Ive been an early gen 6 enthusiast before the bike even dropped as a shop employee. I was probably one of the first to get my hands on the actual production model and its amazing. After fixing the chain drop issue i have literally zero issues with the bike besides its bontrager components (i broke the rear wheel in like 3 weeks and built my own but trek did warranty the wheel) it angers me to see all the comments from people that haven’t owned or even seen the bike because really the second you get on a gen 6 the bike speaks for itself. Its like judging a book by its cover but not actually seeing the book in person and going off of a random comment you found on it on a reddit forum. To the people that blindly hate just get out and ride on the bike before you make some degrading comments that have no basis.

Right off the bat. I did a review of the bike with a friend, Projectnortheast right here on KZbin, we rode at highland mountain bike park and we didn’t have a single chain drop issue. Zero. None. That said it was only 1 day. But on j my y forbidden Druid v2 and dreadnought I have never dropped one in 6 months.

Personally, I did not experience any chain drop issues. Climbing was surprisingly good and the down sections speak for itself, truly was incredible to ride. Most people need to chill with the hate. If you have not ridden a bike, don't comment on it. If you don't like a brand just for the sake of saying you don't like it, your opinion is invalid. Bikes and products need to be ridden and tested meticulously before an educated opinion can be thoughtfully made. Though the passion out there is wicked, it needs to be directed properly. The fact that most people complaining about, arguably a minor issue that DID NOT happen to MOST riders, is silly. Especially since most of the hate is coming from online comments. Trek came out with a respectful and quick response to alleviate future issues and for that, I applaud them. Riders, get out there and demo bikes, try different things, find what suits YOU! Don't jump on the band waggon of aggression! Now get out there and smile people!

AGREED. I have had the last 5 Gens of Slash and this bike is absolutely next level. I have ridden it everywhere from CO to Bellingham to Oaxaca without a single dropped chain... To that point I really think it's because of the updated chainline on T-Type as I am running X01 Mechanical. I am not sure how the Specialized Enduro can still be held as the bar for high end enduro bikes after this being released. Go ride your bike.

I demoed one and the chain dropped on me 3 times in one afternoon. The two mechanics at my local Trek Factory store do not Even Ride treks , one’s on a Specialized Enduro the others on a Yeti. So I mean …. Yeah lol

Great review and a great looking bike! While it shouldnt of happened its good that they have finally squashed the issue with the chain dropping and theyll be sorting it for those that bought one! People absolutely love to hate Trek, i cant imagine forbidden would get the same hatred, the druid i borrowed off a friend dropped a chain on every single descent at my local and the fix was an aftermarket pulley and race guide from some Canadian company for about £150 😂 they even stock it themselves now as an upgrade.

I looked at the HD6 but it’s so pricey just like the Trek. Both will range up to 12k for a full spec with the top components. I went with a YT Capra Uncaged 11. It’s a mullet with long travel (170mm front and rear) and it’s full out spec’d with top components. The price is half and I’m sure it’s right up there in performance with the Slash and HD6 🚲🚲🚲

Thanks for being honest. I saw Pinkebike’s bike of the year video yesterday and I couldn’t believe they portrayed the chain dropping as an easy fix that some spacers will solve, when Trek is still acknowledging that they will release a newer solution. I know KZbin channels need money from supporters and I imagine bike brands are major contributors, but I think that their is a line that is crossed when you lie so bluntly.

Unacceptable. But I was scared away from Trek due to so much troubles, failures, bad assembly, and now this. The bike might be fixed and might be decent now, but still won't buy one. And with warranty experience I've had in Norway, if same people work there I might not get warranty if something is wrong. So no thx. Was told bad things about Gt too.

Dude they are just disappointed in treks lack of effort to fix engineering issues the right way instead of knock blocking it or sending chain line spacers "free of cost" this is something they should have tested caught and improved upon before product release instead of collecting 4k from a bunch of customers for an unfinished product. I purchased the bike (GX) coming from a 2021 Enduro after demo'ing the bike the 4 rides. It does everything better than the Enduro imo. Some upgrades I did, bar/stem, HS-2 Rotors, Tires, 180mm debonair+ spring, 210mm Oneup dropper. Those upgrades really make the bike top notch. SRAM releasing the new Maven brakes fairly soon so I might upgrade that but the new Codes (levers) feel stronger than the previous generation.

