@timberwolf15753 жыл бұрын
I would also add the thought that they needed clones trained for maintenance as well. So they could have ordered a relatively small number of complete units and a lot of spare parts. Then they put the maintenance clones to work assembling the parts into complete vehicles. Also, aside from the weapons, many of the other parts could reasonably be written off as civilian parts. Fast shuttles for search and rescue, heavy vehicle chassis for heavy construction/mining/agriculture, etc. It's the starships and heavy vehicle weapons that would raise more eyebrows.

@@bogustoast22none25 ok but that doesn't justify replacing it with the stupidly designed ATAT.
@bogustoast22none253 жыл бұрын
Speedy It depends how you look at it. The ATAT was at first deployed during the clone wars and it was meant to be Imposing, have an overhead view of the field, and armored enough to survive getting shot at due to its sheer size. In this respect, the ATAT surpassed the ATTE. When it came time to use in the Empire, who mainly had to deal with untrained rebels, protesters, and other mostly civilians, who would flee at the mere sight of such a beast, while the ATTE wouldn’t inspire as much fear. If you break their spirits, they won’t think of ways to beat you. That was the thought process, which aligned with Palpatine. As for the LAAT, even though it had build itself a reputation, it was still pricey to manufacture and maintain, far more than other Imperial troop transports, and it could not justify itself being a multi-role war machine when there was no war going on.
@michaelramon24113 жыл бұрын
The Empire didn't have to do troop landings under heavy AA fire nearly as often as the Republic, so the LAAT wasn't as useful while still being a pain to maintain or train pilots for.
@spiritvdc51093 жыл бұрын
@@bogustoast22none25 The issue being, they forgot that fear is caused by the ability to crush them, not a scary appearance without the power to back it up... the scariest thing in a fight is an opponent who you know is capable of destroying you easily even if they don't look the part, and that raw power can make even unassuming vehicles terrifying if their reputation is allowed to accumulate.

The biggest problem I have with the LAAT/i is one scene from Attack of the clones just after the clones and their gunships rescue the Jedi from the arena, just after Anakin directs the pilot to fire on the fuel cells of a Hardcell ship, he spots Count Dooku and tells the pilot to fire on him. The pilot says he can't because they ran out of missiles Even if that's true, the ship still has two chin mounted cannons, two door gunners, four wing mounted turrets, two dorsal mounted mass drivers and a tail gunner, not to mention all of the clones inside with their own blaster rifles to shoot at him Were THEY dead as well Also, how the hell do the clones and Jedi able to stay inside with just those subway style ceiling handholds holding them in? PLOT Armour. In truth they never show a laat use all its weapons because they are overpowered.
@Lazarultos Жыл бұрын
That's definitely a plot hole they didn't even try to address. The only possible explanation I can think of is that the Gunships had a limited power source and they were going at full speed just to keep up with Dooku (if they could go faster they would've tried to outrun and cut him off), meaning if the pilot redirected energy to the ball turret lasers and the chin blasters, they would have to reduce Engine speed and power, which would cause them to lose the pursuit of Count Dooku if they missed. Rockets/Missiles on the other hand would be a quick burst of power to launch and then that was it. Still, you shouldn't have to rely on fans thinking of explanations and theories to explain apparent gaps in logic. If my explanation was correct, it could have easily been solved with a quick exchange of "What about the blasters?!" and "We'll lose speed if we power them up. The target will get away" and then Obi-Wan ordering them to maintain pursuit.
@dragonweyr44 Жыл бұрын
@@Lazarultos The problem with that is that, as far as I can tell, the ship and the blasters use two completely different types of fuel sources as far as I can tell Blasters run on tibana gas, this applies to hand blasters all the way up to ships turbolasers. These are stored in magazines. I don't know what type of fuel that ships run on but I don't think that it is but I seriously doubt that it is tibana gas as we have seen plenty of ships in Star Wars fire their weapons while flying, Just watch any X-Wing vs. TIE fighter battle for instance, or any of The Mandalorian's space battles. I have the LAAT Toy and I love it, it reminds me of black hawk or Vietnam era Huey

Another well thought out and scripted video. Never get tired of these. Keeps the geek in me up to date....Always Loved the RGS....I am hearing a difference in Geetsley's voice lately. He sounds much more refined, and has picked up his vocal pace.....Slow down bro....easy does it. We want our 33LP voice back.... you've gone 45 😆😂.

There are two variants of the LAAT, the ones seen in AOTC and ROTS and the ones seen TCW. Movie versions got turrets on both sides, 1 part doors on both sides and extra openings on both sides, while TCW version lacks the turrets, has 2 part doors on both sides and lacks the openings.

I really want to see one of these repurposed as a bounty hunter ship in rebellion era, perhaps by a surviving clone like rex and his walker. It is big enough to fit a hyperdrive and living quarters while being very robust, unlike shuttles and small freighters.

The LAAT/i is when you take an oversized binder clip and make it into a science fiction Hind.

Great vid Geetsly, I really like the design of the LAAT/I. I'm curious as to why the Empire stopped using gunships.

The laat/i gunship could carry more troops than a u-wing, and the tie reaper, and the imperial shuttle still cool ships though.

What is the difference between a blaster and a constant beam weapon? Is there a performance penalty to using constant beam, because it seems to be more effective than slow moving bolts in hitting targets - and it would be a nightmare for Jedi to block/reflect … not a bonus for the GAR, well, not initially. … …

The scene where the clones show up in ATC is the most badass scene in and star wars movie and it’s largely due to the LAAT

Well, I was hoping you’ll be covering the LAAT/c before covering the AT-TE. I’m also pondering about the 3rd LAAT variant which was specifically designed for combat & not transportation whatsoever…

I miss flying these things in battlefront. Air support and drop off some troops to capture a command post.
