barlows, 77 barlows, 85 bullet end jacks, 55 houndstooth, 56 doglegs, Scagel Fruitport, etc but nothing beats the fit and finish on the bullnose and bullbuster I've had. They've been just as flush as my customs with great snap and no gaps. Many higher end GEC's have had tiny, minute gaps and never 'truly flush' but the f&f always reigns true.

Usually the quality is consistent all the way through GEC's lines. The more expensive lines tend to have more 'extras' though, like fluted bolsters, polished blades, or upmarket handle materials.
@Ryouchijtx9 жыл бұрын
Ryan Sumner Oh I realise, I've been heavily into GEC's and custom slipjoints for a while now. You just don't always get liners without gaps, flush half stops, and perfect snap as you do with each f&f I've gotten. Which are 40$ off the cost of a 77barlow or 50$ off a TC.

'Tidioute' is their plain line, with crescent nail nicks, ect. 'Northfield' is the more expensive line, with long pulls, lined bolsters, upmarket scales and polished blades. Hey Jeff, I was just wondering, have you ever thought of upgrading your background? It maybe sounds weird but I think it could help! You now use a wooden table for your videos and stuff, but what if you use a (dark) grey background? I think some people even use an carbon fibre looking background for videos and pictures. This way it may look more professional, and draw more attention! I'm not trying to say that you have to (before people start hating on me, lol!) I know you like to keep things real and just sit at your table and talk, and I'm totally fine with that ;)
