@@str0027 very true, u know what hate about today's parenting, is the misuse of word "respect". in name of respect they stop u from asking questions. i think parenting class should be made by govt.. 2 classes per month is perfect. good and well-informed parents will make a progressive society thus solving the majority of the nation's problems.

@@str0027 yup u r right parental class should be mandatory. I'm a 26 yr old man, i consider my parents quite respectful towards me, but still i have problems talking to them about sensitive topics like this. and in my friends circle most guys can't ask simple questions to there parents. I can't imagine how tougher it will be for girls, thanks to patriarchy and gender discrimination. the thing is even if children wants to commute with parents in equal plane, most parents don't appreciate. I don't know maybe there ego hurts, or maybe it's hard for them listen that they are some things that they can improve or they don't want to lose power over their children....i don't know, its sucks and for children who are comfortable with not asking questions....i have a very good theory why they are ok😉...

U r absolutely right mam... Honestly even I feel the same...now a days this is the biggest problem with parents...that they don't communicate with their children and doesn't try to make them understand the importance of life and values,morals,ethics... And at the end they blame their children if they get spoiled or doesn't come upto there expectations.. Whose fault is this??? It is the parents who can teach each life lessons to their children so that they can become perfect person in coming future and reflect the grt thoughts and ideologies together....

@Sumeet P If she is an underachiever than almost every person in the world is underachiever. She topped her class, she got job before marrying, she is a lecturer, an author. Just because she is a wife of a billionaire, she is useless? I don't understand your logic. She is doinh fine on her own, also her story is not useless, it is good to teach your kids that just because you parents or you are rich, this doesn't make you great or superior to anyone.

I have treated my maid in this manner - she would sit & eat at our dining table & was treated like a person who has come to work for money ( just like anyone else including me). But , sadly , she failed to remain respectful. This has happened with other maids also. If you treat them with respect & good behaviour they think that you are a soft person & start taking advantage & being rude & very indecent . I have realised that being very offcial & maintaining a distance is the best way to deal with these people . Sadly there is a class jealousy which becomes evident most of the times. If you get some one decent you are lucky .

@@trisha5477 you are really very lucky to have got a decent human being as a maid . The harsh reality is that most of them come from financially very poor backgrounds where the struggle to survive & obtain food & earn a livelihood is very acute. Also, often there is a lack of moral development as these people grow up in non life serving situations where survival by any means , whether foul or crooked , is paramount , & the end result justifies the means , and most of them do not have a healthy , decent up bringing . I have realised this the very hard way as I have been forced to employ ayahs from Centres to look after my infant, being a working mother , and had to face huge problems as ours is a nuclear family with no grand parents alive on either side of our family

@@jonron3805 Well, the definition of "failure in life" it depends on one's priorities. She wanted to cultivate giving nature and not to be over consumed by your wealth, according to the example she gave (sending money to soldiers on his birthday), she succeeded. Just because someone isn't at par with their parents or anyone to that matter doesn't make them a failure. To some, being content with self is a success, to some, being rich or increasing their property by many folds is success.

This is pure PR. Ask Sudha Murthy how many millions were given to Harvard University for getting Rohan the degree? Why was the money given to the university when Rohan Murty was in the university? And what kind of business ethics do the Murthy couple have with respect to Amazon and Cloudtail? They should clarify this to the people..

what she is teaching is social responsibility. Serving ourselves isn't bad. We earn, we spend on ourselves, it's not a bad thing at all. But she's saying that when we have surplus after meeting all our needs, whether we are using that amount to help someone in need or not. That's the message. Spending 50K on ur birthday just because u can isn't bad. If you have the amount, you can surely spend it. But doing that in front of people who have minimum of the amenities doesn't show a good example.

Just saying, it would have been cooler if she still gave him the birthday party he wanted as he agreed to pay others school fees. Privilege doesn't meant not enjoying what you have, it means understanding that what you have comes at a price and effort. Kids can still be empathetic and also enjoy life.

Let them think what they think, you cannot live on people's opinion. You have to live on your opinion sticking into the core values she mentioned. It not only gives a parenting tip but also how to walk with others by treating equality irrespective of caste, creed, profession.....

Every child is unique. Don't call them ordinary. Affects their self esteem. Every birthday is special. Every child has a right to be excited about. Instead of guilting them about donating to others (which is Sudha ma'am's wonderful gesture though) we can say, a birthday is a great way to thank God, and wouldn't you rather do it by spreading happiness.and sharing wealth? Donation should go on year long. Birthdays come once a year. Let kids be kids. In a garden party, home party or even five star party. Sudha ma'am, great thought and admirable groundedness. I just don't completely agree. Thank you
