Behold… the product of all my free time over the Independence Day weekend. I actually finished Sunday, but I was not happy with how this video turned out and ultimately decided to delete it and move onto the next thing. Well, that all changed just now when I decided on a whim to go through with the upload for the heck of it. I put too much work into it to throw it away lol.
I did already make a video of my first Rocky 4 years ago (you can see it here: • Gemmy Rocky the Singin... ), but needless to say there have been some updates. I’m not going to go over the details on that lobster again, you can still read the full story in the original video description. I actually got the second lobster shown in the video before the third, and it came from an antique mall for $12 on November 12th, 2023. I didn’t really want another Rocky, but I decided to buy it for two reasons: it came with the box, and it came with the 2 little antenna things that stick off the front of the head which my other was missing. I later stole them to use on my original Rocky, as you can see in the video lol. Anyway, that one was just dirty and needed both motor shaft gears replaced, and it was good to go.
The last one shown in the video came from Goodwill on September 6th, 2023 for like $5. I believe it’s a first gen, but I’m not an expert on these things. Besides all the obvious physical differences, it also uses an entirely different mechanism inside. Unfortunately, that one was shattered internally when I first got it, and all the remaining plastic is extremely brittle. The mech case itself actually snapped in 3 spots while I was working on it, and after a couple attempts to glue it back together, it still works like crap. With him being my least favorite of the 3 I have, I’ll admit I gave up on him pretty early lol, but that would be a different story if he was my only lobster. He does have a unique little glitch in the beginning of “Sea Cruise” though, which I’ve always thought was cool. He makes that exact noise every time at that exact point in the song, and you can hear it at 3:40. Still, he’s much better than he was when I got him. I cleaned some really heavy corrosion from the battery compartment, circuit board, and adapter jack, plus I replaced both motor shaft gears.
I’m not planning to keep all 3 of these guys, but I’ve put way too much thought and effort into deciding which one stays. I think I want to hang on to my first one. He has solid plastic claws rather than rubber like my other two, which is just interesting to me. I also love his low pitch. But above all, his face is just perfect. The mouth even closes all the way, which seems to be rare for these things. That being said, I could still be convinced to turn towards one of the other two... which lobster would you keep?
Thanks for checking out the video! Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think in the comments, and I hope to see you again soon!
