That's a beautiful model! I've been needing a technique like this for a few 3D models I have designed - this should work perfect. Wonder if I can drape the heated PETG over a positive mold of cockpit form.
@geekjoan4 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can. But you have to help the PETG in to the smaller cracks. Or you get a small vacuum pump.

You make it look so easy

I want to do this for my ALIEN figures from NECA and others, including my original ones I'm sculpting. I don't have a Vacuum Form machine and I need to be able to do this at a particular scale.

Did you use PET?
@jamesonthomas95834 жыл бұрын
Do you think this would work if I were to try and heat this into a mold?
@geekjoan4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. it works, but depending on the mold the PET could stick to it.

Hey I’m trying to make a Apollo 13 replica helmet. It’s basically a large bubble but there’s a little oblong shape to it. Similar to a oval at the base but round at the top. How would I got about making this?
@geekjoan3 жыл бұрын
You need to make a "template" of the shape, and let the plastic "form" around it to do that. You can use the same technique with hot air. But a vacuum forming technique would get you a better result. Problem is to make the template.

You could go to your "local" sign making company. They probably have some to spare. I got my from the company that sell plastics to your local sign making company... ?
@geekjoan5 жыл бұрын
I got it at my local plastic supplier. But I guess you could try out you local glazier.

Looks pretty sloppy to me, you could have printed a cradle for the sheet form into. Thanks for the inspiration though.
