"Hooked" by the crochet again! A great review and another game I would not have known (and bought) but for you - thank you! One small thing that is also done wrong in 90% of the other playthroughs on the web: You do not start automatically with prompt 1, you just start counting there. Even for the first prompt you need to roll the dice (confirmed by Tim). A pointer to that is in the prompt text itself : The "Create a new mortal" part would not be necessary if this were always the first prompt of the game.

Thanks for the comment and for noting the correct way to begin. I did read that but then when I started I forgot. As it turns out my first roll, had it been the same, would have started me at 1 anyway. Pinning your remark to call attention to your correction. Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad you enjoyed it and found your way to this marvelous game.

I was super lucky to find and acquire the one physical copy available at my local game store. This game looks and is amazing. Totally worth it, especially as a fan of vampires.

funny enough, my very short adventure into solo rpgs started with buying TYOV pdf and realizing it is a journaling rpg that gave me a craving for more mechanics. it led me to looking into how to play dnd solo, found AW and how to solo pathfinder which lead me straight to your channel. this is all like in the span of the last 2 weeks. anyways love your channel

Oh well that IS funny! Glad you found your way here... I’ve got lots of mechanics. :)

Same, led me to mork borg and blades. MB is fun and not too many rules and it includes a dungeon to get you started.

Wonderful demonstration of the game play! This seems like a game where the more you invest in your Solo RPG techniques ( creating stories / the ability to pick up and interpret prompts etc), the more you will get out of this game. This also reminds me of Ironsworn due to the simplicity / sandbox nature in its core. Providing an easy introduction to new players to Solo RPG. Lastly I think this book may also be used as a supplement (like the Artefact system) to generate interesting villains in other solo RPG system as well! I never would have thought of creating a Vampire / Lich or any boss with such interesting back stories as Annie (now Catherine) the mushroom brewing apothecary Vampire by rolling RPG monster tables

Thanks for this wonderful comment as you bring up a great point I failed to mention in my video-I was too sucked into the world of this game! You are so right: this book could be used to quickly (or slowly) generate backstories for NPCs in other games or even just memories for your characters. Thanks for writing

I really enjoy this book. Its production is fantastically themed, and, for writers, a wonderful escape from reality in a unique journaling experience.

It’s a GREAT game-and I don’t even like journaling RPGs

Daaaaaamn one of the most beautiful RPG books I've ever seen. I actually bought the PDF, but sadly could not afford to buy the Paperback because shipping costs to Spain are really prohibitive. I'm kinda teeming with envy right now haha! hope you enjoy it!
@GeekGamers013 жыл бұрын
I did! The book is lovely but you can absolutely play with the pdf because when you get into it you aren’t really looking at the book very often.

@@GeekGamers01 For some reason I feel like playing from a PDF is quite immersion breaking for me with journalling games specifically, I'm not sure why. I had to print off and nicely construct my copy of English Eerie for that reason.
@GeekGamers013 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewSFTSN I do agreee myself... I don't like to play with pdfs either but in the case of this book I think it would be more possible than, say, with Mork Borg (to give an example from a recent vid of mine)

There's a list of practically everything on BGG and likely RPGgeek.com.... that said, I don't know of one specifically but you could search. There's another popular one called Quill. As I don't typically play them, I don't know others. English Eerie, I think, was mentioned somewhere in these comments.

IMO it’s totally the opposite of those/has nothing to do with that kind of product. (I realize it may seem that way because of progression through prompts, but gameplay shares nothing whatsoever with those kinds of books.)

I've been very curious about this book for a while now. Thank you for the thorough flip-through and commentary! Such a beautiful book! It was great seeing you do a bit of playthrough of the game. Using the prompts you get a lot of interesting twists! Hope to get my hands on this book someday! - Jill

Hey, I have a recommendation for you, a game series called Arkham Noir a set matching game that sort of generates a detective story based on lovecraft's stories.

Thanks for this suggestion. I’ve heard of this game but think I dismissed it because it seemed one and done (I.e., you can’t replay it). Am I wrong about that?

Deb, if you're interested in another clever vampire-themed game, a GM-less sandbox hex-crawl, check out Vampire: Alone in the Darkness by 101 Games. It's inspired by classic VtM, and I think you'd like it.
