I turned the camera on while Gelli Printing on fabric. I am using a Honey Bee Set stencil by Folkart. Three different fabrics are used: Multi-Purpose Cloth (MPC), white denim, and an upholstery remnant. Enjoy the art play on fabric!

Being the same age as you I totally get you and L O V E your work!!! Since 5 I have been like you combining art with sewing. I love how authentic, humble, caring, loving, kind, generous and open you are. When I am making my Decadent Digs or like today at home on Easter Sunday with your videos playing one after another while making personal projects you keep me pumped up and are wonderful company. In a world when many live in fear coveting their knowledge you are a breath of fresh air sharing and blessing so many with the ability to share in prosperity on your wonderful ideas!! I love how all your jewelry, clothing, home decor, and accessories all work together. I have been buying all the toys you play with!! I never considered using dies and I love the Inktense!! You are So much fun and you have inspired me to death!!! Thank you so much, Julia!! Hope someday to make it your way! Sending you A MILLION BLESSING to YOU and your Family!!!

Hi Barbara, Your comment has really touched me. Thank you so much for your kind words. It sounds like we have lots in common. I used to hoard my art supplies until I started using them in my sewing projects. For some reason I am more comfortable with fabric than a blank canvas or piece of watercolor paper. I really love sharing my process and this KZbin community has been wonderful. Everyone is so encouraging and creative. Thanks for watching. Have a great week. Julia

Hey Julia! It is so fun watching your videos! You have been such a wonderful positive influence in my crafting life. I have always been hesitant to try new things but I watched your videos about making/creating fabric from scraps and even from threads and I bought the right presser foot and I tried it and it turned out creditable! It wasn't awful and I was so excited! Thank you for such easy-to-follow videos and your encouragement to us to just try things!

Hello Julia, once again a fabulous video. Your imagination knows no bounds. You clearly have been crafting for a long time as the stencils and materials you have far exceed mine. I have got the intense blocks and pencils and I got white denim from a charity shop. (Thrift store). I am having so much fun with postcards and creating new things, because of you. We are visiting Minnesota in July to visit friends in St Paul. If I can visit your flea market I certainly will. Are you able to divulge its whereabouts as your State is huge! All the best until next time x

Hi Julia, I enjoy spending time listening to you, learning from you, and getting inspired by what you are doing and demonstrating. I am so glad that our paths have crossed. KZbin is a strange meeting place, yet I have discovered a few people that I have strong attractions to. It does seem strange to say I have friends all around the world, but I feel more connection to you and a couple other people I subscribe to. Hearing you mention that you are close to 60 surprises me, your energy level and appearance does not reflect your actual age. However, it may be part of the reason I feel such a strong connection with you, like interest and life experiences lived through. I just celebrated my 61st birthday on the 8th. When my grandparents died in their young 60’s, they seemed ancient. I just feel like I’m hitting my stride, and have many years ahead of me. Do you wash your fabric before adding paint? Is there a brand of fabric conditioner that you like over another? By chance do you offer a senior discount for your store? Last question is two parts regarding choice of fabric you like the best to paint on for use in making handbags/coin purses? And what fabric and paint to hold up to washing for using in quilts? Thank you for all your time. I value your thoughts and opinions. I am grateful for your presence in my life. Peace.

Hi Monica, Thank you so much for your comment. I feel like i'm just coming into my stride too! Maybe it's because I'm finally not so concerned what others think :) This whole KZbin experience has been good for me. I now have sewing friends all around the world. To answer some of your questions: I have not experimented with many fabric mediums but I use GAC900 by Golden the most. ( It does need to be heat set) I try to always wash my fabrics before painting especially if the finished project will be washed.Yes, I have a discount code for my Etsy store- SENIOR15 ( it's for 15% off) I use many different fabrics for my pouches and bags. I love adding the "Warm and Natural" quilt batting to the back of the outer fabric. It gives it more body and I like the feel better than an interfacing. I usually line with a light weight cotton fabric. I really haven't experimented a lot with repeated washability, so I'm not sure what to tell you on a good fabric paint for quilting. Many paints are washable if you use a fabric medium and heat set it. Follow the directions on the back of the fabric medium. Most require a medium hot iron and 3-5 minutes of ironing per area. It can seem like a long time. You will have to do some experimenting with the paints. Acrylics are permanent but changes the feel of the fabric. I heard Jacquard makes a good fabric paint but I have not used it. Hope this helps! Have a great weekend! Julia

Hi Julia, I love watching your videos!! I'm new to sewing and u make it look so easy. And it makes me wanna jump in and try new things. I like to make hot pads and I was wondering if the heat and bond lite and some of the permanent pens and paints u do will work. Thank you soo much!! Keep creating!

Hi Amy, I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. The heat-n-bond and permanent inks should work fine on hot pads. I would suggest testing one first, with washability. Thanks for watching! Julia

You will have to give it a try Chris. It's different than paper but you can get some great results. Someone recommended spritzing your fabric with a bit of water before printing. I haven't tried it yet but will give it a go. The paint will probably transfer better. Happy creating! Julia

Love what you've created Julia, I'm definitely going to acquire the bee stencil! I've been gelli printing on fabric for a while now and worked out that more textured fabrics take paint better when I iron freezer paper to the wrong side and also slightly dampen the fabric with a fine spray of water. I guess a diluted fabric medium on the fabric first could work too. Thanks for sharing Julia ❤️

Clever, clever, clever. Honey comb and a bee. Great idea! We are getting cold, wet rainy days after a spell of perfect days. It came across Lake Michigan from your direction. Not good weather for setting up or working in your little week end shop. The high today was only 46 and windy! I enjoyed how casually you worked with your colors. I should receive the large gel pad, hopefully tomorrow...and I already have the gessoed canvas and am dying to play.. I'll have to dig up your tutorial on inserting a zipper while I'm waiting. Also have to check my zipper supply. Thanks for an enjoyable video.

Hi Phyllis, Spring is definitely long in coming this year! We will have nice weather for a couple of days then back to cold and wind! Typical MN! You are going to have so much fun with the large plate. I am so glad I spent the extra and got the big one. If you ever need zippers, I get mine from : www.etsy.com/shop/zipit . It's a great Etsy shop and they're from Wisconsin. Inexpensive and quick shipping. Have a great weekend and thanks for commenting! Julia

stitchesbyjulia Hi Julia, We are very lucky to have a wonderful warehouse that sells discounted art and crafts supplies at amazing savings. They get their stock from discount stores and so can sell their supplies at low prices. I never know what I'll pick up there because their inventory will vary. They sometimes have a bin of zippers of all sizes. It's like Tuesday Morning on steroids. :-). Years ago, we visited a friend in Owatana MN. It's located in a beautiful part of the state .....So pretty.

How do you keep your Gell plates clean?
@stitchesbyjulia
@stitchesbyjulia 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Phyllis, I first take as much paint off as possible using scrap paper or tags. These will be used in other projects. Then I use paper towels and water to clean off the remainder. I sometimes use baby wipes. The GelliArt site also recommends Purell hand sanitizer. Also, if you have dried paint on your plate, you can place clear packing tape (sticky side down) and pull it up. Hope this helps! Have fun. Julia
