I went gold and gem grubbing in Dahlonega years ago on a school trip, many great finds, but I realized the best finds are the ones you find out in the actual river banks, the element of being out in the wilderness makes it that much more engaging and enjoyable.

I go camping in this area when I can get away from West Palm Beach. There are a lot of short vids you can view to help you in the panning process. But the outdoors is so great. Just have fun.

Hi Robert it is a lot of fun and that area is some kinda pretty. This was my first try and I see why folks get hooked on this. As your finds start popping up, you do get a bit juiced.

My wife and I like the national forests. There's a nice one in that area. Camping is free. I'm fairly equipped for prospecting but also I'm an avid trout fisherman and again fairly well equipped. It's all about seeing the beauty of nature. We always leave our camp sites cleaner than when we get there. Have a great day and thank you for replying.

I was wondering if you do a lot of traveling in the east. If you love nice area's and want to plan a great trip where you meet great outdoors folks, check out the Cradle of Forestry. Please let me know what you think. I really enjoyed NC and they are more than that. They are in more states as well.

Pisgah National Forest has the water falls which were filmed in Last of the Mohicans in NC. You might enjoy. Not to far away is Cascade Lakes Campgrounds. Also in GA, look up Dicks Creek Falls. About 25 minutes from Gold and Gem..once again it's great to be able to enjoy oneself in nature

You don't explain or even tell where this place is. Only that it's in North Georgia. And that covers a lot of territory. I personally live in North Georgia and I'm only 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.

The video is a few years old and I put the website in the KZbin description. Unfortunately the place didn’t survive Covid, closed and for sale.

@iLoveRVlife KZbin algorithm took that long to hook me up with the video. Oh, that's sad. Keep looking, that's surely not the only place out there. Point is to have fun.

You should next time put the panning inside the water and then do a wash instead of using very little water to remove the dirt off the gems

Some of these polished up really nice. Went to Consolidated Mines in Dahlonega. They have a jeweler who makes some really nice pieces with these stones.

Not for nothing, but that is mica, not gold dust. Gold dust is not going to be sitting on top of the sand, it is heavy and sinks do to the hard pan.

That's not gold dust bro dont waist your time gathering it.its probably flakes of pyrite or something similar. If there was actually that much gold there there then there would be a new gold rush like you've never seen.

Thanks a bunch. We’ll try again. Spent some time with a fellow in Dahlonega this summer who has panned since a boy. Showed me some tips. I’ll make a better run at it next go round.