Once you try a decent brand you'll realise how shit they are. I went from top spec sram that came withy bike to TRP and it's ridic how much better they are. 2 years in with them and I've bled them twice and are unreal. Trust me get sram to fuck haha

@@jordanmackay3568 People just don't know how to set Sram up. I have Code RSC's and they are absolutely phenomenal. The guys at the shop I work with have the new hopes and they sing odes about them, yet I find them to have the same, if not less power than my codes. Lever feel is better though, so at least that. MT7's do feel to have a bit more power in my experience, but nothing drastic. And saints are just plain garbage. Haven't tried the Dominion A4's or TRP's, but a well set up pair of codes is still amazing.

Just purchased a Specialized Enduro Expert and upgraded some components and carbon rims and the Trek was the other option. The fact that every review had chain drop was a deal breaker for me. I literally went to the Trek shop and apologize for not buying my second Trek with them as there service was amazing.

The problem is you can watch every KZbin review video on the slash and the chain drop pops up in every video. Paying that much for a problem that great is not worth the risk. This is just my opinion.

First off, I really dig the Descendents themed merch! As for the bike, price is insane, but really the super high end spec was designed for racers who need all the benefits they can get. I think of bikes like phones; everyone suddenly decided that they need the absolute best, highest performance phone possible, to the point that they are now incredibly expensive and way more advanced than 99% of customers will ever need them to be. The great advantage of the free market is that no one is forcing you to choose this bike if you don't want to.

It's a prudent strategy. I got burned buying the 2020 spec enduro when it first came out. Out of spec IS headset cups meant a constantly rattling front end. Then the seatstay cracked (waited a month for warranty). Then the headtube cracked (waited 4 months for a new frame). Apparently they got that frame sorted for 2022-2024 but was a rough go for many early adopters

Thanks very much! We appreciate the kind words. I’d say it is very much dependent on what type of rider and terrain you are on. We mostly rode it in mullet setting as the suspension does so descending the rollover of larger wheel isn’t really “needed”. But it is faster on straight out DH in 29, however it corners and dips and plays a bit better as a mullet… climbing has its own set of pros and cons with each wheel size too.

I have a few questions.. I have this Slash and I run full 29". Why did you have to take off the rear fender? I don't have any interference. Why did you prefer to run the VIVID in the more progressive setting? Did you run the more progressive setting when in full 29"? Thanks in advance!

I was wondering the exact same thing. I also run full 29 on the slash, as well as a 190/170 combo. I also did not have to remove the rear fender with 2.4w maxxis tires. It does look like if you went any wider on a tire it would interfere.

Great looking bike, ticks a lot of boxes for me (geometry, part standards, internal storage, etc). But the weight and lack of rearward axle path keep me from being interested in buying it. 37lbs carbon and 40lbs alloy is simply way too heavy. And what's the point in the drivetrain complexity when it doesn't get the full benefit of RAP? Also, having to spend extra to make it non-mullet is a buzzkill.

I get that Trek is taking it on the nose for this (rightfully so for not paying more attention to this in prototyping) but....Trouble seems to be with the MRP parts needing spec adjustment/larger teeth...is it possible they dropped the ball on the collab parts? An interesting development that we've been hearing/seeing amongst owners as well as athletes is that nobody we've talked to with a Shimano-equipped Slash, including Cameron McCaul, (pro rider who thrashes on his!) is having dropped chain issues. Of course, anyone who has can please comment here, BUT, it seems that SRAM bikes are the ones having issues, possibly AXS ones being most notable.

They are getting these components for even cheaper 100%. How are they justifying this price ? It is legit better to buy the frame and swap shit over if you REALLY want to ride a trek slash. And then they are surprised why canyon, propain, radon ... are pulling numbers when their value proposition is dogwater.

I am a sideline commenter, as I have no interest in purchasing this bike...but FWIW, all I can think is -- geez, what a response. Even if the scope of chain-drop issue is unclear, it IS clear that Trek is having an embarrassing failure, on a very expensive product. And instead of taking responsibility to fix the issue and move on, they have decided to take some responsibility, while simultaneously shifting as much blame as possible to consumers and internet commenters for supposedly blowing it out of proportion, despite the fact that almost every review of the bike notes the issue. Nicely done Trek! From where I stand, the hole you are in just got a little deeper.

