I had a MX 420.. It wasn't nearly as fast. I had it paired with a socket 423 1.5ghz Pentium 4. There was a lot of 22-25fps game playing in those days for me. 😁

MX 420 is not very common. But the performance is terrible. Pretty much like 64-bit MX 440 SE. I have one of those and it is on par with the original GeForce 256 SDR. :)

@@hardwaremuseum3532: Well it depends where you hail from, in my region germany and austria in 2000/01, the local discount chains and some of the electronics discounters (aldi, hofer, lidl, cosmos, mediamarkt, saturn,...) sold a whole line up of varying configured machines. Ranging from Athlon Xp 2500+ with radeon 9700's to garbage potatoes like mine, an Athlon 2200+ with a gf4 mx420 and 256mb ram. In the weekly fliers, you had top machines, mix and match machines and last but least, the ugly bottom of the barrel. That continued until 02, when OEM became more quality. So I believe, msi and a few others, dumped their whole stock of gf4 mx420s and mx440s onto the european discount market. A friend of mine also had such a garbage potatoe pc with a p4 1.8ghz but a radeon 7500, man was I jealous.

Why dont you show gpu utilization in your OSD?
@hardwaremuseum35322 жыл бұрын
GeForce4 doesn't report GPU utilization. I thing GF6 series are the first ones to support it. Besides, I seriously doubt GF4 MX would be CPU limited here.

Part of thisvideo does not make sense. How are you running DX9 in half life 2 with those 2 cards when none of them support DX9?
@hardwaremuseum3532 Жыл бұрын
Old builds of Half-Life 2 have DX7, DX8 and DX9 render paths. So GeForce4 MX is supported in older versions and run well enough as you can see in the video.
@tomimontana4141 Жыл бұрын
@@hardwaremuseum3532 DX7 only works in old versions of half life 2 and In new(er) steam versions, the DX 8.1 is the lowest you can go. but that is irrelevant. I am also aware of the fact that you change change renderers in Source engine however, MSI afterburner should display the current selected version of DirectX. But Why does MSI afterburner say that you are running in DirectX9?
@hardwaremuseum3532 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps Afterburner shows the software DX level. Like HL2 - it also reports DX9 in the menu and next to that there is hardware DX level. Which is of course DX7 in this case.
