Yes, I used them as a background on one of my pictures and they worked great. They do take a little getting used to finding the right balance of water to crayon to get that glittery feel to them, but I think I'm getting it now.

Hi Kori, I love the same water brushes you have there, my favorite small water brush is the Derwent #1 it works dry, what I mean is you have to squeeze it to get water and I prefer that over water rushing out and flooding my paper. I love using gelatos dry with a stencil brush and a plastic palette, I scrub the gelato on the plastic palette and scrub the stencil brush on the gelatos then start rubbing the gelatos over my paper or when I want a quick background, the 2 dinky sponges and the cheap brush that comes with the gelatos, I tossed it in my 8 year old granddaughter’s play drawer lol...I will give you a link for the best stencil brushes and a link for a company that sells single gelatos...when using gelatos dry you can add another color over and so on, you can also use a white gelato and rub it over the color you have down already and it will give it splotchy spongey look...have fun and I’m sorry I talked so much, I wanted to give you options...take care Kori 💞🌷

Yeah I use em dry with those finger dabbers and they make beautiful backgrounds.

Karen from "Coloring Art by Karen Valentine" uses these a lot - she's a great person to watch for some tips and tricks. She usually puts them on a palette and then uses a stencil brush to apply them to her page. Great technique because it results in much smoother blends.

Ugh. I wish I had seen that this set went down on Amazon. I ordered the Iridescent set I about a week ago, and now I kind of wish I had ordered this set. I think I like the colors better in this one. Oh well. I will still get this set at some point, maybe sooner than expected. LOL You can get all the open stock on Faber Castell's website. I believe they run about $2.50 a crayon. I have a couple other sets I purchased a month or two ago. The translucent set being one of them. The translucent's are nice subtle, neutral colors - great for backgrounds. I recommend the Caran D'ache palette to put these on. I use this and they really seem to blend nicely on it. I think they are similar to Neocolor, but I like these better. Thanks for sharing!

So Neocolors are water-soluble pastels, while these are gel crayons - similiarish but not the same. Yeah just keep an eye on them on Amazon and wait for them to just drop a little in price. I have alerts so I get notified each time they drop down and can get them for a good price - the only way to shop for these supplies.

Very nice colours - I have not tried the gelatos yet, but they are on my wish list, and I think I might want the neocolor II’s first, but if I spot a deal like you did, I don’t think I could resist 👋🏻🤗👋🏻

Oh I love my Neocolors and don't give them enough attention. Honestly, add everything to your wishlist and wait to see if something price drops. That's my motto. When I say these nose dive, I was like "welp, it's a sign" lol.

They shouldn't be crumbly they are normally soft, I've used them for years. The work better if you gesso a page first and move like water colours

O have some I find at Ross for 4 or 5 dollars I live going to Ross and Burlington n find art supplies. I've not used them yet. Not sure which I bought I stored away cause work took over.
