Its always been a mystery how Whitneys bad voice sick voice diminished octave or missing registers still was so Powerful crisp precise and still able to convey the story so dynamically... The entire song was on note on emotion and cracked on her most beautiful note we know from her... The final soaring "you" from I will always love you... The hardest note to make stick modulate and hold.. Whitney what sacrifice and discipline and training you must have endured. You were one of those moments i am so blessed to have been alive while u usually sounded better live then on cd consistently.. no gammicks games or tricks

@@gregwoolliscroft6255she has been well-studied. most of it is documented by her music director, coach and others who were on tour/in the studio with her. music journalists too. If you do your own digging you can find posts on sound engineer forums by people who worked with her, stating tech specs etc. She is worth studying if you take music seriously. For one thing, this video is from 1991. Some of the most technically pure and impressive performances of her career were 1994-1995. I recommend the Brazil ‘94 concert. So this is well before the “decline.” I think many feel threatened by her on some level, so she is “not allowed” to have a chest cold/sore throat in 1991- it just HAD to be “drugs” or something to knock her down a few pegs. It can be confusing to see someone shine so brightly and divinely, but the point is that she literally invited everyone to sing WITH her. She wasn’t against a soul.

I love reading these comments…yes this was a sick performance, and reading about this “vocal chord” issue…(I know she had issues in the mid 90s for sure with her doctors saying she had nodules after the Bodyguard tour) but two things come to mind: 1) Whitney came from church. Her two new songs “Testimony” and “He Can Use Me”, her technique was way more raw in her early years and she belted and growled way more than when her career started. I think she found her voice after her record deal in the style of her true singing. This was light work, this performance. She used her head voice and still powered through. And it was amazing. 2) Even though she was super sick here, later that next year she recorded the biggest song of her career and her voice bounced back. She really left a beautiful catalogue and even with its hardships her voice defied the odds.

@I-AM-BELIEVER
@I-AM-BELIEVER Жыл бұрын
She didn’t have to tour extensively like that. She chose to and her label wasn’t pushing her cause touring is for artists not the label. She could’ve created other brands under her management to help pay the label back and support her family. Plus, she had an extensive date under this tour where she did some 100 shows literally back to back and maybe a day off here, and there in between. This was all Whitney.
@Bigdrip840
@Bigdrip840 Жыл бұрын
No the label and Clive didn't want her to tour. Touring is the only venue where she keeps all the money and they don't get any. Whitney didn't write or produce so she didn't get money over time like some, but she out sold everyone so in many ways she prolly made as much just as the movie showed the people she trusted stole from her and she found out too late.

Whitney, Mariah and Celine are the only three examples in the WHOLE WORLD, of female singers with high octane, vocally demanding songs, who were also HUGE global stars, requiring them to tour extensively and overuse their vocals. Singing those difficult songs, night after night. That is why it is difficult to find another example of vocal deterioration anywhere else Aretha, Gladys, Patti all had big voices and BIGGER songs, but did not have 200 dates to fulfill in a single year, touring worldwide. Same goes for Opera singers, and why they sustain their instruments for longer These three were an exceptional case scenario that never happened before And it became tougher for Whitney not only because of substance abuse and her multiple miscarriages, but also the fact that she chose not to lip sync when her voice wasn't there, like Celine and Mariah often did. Whitney concerts were always 100% live and Mariah and Celine managed to save their vocals on some of difficult parts of their songs, which is also why their voices lasted longer. And that is precisely the reason why you have more "bad" performance available of Whitney online, because she simply chose to sing live, no matter what the condition of her voice was. Regardless, I heard someone say that an artist's true prime lasts for about a decade, and I do believe Whitney's prime between 1985 to 1996 (intentionally including the year in which The Preacher's Wife was recorded, because that's her best studio vocal ever) cemented her as the greatest to ever do it.

The reason why Whitney was so special and so beautiful is that she could bring her love for God through her music But she was never pushy or pushed her relationship or what she believed on anybody else is was all beautifully worded and sung And she would do this in many countries where this is not allowed but they let her cause she was never in trouble or reprimand it for doing this that's what makes her so unique and special you know when she performed at The NYC Gay Pride Event The man interviewing her asked her most singers would be reluctant to come and perform at these events And she looked at him and said we're all God's children honey. ❤
