I can’t tell you enough that the video content you create is really top notch for beginners. I so wish that I would have known about you when I first started using colored pencils. You just explain everything so well and it’s the information that I always wish I could find but it wasn’t really taught by many artists on KZbin in such a detailed step by step process. So thank you for rocking your socks off!

Thank you! I often have difficulty “seeing” the different colors in my reference. This process of layering and comparing what color is missing is very helpful. I will be practicing this w various objects in my house as well. Thank You Gemma!

Thank you for a great video Gemma! I´ve been painting and drawing my whole life, but I didn´t start colored pencils game until a year ago. I´ve of course used to mix colors on a palette, because of all that painting I´ve done. I´ve still got my old pencils from my childhood, whitch I used very little then. Luckily they´re kinda good quality and I just went and bought a few colors to add on my collection. I like drawing bright flowers so I need those striking colors.🌺🌷🏵

I wonder if you have any suggestions about lighting. Even natural lighting from a window is going to vary by time of day, direction of the exposure like north vs. west, and things like that. What do you like to use when you work? You are making such wonderfully subtle discrimination among the tones in that bagel toy, how was the light helping you?

Hi, do you use to thinning your paint when layering? Your pastel seem more fluid than normally is, or do you cover the paper with thinning medium? Thanks

The paper you recommend is Bristol Board. Is there different weights and surface textures?
@GemmaChambersArt Жыл бұрын
There are different textures - I usually recommend the smooth paper. I find the pencil is much easier to control than on the more textured paper, but it's still possible to get a lot of layers. The Bristol Board I use is 240gsm which I believe is the standard :)

Do you people use blender etc pencils on your drawings? I use Polychromos,should I get the Detwent Blender and their burnisher,please? Is it going to work with polys and more than that, is it essential?
@ynaartsasyouliveandbreathe3533 Жыл бұрын
Not essential. But I'd recommend the Caran D'Ache blender, it's the best i've used so far. The Derwent blender has a grey tint to it which mutes my colours and makes me very unhappy. The burnisher is your choice. I would normally burnish with the last latyer of colour and save myself the extra couple of dollars. Happy drawing!

Was that Strathmore Bristol Velum used on cherries please? Thanks

I use a smooth Bristol Board rather than something more textured like Vellum - Strathmore Bristol Smooth is what I always recommend
