What is the best battery for a GEM Car? All GEM Cars require deep cycle batteries. Early model GEM Cars (Two and Four seaters) use six 12 volt deep cycle batteries with amp hours ranging from 100 ah to 150 ah. Costco, Walmart and other inexpensive "marine" type batteries will not last under the load the GEM requires.

After 2002 GEM Cars were issued with six Grp 31, GEL deep cycle batteries in series for 72V system.
Around 2013 GEM became a 48V car with two battery configurations:
1. Four 12V AGM deep cycle batteries with capacity of 120 to 140 Ah, Note 12V 150Ah AGM batteries will fit in battery compartment and offer more range
2. Eight 6V AGM deep cycle batteries with capacity of 210 to 225Ah
Now DCB has been installing one 51V lithium iron phosphate into the old battery compartment. A new lithium charger must be installed. The new lithium battery is issued with a new battery fuel gauge as the OE gauge is inaccurate with the new lithium battery.

I've been watching your videos regarding the GEM Car battery options and was wondering what your recommendation would be today for a 2002 E2 Gem car. My car will not fully charge and I receive a "2 blink" fault code at the charger which from what I understand is it's telling me a that my battery bank is too weak to complete the charge. Please advise. Thank you, Tom

How much are your batteries? Do you offer a Lithium conversion option? Lastly, can you offer a link that explains how to reset the onboard charging system to accommodate AGM batteries? Thanks

At moment, flooded 12v 130ah DC run $199 ea. Interesting note is we attempted to install six 12v 100ah lithium in gem car. Fail. The onboard BMS in each battery do not like being connected in series. So we are looking for another option.

I know this is an older video, but I have a question regarding battery type. I know they recommend GEL batteries but would a GEM car still work with AGM batteries? They are much cheaper and easier to find where I live.

You bet AGM will work in the gem car. The gem car has an onboard charger and it must match the AGM battery for a charging profile.

Can you test you gem cart without batteries, i explain, if i put the car in jacks ans plug a 72-75 volt wire that should make this car go, the reason why im asking i just bought it ans I don't want to spend money iin find out that was not the problem.. let me know thx

a 81VDC power supply will power on the electronics so you can test the function

Daon3nug go to gem dealer.for optimum results...if in Diego..dont use the guy this shop reccomends..use CART MART

If water levels are low, what do you recommend filling with? Distilled water?

yes, but only fill to cover the plate, cap it, charge it, then add more water
