15:40 If CGI industry is to be believed, that is indeed the way forward - rendering at relatively low resolutions and letting the AI upscale it at a "fixed" cost (as opposed to the variable per-pixel cost of actually rendering at higher resolutions). I can tell you one thing, my render times have been reduced one order of magnitude thanks to AI-driven denoising, and I wouldn't ever do it "the old way" again ; and although denoising isn't exactly the same as upscaling, it's still essentially the same technology - taking a low amount of (costly) rendering samples and "filling the gaps". I can totally see a future where all games are optimized for 1080p (or less) and offload the upscaling to AI - heck you could render games at 720p or less on potato PC's and upscale with AI, or even do that on laptops when running on battery!
@-yttrium-11874 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Pixel density on output is far more important than having all native resolution source materials. compression algorithms filled in the gap when we weren't able to output entire framebuffers line for line, now denoisers are the next step. And you can always increase the scaling factor if its needed.

@@davidbowl9650 the same way we thought 1080p60fps was the final norm in 2006, right?

RobCXS What I mean, is that as the screens improve they get closer and closer to a real life image. So on a 20 inch monitor the number of people that can tell the difference between 4K and 8k is so small there is no point in upgrading that specific hardware in that particular way. So although the resolution remains the same other things such has colour, brightness to visibility ratio and other technologies that may have not yet been used may be incorporated instead of directly upgrading resolution and FPS. There will of course be available screens with higher res + new additions for the few that would shell out more money for a tiny experience change but for the ‘normal’ that will not be the case. I could be wrong, it could be 8k but I doubt it will go much higher if that.

MSAA 4x essentially allocates 4x more colour and depth buffers, so you need enough VRAM for 4x 8k - which means you were asking for 16k resolution (at 8k shading rate).

I think Valve was using a NASA levels of PC specs when developing the Source Engine. Is so damn incredible that an old game engine can handle 4k-8k (without mods) with less frame drops.

This is the type of GPU benchmarking tech KZbinrs should produce. Not boring graphs with bars and numbers, I want a good explanation on what the card can handle and if it can't, the drawback and how to counter it. Not "it can't run this game, so move on to the next game"

@@2kliksphilip I throughly enjoyed the 2200g review as well. And for a CPU that has a GPU, most people don't see the value and benefits of having such a system. Oh and I think at least 30fps is more than playable (as long as the settings look slightly decent)

8K will be needed for VR but not really for desktop monitors, unless they become TV size. edit: It's all about the Pixels density (PPI). And the distance from your eye. Even more basic; how many *Pixels per Field Of View* (FOV in arcsec)
