Thank you, this is one of the best tutorials I have seen on using watercolour pencils!

Thank you, this is a great explanation of building up color.

Could you finish with color pencils on top of your activated watercolor pencils rather than watercolor pencils inactivated?
@almas.25303 ай бұрын
Of course, you can. Especially if both pencils match, like Polychromos and Albrecht Dürer do. I learned this technique from Wendy Hollender. She’s an artist who combines these pencils for botanical art with magnificent results.

It was good to see it come together after the muddy stage. That'll probably be when I'd give up and sulk 😊 it's looks tactile

Thank you so much for this tutorial, you are such an inspiration, i really enjoy colouring and drawing and want to get into water colour pencils but have a very limited budget. I have been gifted a set of 40 caran d'ache supracolor soft pencils. I wondered if you had had any experience with these pencils, and what your opinion is of them, what sort of results i might acheive with practice. So far they seem really nice to layer and blend colours.

This is terrific, Gemma, thank you. Quick question-do you work on Bristol or Hot Press watercolor paper with the watercolor pencils?
@GemmaChambersArt3 ай бұрын
Hot Press works best for me. My Bristol just goes wavy and ruined when activating
@artonthecreek3 ай бұрын
@@GemmaChambersArt I suspected that was the case, thank you.

Great tutorial, well explained. You've achieved a wonderful effect. Not being an experienced watercolourist and not having used watercolour pencils, I'm wondering ... can you use the watercolour pencils over watercolour and viceversa? I realise the watercolour would activate once water is applied? I'm going to practise your technique with just the pencils but curious to know whether pallet watercolour would have any benefit?

Given you have used unactivated pencil as the top layer, would you seal it after to prevent it being activated by moisture? And if so, what would you use to do so? Thank you

What kind of fixative do you use on these watercolour pencil drawings, if any?
@GemmaChambersArt3 ай бұрын
I don't use fixatives, they either go straight into archive or framed behind glass

You're very talented. I need some advice. I have prismacolor and have worked with them only over the past bit. I want to experiment with something new. What other pencil out there will give me a totally new experience on the artist level?
@ovvierazones3 ай бұрын
Faber Castell polychromos are probably what most people would recommend. They're more expensive but definitely completely different than prismacolors... Much harder pencils, quite the learning curve but gorgeous once you get the hang of them. If you don't want to spend that much, prismacolors has a verithin line which are harder too. They also have a line of watercolor pencils like those in the video. If cost ain't no thang then caran dache supracolor, Pablo or luminance are super high quality and beautiful too. Supracolor double as watercolor too! Derwent is another pencil make that people enjoy although can't say I do.... I mention them because they're cheaper than those I've mentioned already and also have the harder leads vs prismacolors and lots of choices, and like I've said, very popular too. Goodluck and have fun!