Interesting take...We aren't paid by Trek (or any brand) to review bikes as we reserve the right to be as honest as possible in our reviews, but we didn't get that feeling from our conversations with Trek. They wanted to make sure that we did address the fact that people could justifiably feel frustrated by a new, high end bike not performing as it should. And by no means are we defending Trek, or saying they handled things perfectly or that they didn't... We agree that a top-tier, flagship bike should be dialed, and extra care to ensure things can be as close to perfect as possible. However, in assembly, things can get messed up, we've seen it happen to many brands in many industries. We did not see anywhere how they shifted blame to consumers anywhere in their reply or fix. It was an admission that bikes shipped with incorrect spacing, and that these procedures should resolve issues, if not, they're also shipping a redesigned idler pulley with a longer tooth profile. In our opinion that's not telling people they set the bike up wrong, or their bike shop didn't build it right, etc. But we appreciate you sharing your opinion! We've been in the bike industry quite a while so we always welcome opinions from the other side that help keep us grounded and thinking about things from consumer's perspectives, not just media kook's perspectives. haha.

But I won't buy a bike from Trek again they have a long history of flawed bikes, issues, factory assembly issues. So but atleast their fs frame have been beefed up. ​Better pivots. And the way Trek Norway treated me I won't buy a Trek as warranty is voided for no reason, but back then the frame I had was junk, and parts won't fix it only a new frame would. Never got a new frame. I don't know if this is the case now. But ain't wasting time on it and can't reccomend it. But flawed bikes badly assembled I can't reccomend it. And now this chain drop issue. That's a bummer to hear about your experience with Trek Norway...@@mtbboy1993 I know brands, especially Trek do check out our comments section as we usually have engaging and productive commenters and they have been known to try and contact/reach out to people. Perhaps them seeing this feedback will be helpful in their discussions with outside distributors to ensure they are in-line with Trek USA's goals for customer service. It's always a bummer when folks have bad experiences, and sadly, no brand is without their own share of unhappy customers. We're sure whatever bike you buy next will have comments from people who dealt with the same stuff you mentioned above...All we can try to do is be better and continue to improve. Thanks for responding. I have added to my comment in attempt to clarify, but I will try to further explain here. I am sure the chain-drop problem is overblown, but the issue I take is, instead of just taking responsibility, (@2:27) they seem to be trying to gain sympathy by suggesting that their product is being unfairly attacked by a hostile, misinformed (or even disinformed) internet crowd. And this is in spite of the fact that almost every review on the bike notes the issue. This just came across as petulant, rather than professional. To me, a more professional response would have been to simply say something like, "we are sorry for the oversight and we are working hard to address the issue by doing X...this is an example of how we always stand behind our customers, even when our products aren't perfect." The additional finger pointing at internet commenters/possible consumers as a source of their trouble was not helpful in either explaining the scope of the issue or regaining trust in the product. It just seemed like a naive attempt to disperse blame, rather than take full responsibility for their failure. I also noted that that particular wording @2:27 was not included on the review on the website. @@TheLoamWolf

Got 2022 carbon slash 9.8 xt at a bargain price and love the bike. 2021-23 frame slash one of the most attractive frames ive ever seen which was one of the big selling points of slash. Second the performance was amazing. This new one has ugly frame and ive heard performance isnt all that impressive. Idk imo this bike is big boomer from trek and i always hype and biased with Trek. Their new fuel ex and exe is amazing, rail amazing. Slash is total downgrade. those pivot system is just a way to over complicate things for no reason.

Actually, if I owned a Trek Slash and it was having difficulties, the only way to reconcile the problems is to simply accept it. So really, the problems are there, but if you paid the $$$’s for it, it’s your responsibility to make it right. It’s unfortunate that Trek is pushing poor engineering to the general consumer’s, while using the MTB community to provide the needed feedback to fix their poor performance/engineering. To me honestly this would be returned right through the front window… That’s just me though. 😂 Poor uphill, drops chain during gnarly trails, and is pivot heavy Mr. Bob while pedaling…. Forget it.

