Don't like staedler. Love Crayola. Found 12 Bic at Aldi. Crappy. Don't know about the other one.

My daughter has a set of Crayola. It's the most popular cheap brand in the USA, but she drops them A LOT, and then when she sharpens them, the tips fall off. Also, we've had problems with the barrels splitting when sharpening them. I have been researching which brands would be better. I bought a set of "caran d ache supracolor II soft" when I was in college 20 years ago and I had no idea about brands back then. They were not expensive back then either. It was a set of about 24-32. It came as a single layer tin. Anyway, those work really well still. But, I see that they are really expensive now.

Nice video! When I was a kid, in the 80's, Staedler Noris were amazing. Of course being at elementary school I didn't work in a professional way like you, but I remember them painting easier than other brands I had and having a good color payoff. And it was not only my memories, they were! because I looked for my old drawings and colors were strong! Sadly quality decayed, I got a box of them like 10 years ago and ended up donating them. Last year I got a box of Giotto, wich are easy to get in Argentina, and those were cheap and amazing, worked very good like Staedler noris used to 30 years ago.

I think the Noris is a children’s pencil. The Staedtler Design Journey is what you should have gotten.

Agree, I just picked up 12 Design Journey for $3, and they seem identical to Goldfabers for a fraction of the price.

Crayola are children's pencil crayons too, as are the Bic.

When I first started I tried Crayolda, Prang, Loew Cornell, Sargent. Crayola to this date is my number 1 student quality product, Prang too has good quality student merchandise. Sargent has a good variety of CP colors but the chroma is not particularly good. Loew Cornell, despite their name, was a disappointment. I later bought Staedtler Norris. When I bought them they were not so cheap, a total disappointment. My recommendation, when trying out a new medium start with a good student quality brand, if you like it you can always upgrade to more expensive art material.

Hi, I use cheap pencils - I've bought expensive ones too - the best ones I've found no one seems to even know about! They're Daubigny set of 72. Think they're made by Pheonixcolor. I paid £14 no p&p. They go on like butter, soft but strong also. They look cheap, they feel cheap, they are cheap - but lovely to use! Would love you - or any real artist, to review them. There are so many of us needing good but affordable supplies! Thanks for your videos, find them really helpful 😀

So true on the affordable supplies. There are many baby boomers (such as myself ) that are on a fixed income. Many KZbin videos make one feel that they cannot reap the joy of creating art unless they take out a second mortgage on their home. Lindsay the Frugal Crafter put it really well in one of her videos - “ if all you have is mustard and catsup to create , use it!” The joy is in the creating .

I have a 36 color set of Crayolas and a small sketch pad I drag around with me in a small pencil case so I can have some co!or in my hands anywhere, on the bus, waiting for lunch to be served, and so on. I love the colors offered. The slate and the bronze yellow are incredibly useful mixers. The pigments are strong, they don't break too easily, they blend a good many very light layers to create new colors, which I love to play with. The darker colors fade too fast. They are very waxy when they have layered to the top, and burnish very shiny waxy too. But they took a gentler Derwent blending pencil very nicely. I am glad to carry them around like a hobby kit so I am always ready to play colors. So far, my best good pencils are Derwent Chromaflow, and I love them. Wanting to get the Derwent Drawing and start doing simple naturescapes.

i ended up going down a rabbit hole, Looking and reviewing on Amazon and KZbin...... So in 2021 so grabbed some Faber-Castell Polychromos 60set from Art Discount, I can.not draw,to save my life .I am learning to color in, and leaning that . Your Art is so Brilliant

I got the noris pencils a few years ago as they were so highly recommended for adult colouring books 😳 I have no idea why anyone would recommend them! I put them in a charity bag and bought a small set of Derwent colour soft pencils.

I just purchased the BIC 36 set and they are definitely not as good as the FaberCastell Black Edition pencils. They feel a bit dry and the layering ability isn’t great. I’ll probably give them to my grand grand.

Paper is by far the more important component, but overly cheap (in terms of quality) pencils aren’t much fun.
