Seconded. Regardless of how the trunk is made, you've set a high-quality standard for wargaming trees. The glimpses into your mass-production line for them was informative. Perhaps you could review how you plan and prepare for mass builds like that? Not in detail, perhaps a few minutes on your process.

As someone who also makes LARP props you could possibly speed up the process by adding craft acrylic in 3 to 1 ratio with your liquid latex you could colour and coat in one go

Brilliant vid. I live in Australia and use the uprooted roots of woody weeds (a byproduct of my work) as basic tree armatures (because free is cheaper than cheap) Many of the techniques you showed here are completely transferrable and will work well to make my next batch of trees better looking and harder wearing. those latex skin webbings look like tent caterpillar webbing. So if you left them on, you could have trees suffering a severe tent caterpillar infestation. Or possibly Mirkwood spiders, if you're doing fantasy terrain. Add a few mini spiders to that, and it would look rather convincing.

I did one of those tree armatures with seafoam using the geekgaming base ready glue. I found as long as you hold it in place for a second it held it to the tree much better than other glues.

Liquid latex is fantastic. I used to use it back in the day for larp costumes and weapons. You can mix it with most acrylic or latex based paint just stay clear of paints with strong chemical scents (terpentine, etc) and untested spraypaints. Some of these can melt latex and results in a stickyness that can last for years. It can probably do everything PVA does. Just differently. Its a more flexible alternative. Fun fact for Larp weapons we found 3 dips was adequate to make a weapon that would last for years.

i use sponge to get stronger trees. First i mix it, then i use a mix of colour and white glue. Takes very long to dry but it's rocksolid. Since it gets smaller at it dries, a second passage is necessary. It's great for dense trees and hedges.

After the liquid latex it's pretty similar to how I've done trees, but your starting point looks so much better! Definitely going to have to see how easily I can get the other materials, I love the woodland scenics armatures.

This was so fun! I have always wanted to make a gaming table that was coverd in trees but as you mentioned, I am always afraid of them losing too much flock all over the place. And honeslty 60 trees in two days! Wow, I feel like that is pretty managable, even for myself who is a small-time hobbyist. Thanks for another great video!

As a railway modeler I was surprised to see a wargamer using Woodland Scenics products as they a mostly known as a model railway scenery company. Although your trees are designed for wargaming they would also be perfect for a portable model railway that goes to shows. As for a home layout you could skip the last bit.

I was not convinced by the durability of Sea Foam so for my trees I used the same armatures but used a kind of 3D foam that is put in gutter to keep out leaves. Like a very porous sponge structure. Tore it bits then painted it before using. Might be good if someone isn't making so many trees that they can justify filling a bucket with latex.

Okay so what he's calling seafoam is actually supertrees. And it has a plant that smells like lichen and looks just like what you see except he's broken it off of the stems. On the stems they look very much like very real trees. But what he's doing with it is also impressively creative and I'm going to try it. This plant grows in Scandinavia and it can be ordered from Scenic Express in the United States. I'm not sure where he gets it I guess I could look in the details.

Have you considered how Liquid Latex changes over time? I've used it a lot for prosthetics and they simply break down over 6 months because it's an organic material. Might be ok under all the varnish and sealer but just interested how they will stand up over time.

They look great. How much do you think each tree costs in the end, £5 or £6? I'd love to have a good copse or orchard for my rank'n'file gaming but it's usability is a concern. Does a magnet solution work well for trees (so I can remove it for a 20 unit base). Or maybe a short bolt, with a nut on the base/ground that the tree could be screwed into (might take to long to do that during play).

Exactly how I made my trees a while ago, except I didn't have the liquid latex rubber. Mine still hold up to gameplay, but I wish I had that added step in there.
