@7:38 Shouldn't Becca have been eliminated immediately? She was challenged on her Contessa so she would have to lose one of her cards, then lose the other card to the Assassin.

I actually prefer to play this like these guys did, where the challenge + assassin only kills one influence, or it ends up making the assassin claim way too strong. And yes that means you should always claim contessa but challenging it is normally smart
@LegitArchitecture6 жыл бұрын
@Dead Fish that's stupid. There would be no risk to claiming contessa then. It devalues contessa way too much to play like this - nobody would hold contessa and nobody would assassinate. If you don't want to risk the insta-death, you can just let one of your influences die.

When Becca tried to block the assasination and failed for not having the countess, shouldn't she had lost 2 influence? 1 for the assasination and 1 for the bluff?? otherwise there is no reason not to bluff you have the countess

Haha you were first but yes, that's what I thought too ^^
@Zoltri6 жыл бұрын
100% yes thats how the game works. If it didn't there's no reason to not claim a contessa anytime someone uses an assassin because it takes power away from the assassin by always forcing them to second guess themselves, but the victim still loses the same amount regardless of if they have the contressa or not. It also makes a super interesting all in play trying to bluff having one.

In game 2 they also blocked stealing without claiming to have either captain or ambassador. At least in the Computer version you have to name the card you are using for blocking.

Aren't there also only supposed to be three of each card? If so I don't know how game 1 worked since Erica had four Dukes. Bad deck or can it be expanded, change in print?
@Kirov4ever4 жыл бұрын
@@jukka-pekkatuominen4540 The computer version isn't canon. It adds depth to not specify. Announcing block with Captain or Ambassador aids card counting: for example 2 Ambassadors are dead so claiming Ambassador to block only outs you as a non-Captain and if unchallenged grossly limits what you can do in future as stealing on future moves is no longer possible.
@jukka-pekkatuominen45404 жыл бұрын
@@Kirov4ever I don't consider Computer version canon when it breaks the rules of the game. But in this case I think it is how I would want to play. It adds depth to the game when you specify your cards because this game is about player interactions and gives opportunity for players to interact more. In case you want to claim to have ambassador and then go stealing on your turn (with the Captain that you actually had) is part of the game. You also don't need to have either of the cards to bluff your way out from the situation. It is hardly not a game breaker whether you played with this rule or the other. So in the big picture it probably doesn't even matter.

A tip for people who are first starting the game is: Try playing with only two people. When there are only two people, you don't believe the other player as much, and you'll find it easier to lie. This way, the games will be much quicker and you will get more accustomed to bluffing and challenging other people, and you won't be as nervous and tense when doing so in games with more people.

@Clumbob5 жыл бұрын
No, he didn't seem very good to me. He was taking 1 coin even when other people were taking foreign aid without being blocked and when the other guy ambassadored to get the assassin it should have been really obvious that he was bluffing the duke to get to 3 coins because his only chance of victory would be using the assassin (and obviously Lee would challenge the assassination if he were about to lose anyway).

@Zoltri6 жыл бұрын
Coup is more about social interaction, and the ability to bluff then any rock paper scissors style outcome. The most powerful card is the game is the card that people don't know is in play. If you can build the assumption that you have A captain/Duke, and no one is given reason to question it but in truth you have an assassin/contressa, you're hand size is essentially doubled if you play it well and you'll be set up to catch people compleatly off guard. Coup is a really elegant stratigic mind game to play with friends, it only devoles to rock paper scissors when you fail to hide whats truely in your hand.

By the rules you shuffle back into the deck, but if you ever play it I'd highly suggest playing the game with the change that any card that's revealed remains face up in the middle of the table, and the deck is never shuffled. If the Ambassador is used, he draws two from the top, and puts two on the bottom. It makes the game far more strategic because information of whats in the deck because incredibly valuable, something that's impossible to track if its always being reshuffled.

@custersword77466 жыл бұрын
The poker player did a fine job. I'm not sure you spotted it, but it was there. Also, the deck is clearly too small to shuffle properly. 50-60 is okay, but if you sleeve the cards and/or have small hands, that makes it more challenging. Double sleeving 99 cards makes shuffling the whole thing at once impossible, except maybe to pile shuffle, but that would take so long

When I told the the family that this was the replacement show for tabletop after we quit watching an episode half way through, they were angry. Now they are pissed at Will Wheaton for giving up on one of our favorite family youtube shows.
