This is a great game that I picked up right after watching this episode to play with my girlie and her son, definitely not an easy game but we have beaten it twice and had a blast playing, even when we lost. After watching almost ever episode, I now have several pages of games (especially Catan junior) that I need to hunt down and play with the family. Thank you guys for making a great show that introduces the world to some outstanding games and don't worry about the haters all about only pointing out the mistakes you make during the games you play. We are only human and every one of us that have ever played games have made a mistake here, wrong move there, or forgot to do this at this time. It happens! This video caused me to buy this game for my Mom (who loves board games) for Christmas! While my Mom loves playing board games with our family, over-competitiveness has prevented us from having a consistently fun (and tearless) experience. The idea of a co-operative game is such a good idea, and the game-play from the video looked so fun, I decided it had to be under our tree today. We just played our first game, and we loved it! The first time I played Forbidden Desert was right after I had read the book, "Sand" by Hugh Howey. It gave the game even more depth. Not as much as reading "The Settlers of Catan" novel and how it made the Catan world come to life, but still.... The combination of Felicia Day, Alan Tudyk, and Jon Heder on this episode was HILARIOUS! I love the imaginary worlds they each contributed...kinda hard to pay attention to the actual game...if it were at my house I'd have given up and just done role-play for the rest of the afternoon!

No its the direction the storm moves, so that makes it the direction the hole moves. And yes you are meant to be standing on a tile to excavate it... they are thinking of forbidden island rules where you can flip the ones next to you XP Edit: I Just looked it up and you are in fact right, I have always played it the way they are playing it though! XD Doesn't really matter though :P Sorry! :)

Actually, they ARE moving it the right way but I don't think they've realised it. I haven't watched the entire thing, just Alan's first turn (I should be writing my essay that's due tomorrow instead darnit!) and just had to look at the comments cause of the way they flipped tiles like Forbidden Island. Anyways, the tiles on the board are oriented in one direction, whereas the storm cards Wil draws are oriented the other way. There's a reason for the compass rose with the red arrow! (But of course now that I've watched a bit more I see that the graphics are doing it the wrong way. Oh well) I mean, the cards show tiles with an arrow. The logical way to read them would be "move the tiles in the direction of the arrow".

Edwin Blommaerts They also made it harder on themselves than they had to by missing good moves - like leaving the Climber out in the sun rather than having him pick up the Archaeologist to join them (actually, Climber and Navigator make a powerful combo - the Climber carries the Navigator around everywhere, letting the Navigator move himself 3 spaces per action too) - or when they spent two actions to move between diagonally adjacent tunnels... Overall, yeah, excavating adjacent tiles made it much, much easier on them - as shown by them winning without touching any of the water tiles...

They're excavating the wrong way. You excavate when "your pawn is on the desert side of a tile that does not have any Sand Markers on it, you may excavate it for 1 action." Also, the story is your party is in a helicopter to search for the legendary flying machine found in the Forbidden Desert, when the sand storm occurs. The helicopter crashes, and the only way to get out of the desert is to find the legendary flying machine and find its parts so your party can leave the desert. :P Love the show! I'd love to see you guys and gals play Dead of Winter! :D

Wow. Literally the very first turn of the game and they already screw the rules up. You can clear sand off of an adjacent tile, but to actually excavate (flip over) a tile, you have to be standing on it. In order to do what Alan did on turn one, you'd have to use 2 actions to clear off the two sand tiles, then use action three to move to one of them, another action to flip it, 2 more to get to the other tile, one more to flip that one, then a final action to get back to the starting point. By my math that's eight actions as opposed to the four you're supposed to get per turn.

Another mistake (don't know if mentioned yet) is about the storm eye move. The cards don't tell how the hole moves, but the tiles. So, when Wil said that the hole moves two spaces to his right, in fact it should be the tiles at the left of the storm eye that should move to the right instead. So the hole moves to the opposite direction. Did I make sense?

Also, you did a rule wrong - you can't excavate (flip) adjacent tiles, only the ones you are standing on.