This is something they should have tested and improved upon before taking 4k OR MORE from everyone who purchased it. The band aid fixes like the knock block and chain line spacers and jockey wheels. No one is being hostile they are just pointing out how lazy the company is for not resolving this issue before taking everyone's money. But they happily cut you and pinkbike a check rather than making a good product that has thoroughly been tested. Plenty of brands make more durable carbon at a better price point.

While we don’t disagree that releasing a bike with an issue in performance is problematic, based on what the brand has told us, and forgive us for accepting their word as true, the issue seems like it’s a relatively small percent of the bikes sold, Trek is hardly the only brand who has released a product that has a flaw. You must be new to bikes if you don’t remember SRAM and RockShox countless nightmare issues to name one popular bro-brand that everyone seems to love, despite a checkered past. Whether it’s a car company, dog food manufacturer or a bike brand, things get put into the market that are bad, shit happens. No excuses or schilling. We’ve put out bad content, reviews we weren’t thrilled on etc. this isn’t one of them and to accuse us of getting a check to have conducted this review is not only incorrect but insulting. Ad you’ll read above in one of our replies to someone who thanked us for our honesty and pointing out the goods and bads of this bike, we take pride in knowing we test and review bikes as straightforward as possible so people can make the decision for themselves. @TheLoamWolf now you're going to tell me I'm insulting you and then assume I'm new to bikes? You must not know Trek as a company very well. Easy fixes solutions and testing could avoid most of the problems they have and not taking shortcuts they take plenty of them countless times more than rockshox or sram, and that's not even a good comparison. This product release was downright, lazy. They have a test course right across the street at their own headquarters, and there are no excuses a faulty chain line without proper testing. It could have easily been avoided, especially given the resources they have they have plenty. Instead, it's at the expense of their customers. Grant it there, and carbon lay ups have gotten slightly better only because people started opening their eyes to how easy it used to be to snap their frames or flex them till tire rubs both sides of the stays, i got rid of my gen 6 fuel becase the rear triangle was so flexy. I've snapped the chainstays on a carbon trek stache. I've had real-world experience with a lot of their products, and most are not impressive. I thought maybe my first comment didn't post, but I'm beginning to believe you deleted it, but I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt like I tried to with trek many times. I didn't think getting a check from trek was insulting and if it truly is an unbiased review with NO agenda my apologies. Just doesn't look like it at this point doesn't seem like a small percentage of folks had issues with it. But what do i know I'm not on the production line who knows maybe their employees where putting the wrong spacers in or the shops weren't trained on how to set it up correctly either way it doesn't change my mind there's better company's to buy from that sell better bikes.

Well appreciate you sharing and going into such detail on your reply. We never denied, agreed with Trek or defended them or said that it isn’t a bummer a flagship bike has issues. And even above in your comment we agree. All we’re saying is they’re not alone and you could probably name whatever brand you think is better to support and have 5-10 comments from customers who have been let down and will never support them for their own reason. All we’re saying is yes accidents happen, and they should be learning opportunities for brands (humans) to do better. And as far as getting checks to endorse bikes is concerned, we do not have not and will not endorse any product that was paid for. So to us, having someone say “Enjoy your check” is petty clearly inferring we’re being paid by a company to sell their product or endorse them, which has never been the case. We’ve struggled as a self funded, rider-owned business to grow and survive because of it. So hopefully you can see how it is insulting to make accusations that we’re corrupt and raking in dough from the bike industry to lie to people when we're working our butts off just to have the chance to do this. @TheLoamWolf I had no idea you were not paid or endorsed the title of the video kind of seemed like a response to another video of a pro binning there 5k slash. If you are actually completely independent in your reviews with no funding biases or promotions then props to you I'm sure that takes a lot of work I'd be insulted as well if someone told me that in your shoes. Especially if your being honest.

Im on a 2021 yt capra mk2 27.5 and ive never needed to upgrade sorry bikes dont changed that radically to warrant a 6500 new bike and trek sucks

lb video talking crap about the bike is from a failed trek rider that was dropped from the brand for being rubbish he has beef with trek and if a so called pro rider cant set up a bike and talk to trek first about his problem to find out there was a fix tells you all you need to know about said person
