And he said he doesn't think Shaggy is a stoner, and th creator also said Shaggy didnt smoke weed but James Gunn put some double entendres about that in his movie, like Shaggy saying that Mary Jane (Maria Juana/Marijuana) is his favorite name, the first scene of him and Scooby frying vegan burgers playing reggae and them laughing and saying "talk about toasted". He was a beatnik, he definitely smoked weed.

I hated it when he was first cast as Shaggy in the cartoons. I really disliked the live action movies and I was pretty upset that they had replaced Scott Innes with Matthew Lillard. Over the years he's really grown on me though and I had the privilege to actually talk to one of the guys who was behind Be Cool Scooby-Doo and he told me just how seriously Lillard takes the role of Shaggy and how important it is for him that the character to be authentic for the fans. I have great respect now for Lillard in this role and I'm pretty disappointed they replaced him for the Scoob movie but I am glad that he's still in the cartoons and DTV movies.

nah, he(shaggy) is based on hippies (well tbf, the whole mystery inc is), he smokes (he doesn't in cartoon but, that is the point) and then he eats a lot with his dog. What anyone thinks is not important, the roots matter. I'm surprised they didn't make him actually smoke in the old cartoons when they could've easily made it so that he smokes cigarettes instead of blunts (smoking rules for cartoons back then were pretty lax).
