What a beautiful project idea. I have one question though, if you don’t mind: The stitch outlining you did around the flowers and tree…is that considered free motion embroidery, or free motion quilting? To be honest, I don’t even know the difference. It seems confusing, but you seem to have more control over your lines than I see in free motion embroidery. Thanks.😊
@stitchesbyjulia9 сағат бұрын
Hi- good question! I would consider this a free-motion appliquéd technique. Free--motion embroidery is when you are using the thread to create your design. For instance if I free-motion stitched an outline of a flower and then filled it in with thread. Hope this helps- I agree it's confusing!

So creative- You’re a true artist. I’m left handed too so, your demos are perfect. Sometimes it’s hard to follow someone who is doing a demo right handed- especially crochet. I cut with scissors with my right hand , looks like you do too. 👍

Julia, i like the way you twisted the fabric strips together, I used just a single strip on mine = I have a video . One thing if you get a wonky sides to your basket, just add a thin metal strip to sop edge that is covered with small beads, then you can shape the top edge of the basket in different ways. I have a few videos on it but here is the short one with beading. kzbin.info/www/bejne/anameniNrpWtjcU

Hi Pam, Thank you so much for your comment. I just watched your video. I love this idea and will try it on my "wonky" basket. lol

Love this, Julia. The basket is gorgeous and beautifully organic/funky. Don’t think I can manage the twisted fabric strip rope, but I’m going to try color dying cotton clothesline rope and then playing with different thread colors and fiber inclusions. Thanks for the huge inspiration. 👏👏👏👏🥰

The first time I tried this, I used a smaller sized clothesline chord, without the wrapped fabric, intending to sew a bag. The shaping got away from me so I ended up creating an oblong basket. I love it and have received many compliments. I would like to try again using this wrapped fabric method. Thanks, Julia❤
@stitchesbyjulia2 күн бұрын
I have used clothesline cord in the past. It takes some experimenting to get the shape you want. Someone suggested adding wire around the top to keep the shape. The wire could be covered with fiber or fabric strips. Another mentioned dying the clothesline cord-so many possibilities!
@SK-ki1te2 күн бұрын
I made a very useful plain clothes line cord basket once with a lid and colored threads. So proud of myself! The handle is a beautiful bulky art button I had. I hope to try this twisted fabric cord method to use up my random scraps. Love the idea of shoving in little clumps of color! Thx!
