The biggest problem of this 737 MAX lies in the mould. We’ll see it clearly when compared to JC’s brand new 737 model, such as this Dragonair 737-200.
I'll review this Gemini AA 737 MAX 8 in 10 categories. It comes with Gemini’s standard black box packaging for smaller models. It’s very easy to open and has very good protection for the model. I'll give a 9. This model comes with magnetic landing gear and this small tripod stand. Sadly, the nose gear door cover can’t sit in perfectly. So, it looks a bit awkward. I’ll give an 8.
This brand new Gemini 737 MAX mould is fair. The 737’s iconic features such as its narrow body, the unique tail, the narrow wings and the AT winglets all look very realistic. The quality is as good as other Gemini’s 737 variants’. Yet if we look closely, you’ll find the head and nose are too round and look strange. It’s so clear when we put it side by side with JC’s brand new 737 mould such as this Dragonair 737-200. Gemini’s mould is clearly inferior to JC’s. I'll give the mould a 7.
This pair of CFM LEAP-1B engines are nicely made. It has recreated the flat bottom and the see-through core. Yet the fan blades can’t spin. The chevrons at the rear look very nice. The engine pylons are correctly made. I’ll give a 7.
The build of this model is very good. All angles and positions are correct. The engines are well aligned and have very good ground clearance. The wings and the horizontal stabilizers are very well attached. But because of the mould design, there are irritating gaps at the vertical stabilizer attachment. But it’s still acceptable to me. I'll give a 9.
It’s very easy t o install this 737 MAX’s landing gear. The nose gear wheels are very detailed but its gear leg is too bulky. The wheels on the main gears are made too far apart. I’ll give a 7. The major aerials, navigation lights, and SATCOM are well made by inserted parts. All the small devices are accurately printed on the nose. This iconic 737 APU exhaust looks very nice. All doors are finely printed. But the landing lights on the wings and on the nose gear leg are only presented by printing. I’ll give an 8.
All the sizes, typefaces, and positions of the AA livery elements are correctly recreated. The AA billboard title looks fabulous. The eagle logo and the American flag tail are very nicely reproduced. I’ll give a 9.
AA’s unique space grey fuselage is very well made on this model. The colouring looks very realistic. The complicated gradient effects on the eagle logo and on the American flag tail are very well made. All small prints are very finely made. I’ll give a 9.
This 737 MAX model has been highly sought after in the North American market. Yet given that it has a far from perfect nose, once Gemini releases a new revised edition with a new mould like JC’s, the resell prices of these first generation products will drop for sure. So, I’ll only give a 7.
I’ll give this AA 737 MAX a total of 80 points in my ARAIG Index.
