Reading Promethea is definitely an experience. I bought all the trades a few years ago and every year since I take a few days to re-read the whole series as sort of a refresher on accessing my own personal pathway through the Immaterium. Deep, heady stuff.

That series sounds pretty big in scope but sounds like a mind expanding experience about concepts beyond human perception and the universe as a whole. If I see a TPB, I might have to pick up the first volume. Great video Gem 💎

Who the hell hit the thumbs down? Morons. Seriously, this is your best recent reads yet. Glad you stuck with it and like it. I think Alan Moore is the only true genius comics has produced. You might want to check out his other America's Best Comics stuff. I'm sure you have Top Ten absolute, but there's also 2 deluxe Tom Strong books, and a few other small trades and HC's. They're all good too.

I'm a lucky bastard: I found the absolute Promethea trilogy at 290 euro's in 2018, NEW! You'll never get that anymore now... It's J.H. Williams art that make it worth, seriously!

I just watched Gems top 10 reads of 2018 and came here immediately and saw your comment almost first thing. So damn jealous. Screw the tpb. I want the versions I can share with my kids one day.

Hear any rumors of a deluxe/omni coming out for Promethea? Like you said, the going prices for the Absolutes (aside from vol 3) are stupid. The cheapest I found vol 1 was $400 over cover. I don't mind paying past the cover price for OOP books, but not at that range. I can grab several current omni's/deluxe/library editions with that cash, lol.
@GemMintCollectibles6 жыл бұрын
Viola Blue I hear that. Na, I HAvnt heard anything about reprints. Can always go the tpb route.

Definitely Promethea is really good I really enjoyed I'm up the volume to now and I'm like I've stopped for a little bit but so far red it's really dope story I see why a lot being talked about it I mean it was just mind-boggling at time for some of the things that Alamo was able to accomplish when the context of the story I would only say that I enjoy this a lot more in my personal opinion then Watchmen there I said it I thought it was a much more better script a story in a much more intriguing story and it was just the weight of the subject matter for me.

Relatively new to the channel (I subscribed within the past few weeks), so I'm getting caught up on some of the older episodes. You've got thousands of subscribers so I can't expect you to read all the comments, so I'll try to keep this shorter than the comment I made about your outstanding Absolute Swamp Thing by Alan Moore (vol 1) review. In fact, I'm going to pay you a couple of compliments and then call you out for something that you've done that really disappoints me - read on (if you have the time). Ok, like every one of your episodes, you are extremely personable, insightful, and are likely to inspire your viewers to check out the books and statues you feature - I'm 55 and grew up with DC and Marvel and really have moved onto the independents but you have really got me excited about several key Marvel and DC books I had passed up (Geoff Johns DC work, Hickman's House of X and related new X-titles, etc). I've never owned a statue but I ordered Berserk (again based on you and Phie's review), and if I like it I'm gonna try to get a Guts fro my first statue. Ok, and then there's your Promethea review... Gem, you say in this episode that you're not a very intellectual guy but you followed the concepts and embraced them along with the philosophy, etc. This is probably the deepest, most comprehensive and accurate review of such a complex work that I've ever read. I know you're all cool, etc., but your analyses were on the level of an academic. I also know that you read a lot of stuff, but you clearly pay close attention to the narrative. Thanks for the great review. I wish Alan would watch this episode, he would have been really proud - while writing Promethea, he said that many readers probably had no idea it was his most personal work. Ok, so here's my issue - in another episode you said that you've never had an issue collecting something and then letting it go, but that your omnibuses (and presumably Absolutes) you like to keep b/c of the longevity/reading value. Of course there will be the exceptions, that occasional book that you decide to let go. But did it have to be Promethea? WTH? How could you have sold your Prometheas of all the books in the GEMPIRE? Especially after such a solid review? Stay minty!
@GemMintCollectibles4 жыл бұрын
wow man thanks for the compliments...i guess sometimes i feel like what im reading is "smarter" than me, but I do like to think i "get it". I did sell these! I guess I figured I probably wouldn't go back and re-read these. Thanks for watching these older videos and taking the time to comment.

Promethia was solid, solid stuff. He took some serious left turns throughout that run. Alan Moore killed all that Americas Best stuff. Top Ten is epic. Can you imagine a Promethia or Top Ten movie? (And, Hey, they OWE us one after the way they shat on celluloid and called it The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Read Fables, I guarantee you'll like it.

I’m such a noob...I watch this vid and check out eBay to buy at least Vol 1 and see a $400 price tag 😭😭 I know I could get the trades but it’s hard to buy them when I know there’s a much better format out there. Fingers crossed I catch a deal on the Facebook group...but I’m betting most collectors don’t wanna let these go.

Great Review, man. Sure this one a fucking tough read, very intimidating and shit, but you reviwed it in an honest and straightforward manner without being pompous or "academic" as some people might think that's the only way of analysing a piece of such complexity. And I'm glad I watched It. Peace
