Pity these are the only comments here so far. Honestly, what's wrong with people? This is a priceless and fantastic historical record of our hometown. The fact that this footage has survived is a miracle. Wonderful indeed.

Certainly historical for me as I was in the watching crowd. T. S. Barwon Sea Cadets looked great and the school marching Military Cadets, most likely, Geelong Grammar, which preceded the actual returned soldiers looked smart. We bought most of our furniture from Kisheres, on the "never - never", and I remember all those shops on the eastern side of the street starting from Cullens Hotel. Tis a pleasure to relive those times, when Geelong had a certain simplicity and character to it, and when your neighbour looked after your unsecured house and we would return the favour when they went out. They were the times!

That's right. I had family living in Geelong Australia, it has changed so much in 30yrs, but it's a good progressive city and the inner suburbs have changed dramatically. Many locals are blow ins from Melbourne 2nd generation children of the wealthy suburbs hence the gentrification. Geelong still has pockets that have remained the same since day dot. When I drove from Bairnsdale to Port Fairy, I certainly stopped for 3 days in Geelong.

They had 16 year old girls parading around in very little in front of old men. I believe they still have the Regatta today but I'm pretty sure they don't have 16 yr old girls parading around for a competition.

You do know back then 16 year olds generally has finished school and we’re working as adults. Or another millennial with sketchy knowledge of history?

They has finished school, had they? They were by no means working as adults. If my sketchy memory is right, they were being paid a percentage of adult wages. At 16 it was probably around 50% of an adult wage. Hardly being treated as an adult. Dirty old men, perving on young, 16 year old girls, not much changes regardless of whether these girls were working or not.

This was not parading, this was a lovely moment for young ladies to show themselves with deportment... A lovely moment for them but I must say they are homely girls...

The bugle ladies looked better.

Probably😅 but this moment was something no one could equate through modern perceptions... Innocence on parade...
