I found this video really useful in helping me decide on the 80D. So thank you. I don’t regret the purchase at all. I’m running it nearly exactly how you are - with the 10-18 and the 24mm pancake. I also grabbed the nifty fifty f1.8. I set the C1 to be the “A-roll” settings - 24fps, 1/50, auto ISO etc. then I have C2 exactly the same but 60fps and 1/125. Makes it easy to switch back and forth without even looking at the camera. I’ve also made good use of the AE lock button. It is an alternative way to lock the ISO in place like you demonstrated when shooting your b-roll, but only one button push. Per a tip from a CreativeRyan video I just started running the Neutral picture profile with sharpness up one and contrast all the way down. Really pleased so far.

Great video, switching from a camcorder to a 80D and this video will be super helpful on how to record in manual mode with the correct lenses and settings. Subscribed!

Thank you! One thing I forgot to cover in this video is you can use C1 and C2 to store settings (like switching between 24 fps and 60 fps). Enjoy your new camera! 😊

Nice job! Very informative and helpful. Just got my 80D the other day and still figuring it all out. I've already decided the kit lens isn't quite wide enough for vlogging, so I guess I'll get that 11mm. Thanks.

Yes man! Needed this! Thanks for hooking this up. How you been liking that 80D?
@EricCosner6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I’m happy with the 80D. I use it for all kinds of stuff (vlogging, slow motion b-roll, and photography). I’ve learned to push its limits. Lol. Recently I shot an aquarium trip in really low light. I just used lenses with larger apertures. I’ve thought about upgrading to the Canon 6D Mark II since it has better low light and still has an articulating screen.

Does the camera get heavy while extending your arm out?
@EricCosner2 жыл бұрын
The 80D and 10-18mm aren't too bad. There for a while I was vlogging quite frequently and I do think it made my arms stronger the more I used it. My wife and kids do think the camera is heavy though, but I'm usually the one behind the camera.

Great video mate! I think you should use the c1 and c2 mode on your camera tho for your frame rate changes so much faster

Thank you for suggesting this, Real Pro Gaming! When I created this video I honestly had no idea about c1 and c2. To anyone else reading this comment, I go over this in my Canon 6D Mark 2 Manual Mode video, but the steps should be the same for 80d 😄 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJe8Z4OljZuHnJo

wow your video looks great. i also have the canon 80d and just recently bought the 90d which is an excellent upgrade. your right though the 80d is still an excellent choice for video, most you tubers shoot in 1080 anyways. smaller file sizes and most people who are watching youtube are doing so on their phones anyways, and most of those don't have 4k screens. again excellent video.
@EricCosner5 жыл бұрын
I'm really curious about the 90d. I was really happy to hear that Canon had released 4K with the 90d with its dual-pixel autofocus and no meaningful crop! Since making this video I now also shoot with a 6D Mark 2, so now I'm wondering do I get a 90d or will the 6D Mark 3 have decent 4K 🤔😄

great video man i’ve been looking into a new camera with a very nice mic. keep up the great work!
@EricCosner6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, man! I think that good quality audio is even more important than having good picture at times. Ironically, almost this entire video was shot on my iPhone, and the sound quality drove me a little nuts during the edits. I definitely need a directional mic for my iPhone.... it was also raining at times and it sounded like I had noise in the audio... lol

@@EricCosner I was wondering what you shot this on... It's the best quality I've seen on KZbin and better than any video I can get out of my 80D. Which iPhone?

Love your videos! Been binge watching them all day! I just switched over to the Canon 80D from the Canon T7i. I’m a videographer for a famous baseball KZbinr Zack Hample. I shoot a lot of game action as well batting practice. In addition, I shoot Zack in front of the camera for the intros and the close and talking segments throughout the video. Should I be shooting in 24fps,30fps or 60fps. Or switching between them depending on what I’m shooting? I have been shooting in 30fps but when the ball is thrown or hit it looks more like a shooting star with a tail that’s jittery. Almost like it can’t keep up. Also having issue which exposure often going from sunlight to ballpark lights. Should I be constantly white balancing? What can I do to fix that? His KZbin channel is Zack Hample if you wanna take a look at what we shoot. Any advice would be a tremendous help! -Chris
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris! Thanks for the positive feedback! I watched a few of your videos and they look and sound great! If you are shooting in 24 fps make sure your shutter speed is 1/50, for 30 fps use 1/60 and for 60 fps use 1/125. This should provide the best motion blur for capturing the ball. If the shutter is going too fast it may cause a jittery look. Also, you may need to switch to ALL-I instead of MP4 if the camera is having trouble keeping up with the motion. ALL-I on the 80d is only available for 24fps and 30fps. Something you could try. ALL-I saves each frame independently, but makes for bigger files on the SD card. For switching between the two lighting environments, you could setup C1 and C2 on the dial. For example, C1 could be balanced for sunlight and C2 could be set for the other. I'm not sure what lens you are using, but adding a variable-ND could give you another option for getting exposure right if you aren't already using one. Anyhow, hope this helps! Thanks for the question!

@@EricCosner Lots of helpful info there, thank you. For the type of videos we shoot, what frame rate would you use? What would look better? Also to get a sharper image, should I turn the sharpness all the way up?
@EricCosner3 жыл бұрын
@@MindJoeBusineess I think 24fps or 30fps should be fine. I've always used 60fps on the 80d for slow motion (slowed down to 24 fps in premiere), but I have seen more youtubers using 60fps by default. The only drawbacks with 60fps is you may see more noise in low-light, and some platforms like facebook will change your 60 fps to 30 fps and it makes it look jittery. As for sharpness, if you plan to color-grade and work on your footage in some editing software, it's generally better to turn sharpening down and then add it in during the editor software.

@EricCosner6 жыл бұрын
Hercules Franco it came with my Canon 80D bundle when I ordered on Amazon. I believe it's called the Altura Photo Sling Backpack. I recently upgraded to a Canon 6D Mark II so now I am using a larger backpack and I really miss the portability of the other one.
Yeah that's the backpack! It seems you have to buy it with a lens

How does that pancake lens do for vlogging? I have an 80D and looking to get a fixed wide angle so I can have better aperture
@EricCosner2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the question! My experience is the 24mm is a bit tight for vlogging. It can be done but you will find yourself very close up in the shots. It's great for mounting on a tripod and it has pretty good macro ability. I had purchased the pancake lens hoping to use it for talking head in my studio, but even in there I find myself grabbing a wide angle since the room is smaller. You could consider the 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. It's the lens that Casey Neistat always used with the 80D. It's a slightly larger aperture than the 10-18mm 4.5.
@steelontarget2 жыл бұрын
@@EricCosner thank you. I do have the 10-22 but seems like auto focus gets picked up by the camera. Because of that, I may get a Rode mic.
@EricCosner2 жыл бұрын
@@steelontarget I think the Rode would help since it is a directional mic and has the shockmount to buffer vibrations. The USM lenses are little bit louder. These days I've been using a 16-35mm 2.8 USM lens on a full-frame body. The mic sometimes picks up the focus motors, but it's rare that it happens.

I just bought the 80D still getting used to it i do alot of vlogging and i use the g7x so its hard to transfer from a small camera to a big one . . Question tho the lense ur using is not the one it came with tho right
@EricCosner5 жыл бұрын
Correct, the lens was ordered separately. I ordered the body only. My favorite lens for vlogging on the 80D is the 10-18mm f4.5. There’s also a 10-22mm f3.5 that would do a little better in low light. I like vlogging really wide but I know others are happy with on something like 18mm
