Travis is such a good player. He manages to stay in grogs character of being at 6 intelligence and handling everything with violence while also lightining up the mood in key moments and contribute to the advancement of the party. In other episodes he even used Grogs temper to speed up the narrative when it was about to slow down to a halt due to endless discussions by the others. And I just recently read a comment saying that he just started with D&D with this campaign. I would really like to have "noobs" like that in my group rather than some experienced players I knew in the past.

@thewebspinner4 жыл бұрын
As someone who's just gotten into d&d (thanks critters!) I've noticed that a lot of the experienced players in my group have a tendency to over-prepare. They know what creatures to expect and a lot of their weaknesses and strengths even when their in-game characters wouldn't know that stuff so they always end up defeating enemies with little or no effort. If you're struggling with this like I was with my group have a word with your DM and talk about switching things up, change the monsters around a bit, give them some unexpected skills or change the way they fight or behave. Just had an amazing session with my group and even though at first the older players were complaining that "this isn't how X would fight etc." by the end of it we all agreed it was a fantastic game and I honestly believe that the greatest strength of a party is adaptability and creativity. Throw in something unexpected and the game is 500 times better.

The kingdom and its loyal supporters stand, but they mourn the loss of their king and queen. Royal messengers seek out the last surviving of the wayward children of the Goliath family line. In a warm establishment of "lady favors and ale" a resting Grog is approached by a fancy man with a fancy envelope sealed by wax with a fancy yet recognizable family crest. @Vahnatai7 жыл бұрын
RAW, the antimagic cone has to be declared at the start of the Beholder's turns and also prevents the Beholder from using other eye beams within that cone ('cause they're magic). Lotsa things were kinda handwaved, but good DM's know when to focus on the mechanics and when to focus on the spectacle.

For real. He acted so bitter about the whole thing but he was the one insisting that he wasn't going to go in the lair no matter what. Somehow he expected to have all the glory but also save his own hide. I really don't get it. From the point that he insists that he stay safe while the rest of the group goes in I lost all respect for him as a player, yet that is not nearly the extent of his selfishness. Matt does a great job giving the players an idea of what is possible yet Orion seems to ignore all that and expects that his solutions will work anyway. Clarotta had given a blatant warning to Tiberius telling him that his disguise probably wouldn't work, yet he did it anyway and simultaneously expected the mindflayers to help him while he's yelling orders at them in common when Matt had been clear about how Clarrota and other mindflayers communicate. Even all that would be fine if he had acknowledged that he made a mistake, but no, he had to be bitter. All this on top of cheating constantly. Really just detracts from the game.

@@orionjaeger2822They still would have been overrun eventually. Persia was sending a large enough army to populate a small country. Better terrain, weapons, and a sound strategy helps, but eventually they'd have been overrun regardless unless Sparta sent more troops. 1000 soldiers (and the king) vs more than 100,000? No contest. Numbers in a battle with the same basic technology on both sides DO win the battle. Contrary to the movie, there were NOT only 300 of them. Being held at the side of a cliff next to heavily salted wind for several days with zero supply line for water (tho they did bring more than plenty on food) will not be doing them any good. @@katieb.1163 I mean... Sorcerers kinda break the rules and do extra things on their turns as a feature, so it's not really that out-of-line that he was trying to do a lot in one turn. I think one of the worst parts of the whole Orion pissfit he threw during the big boss fight was it killed Matts usual willingness to reward out of the box, crazy ideas. Any other time Laura's Bolo arrow shot would probably have resulted in one or two of the beholders eyes being (maybe temporarily) disabled or impeded but due to just being exhausted from Orion's constant rule twisting he shot the idea down cold. There's few worse things in a DnD game than seeing a DM lose their joy in the game. Thank God Matt rebounded pretty quickly.

It's important to note that he was confused about the plan, not just him but others too. They weren't sure if they were fighting or retreating to get the mind flayers. Then mat has them all getting pulled into the room sorta forcing an encounter when they had verbally said they wanted to run after, but still others wanted to fight. It was kinda confusing. It's easy to look back years later and say "I wouldn't have done that" but people get mad sometimes.
