Can't wait to see you facet some of that opalite. You got a great deal on that lemon quarts are stones here in the U.S. are a lot higher. Even the synthetic is a lot higher here.

Not as many rough gems at shows here- many that I buy are on internet.-looks like that was a fair price because you can pick it out.

this may not be exactly on topic, but I wasn't sure where to post my question: I've just come across a beautiful video of yours in which you polish/facet quartz. I've got some questions about faceting quartz, but since that video is a few yrs old I wasn't sure if posting a question there was the right thing to do. My question is: how unavoidable is "windowing" in faceted quartz of 140-200ct?... I saw some faceted quartz in that carat range, but they had fairly large windows (you can read newspaper through it). I was told that to preserve the size of the stone windowing sometimes is unavoidable. And that some other characteristics of raw quartz limit what kind of faceting it can take and make windowing unavoidable. But then some other ppl told me that windowed faceted quartz comes primarily from "3rd world countries" where they do not follow faceting standards strictly (.e.g., Refractive index, critical angle etc.). Could you share your thoughts/experience on this?... I'd appreciate it very much as this info seems so hard to come by. Maybe, you could do a vid on right and "wrong" faceting etc?... Thank you very much!!!

There were some beautiful crystals and gems at that show, was great to look round with you cliff. I think your prices are very good there and you bought some good pieces. That yappy dog was annoying tho. Thank you for sharing your trip

I’d say that the price is definitely good on the lemon quartz. I wouldn’t have been able to stick to my budget in there, either. Nice haul!

I'm still well, but family commitments and work has gotten in the way of faceting and prospecting.

Opalite is man made. no such thing as natural opalite. Those barking dogs made me think you were in the Philippines, lol.
@VintageTimeGems2 жыл бұрын
Your probably correct. I do recall seeing potchy crystal opal back in the 80's that was known a common opal and it looked the same. I was told it was natural by the seller, but these days you never know?

In comparison to UK prices you are getting an absolute bargain, very very jealous.
