The fact that she then has an outstanding fantastic voice and theatrical body language only makes everything even better. The musicians are also amazingly good. They give everything to complete this masterpiece! This little Norwegian girl reads the English lyrics while singing! She is from Norway and they speak Norwegian there. English is Angelina's 3rd language! Already at 5-6 years old, she understands exactly what is meant in the English lyrics! Incredible! A genius at work. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. Thank you guys for your reaction to the legendary AJ being legendary , 9 yrs old her own arrangement I think it was released when she was 10, the beginning of the video shows her giving the band leader her last minute wishes (changes) . The band called her affectionally the boss as she knew everything she wanted., She was pretty much a pro by this age 10yrs old was epic. Only one AJ. 💗👣

Hey I just read all the cements and saw where the candle was mentioned . I heard something that I haven't been able to verify about that candle... but Here goes... I heard that Angelina's Grandmother Mery bought that candle when she and her eventual Husband saw Screaming Jay Hawking in a concert. The person said the concert was in Japan and at the time, they were just dating and were not married yet. Like I said I haven't been able to verify the authenticity of this story. I recently saw Angelina in Portsmouth NH. and can truthfully say she is my all time favorite vocalist. i've had favorites in the past like Barbera Streisand, Whitney Houston etc... but not a single one made me cry and at the same time filled me with love the way Angelina has done countless times. I've been to so many concerts I can't remember them all but i do know i've never shed a tear at any one of them but when in Portsmouth, Angelina' had me crying several times. I very seldom cry but she Moves me to tears quite often. It was her 1st USA concert and i had 2nd row seats directly in front of her about 8 feet away. I'm 65 in December and seeing her live was the top thing on my bucket list, She is amazing. I don't have the words to describe how magnificent she is Live. ❤❤❤

He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. Thank you for continuing to feature Angelina. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Since you watched the original version, did you notice the candle she was holding? She appears to be channeling Screaming Jay Hawkins, almost Voodoo style, and rearranged the song herself to her own liking. She's normally not this over the top in her performances, and I don't consider this to be her normal singing style. But as for her jazzy, bluesy voice inflections, your right, she carrys those through to the present day. The black and white filming, and projector sound were added for effect. It was recorded in 2015 when she was 9 tears old.

In this epic B/W version she had to modulate her voice here and there to achieve the desired lower key, but on German television she no longer needed vocal tools, she went low - I mean REALLY LOW - with ease. Unfortunately, this version is rarely viewed and even more rarely used for reactions.

Angelina is a remarkable young talent, I see you've seen a few others. This young lady was in the studio at the age of 6. One notable performance is (I who have nothing). The audio isn't polished because Grandma's video camera picking up the booth speaker. But you can still hear an impressive 1st attempt at the song. Really ! I watched them and it was good . I actually remember Screaming Jay Hawkins who wrote and recorded it . I have seen many adults perform this song . its a great song . never a bad performance but this performance is on another level . 9yrs old and you want to compare it to adults version .
