I love Free Leagues games. I’m ramping up a Forbidden Lands solo which I think is a setting that would really work well. I love this video format. There are a lot of videos talking about solo play, but not enough actual play to help those of us who want to but sometimes struggle.

Thanks. All my vids have play demos but here I put the demo before the commentary-usually I comment first.

I’m an older TTRPGer, turned Board Gamer, but I’m recently consumed by Solo TTRPGs. I have had some fun with solo Mausritter and Dragonbane. My pattern of thinking toward procedural and not so much creative play. The way you seamlessly move the story along and integrate things from your random tables is very impressive and entertaining to watch. Symbaroum is next on my wishlist. Great video. Thanks.

Where to find 'Hexcrawl Adventures' by Luke Kennedy? It would be great if you would include links to the things you use in your videos.

Hexcrawl Adventures is searchable on the Basic Fantasy website in the forums. I try to post links for many things I use but in a lot of cases, what I'm using are things I've had for many years if not decades as might not know where I got them.

@@GeekGamers01 Well, I jumped in and ordered the Core Rulebook (with accompany PDF). I’m really loving the ambiguity presented in the setting. Is it really Queen Korinthia or is she an imposter behind that mask? What happened to her while in Captivity. And that’s just a few sentences. There is SO MUCH for players to make their own, which is especially appealing for solo play.
@berukno16013 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention in my earlier comment that I do like this type of presentation, although I'm fine either way, I watch your videos in their entirety, there are so few soloists and your ideas have allowed me to go into directions I would have never thought of. One of my favorite examples of this is your early Starfinder video where you started with the starship rather than the usual formula of character creation, so you already think outside the box and as a soloist you have to.
@GeekGamers013 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks so much. I really appreciate that and yes, in that vid as in many others I start with the environment!

Great solo adventure. Chapter 12 of the Game Mater's Guide has all the tables you need to create random hex crawls, encounters, explore ruins and discover curiosities, mystical treasure and artifacts. It has a hex map of the Dakovar forest. Alternatively, the Symbaroum starter box also has a similar chapter, but it is not identical. You can mix and match both together. (correction: typos)

I did some solo sessions with Sybaroum using Ironsworn as both emulator and travel mechanic, and it worked great, that is until we came across an incorporeal enemy, and the mages spells were our only effective weapon and he got corrupted enough to join the enemy's side...lol

I own this rulebook and play it a lot because it's so self contained and very adaptable to solo play moreso than any other rpg out there, and I own just as many as you do. As you touched on, the biggest draw is the narrative and the quantity of material provided, way more than what you'd get with the run of the mill high fantasy rpg's that don't work for me, paizo and wizards had so many opportunities to incorporate soloist material and never do and I've largely abandoned it in favor of rulesets such as this. I hope you can do more videos of it.

Totally agree about Symbaroum. I've enjoyed this a bunch. Definitely a solo RPG highlight of 2021 for me.... not sure about another vid or vids, however. I find that no matter what when I do more than 1 vid on a system, nobody watches the 2nd or 3rd vids!

@@LeTempliers Hmm. Hard to say as I don't know your comfort level with soloing... for me it is actually harder to work with pre-made adventures (but that's just me!). Whatever you decide, I think you will enjoy the system and the world. (I will say--as I did in this vid--that there is *a lot* of world-building in the book I bought. That could be a bit overwhelming, or something you'd just skip, and it's the first 67 pages of the book I have.) In case this helps, here's how it breaks down: 1-71 is the world of symbaroum, including detailed descriptions of places and factions with descriptions of possible NPCs (but no stats for them). part 2 is the player's guide (pp. 72-165); part 3 is GM guide (pp. 166-235); part 4 is an adventure (pp. 236-256 or so); an appendix with artifacts and location. There is a discussion in the GM guide about generating adventures but no "adventure generator." If you are looking for lots of random tables, you won't find too many here.
