Great help. Thank you. In case this helps somebody else: One doesn't need to remove the spring to be able to replace wire.

I had the same problem with our daughters Dyson. Your film helped me a lot. It is not necessary however do open the spring compartment. I only ‘unwound’ it. My trouble was to find two new cable connectors (cable shoes?) to put on the end of the cable. The ones I could find were 7.4 mm. Today I am gonna put these on the cable, and I will try to get the machine together again.

Thanks I just saved £69 thanks to you ! I took the clear plastic side off first and saved re doing the spring. Thanks again !
@MrOldhoot3 жыл бұрын
I found I could get the clear plastic part off to get to the main connectors without unclipping and removing the spring assembly. I removed the small black ring as you did on the spring side then using pointed pliers squeezed the clear plastic shaft together and eased it through. However, it was tight. Then having eased it back a bit the spring wanted to uncoil so I allowed this to happen, I'll have to wind it back when I get the cable back on. Unfortunately, having cut the cable back and tested it from the plug with an ohm meter there was still a break, so I cut the plug off and still no through connection so I've had to order a new cable. Just hope I can get it back together OK. Thanks for the video it was extremely useful mistakes and all, I probably wouldn't have attempted it otherwise but I didn't fancy recoiling the spring! Also thanks to all the others who have commented below, some useful tips. Always a good idea to read the comments for ideas before tackling the job, I should have done that first. Doh!

Well, you made HARD WORK of that and even failed to pretension the mechanism to ensure that it retracted the cable. There is a much simpler way to do it without risking the spring becoming apart. Basically, you do not undo the clips holding the two black parts together. That way, the spring stays safely coiled up in its housing. The secret is to detach the clear plastic part and this enables you to get to the cable. Spray the cable with silicone spray and then you can pull it through whilst pushing on the other end. Then you can cut off the broken cable, strip back the insulation and fix two new flag terminals. Put it back together and the pretension the spring by the right amount. Job done! I'll do a vid on my channel when I do the next one. No apology for being negative but if you do a demonstration, you really ought to do the job properly.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to pull out the spring!! Just the little clip in the middle is enough to get the shaft out to access the cables on the other side. Off course you CAN pull out the spring in case you have nothing else to do, but it does not help you in any way to repair the damaged wires.
@TerryLawrence0013 жыл бұрын
Just a hint - Although the spring looked wound tight, it wasn't. If you put the machine back together with the cord wrapped around the reel then pull it out, it will retract. The trick is to wind it up a bit more while outside the machine to get it to pull in tightly.
@TerryLawrence001 Жыл бұрын
@@geplayer I mean that after removing the retract mechanism, pull some cord out and manual wrap it back on the spool. This way the spring has more force when you pull it out and retracts faster when you let go.

Dude, did you shoot any video on how you wound up the spring. I have an old Eureka 1756 I was trying to clean the contacts and being so careful but it popped out anyway. The outside of the spring is spot welded to that cage so i have to wind it with the cage attach . Any tips would be helpful.

The dogs chewed through my wire on my DC39 hoover. Can I just buy a new cable or does it have to be the whole pulley system? Thanks
@GeekStreet5 жыл бұрын
Depends on the cut location if you have ample cable then buy a 3 plug, cut where the dog chewed and attach the plug.

I have a problem with my Dyson DC08, it wont start. I bought a replacement motor which works when connected to the mains but when connected to it´s normal cables it just won´t start. I thought the problem might be with the cable, and I followed your tutorial (kept away from the coil!!!) and it´s not that. The switch also seems to work. Any ideas?
@GeekStreet5 жыл бұрын
There's not much in the hoover, cable, motor and switch. You tried replacing the fuse? Plug? And then perhaps try a different cable?

Instant red flag when you see Dyson Hoover. (Dyson Vacuum cleaner) Hoover is a brand, like Dyson :)

In the UK "Hoover" also has a generic meaning equivalent to Vacuum, and as a verb (i.e. "to hoover"). Like Xerox in the US.
