Screamin Jay Hawkins has always been greatly overlooked and mostly forgotten about but he was a prolific musician also one of the first performance artists. He was a middle weight boxer and proposed to have fathered upwards of 70 to 90 children.

Without Angelina, I would have never heard of Screaming Jay Hawkins, I would never been able to pay respect to him as an outstanding and amazing artist. @@JaredandJordan Her ability to re-invent a song is second to none. The fact that she's been doing it for 7 years is incomprehensible. Her musical IQ is off the chart and probably only second to Mozart in history. Throw in the deep rich raspiness of her voice, and a strong family......thats as close a guarantee as you can get. You guys may need to crank up the videos to every 3 days, or do twofers. There is a video of all 4 NGT performances. I would suggest, with the incredible research you do, be the next place to go. My favorite of the 4 is I'm a Fool to Want You. I believe it was only days after she turned 8. It was done acapella, with the other contestants in back of her and in front of the 4 judges. She shows ZERO signs of any nervousness. It is so hauntingly good, you'll be speechless for a moment. Thanks again for really bringing to the table proper reactions!!

Probably the longest intro and most in-depth reaction I’ve ever seen, to an Angelina performance. The vast majority of the reactors to this particular performance are left speechless. You have an amazing journey ahead of you, and I suggest you go back to her performances on Norway’s Got talent. She’s amazing there and the “angels” get to experience how like a fine wine she improves with age every year. Some of her best performances are with a solo guitar or piano, but when she had a full band or orchestra, it only gets more amazing.

But there is a huge difference in terms of musical understanding. Christina was all pyrotechnics all the time, doing everything because she could. Going forward, you’ll see that Angelina only ever does what she needs to communicate the meaning of the song so that you can FEEL it. The fun thing about this particular number, is that it is so theatrical that Angelina can for once go all out with vocal techniques a nine year old shouldn’t even know about, never mind master. You fellows are dead on. The spirit of the song possesses her. She goes somewhere else and feels the emotion. The word is empath. Then she does not imitate rather she interprets. The word they used in the 40s is chanteuse. You guys do research so you will see this. BTW she worked with some of these same musicians in Hawkins Portrait of a Man renamed Portrait of a Child . You will see how she works with musicians. View the enhanced version with subtitles. In this video you see her giving the producer her notes called "wishes." I think we put too much on her "arrangements" and better to call them collaborations. You can see a video of this when she is working on her final Norway's Got Talent performance of Summertime. She is sweet and polite but make no mistake, she is the boss, a term some musicians use affectionately about her.

A wonderful reaction to Angelina. I've been around for quite a few years and enjoyed the vocals and musicality of a number of great artists. No one and I honestly mean no one has touched my heart and core like Angelina. There is something very special yet unassuming of this beautiful young woman. LIstening to and watching Angelina transports me to a place of love and warmth where the best part of me resides. She is without doubt my favorite all-time singer. Most talk about her incredible vocals with which I too concur. However, for me what makes Angelina so very special is the quality of her heart, soul and spirit and what is shared behind and beyond the words and vocals when she sings . You both are great. Angelina was 9 years old in this video. This was her own arrangement paying tribute to the original artist Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Many people are not aware that Sreamin’ Jay Hawkins was an opera singer and a boxing champ. He joined the army at age 13 using forged ID. He was a formidable opponent in the army and later in the airforce boxing circuits. He won several boxing golden glove awards mostly in his hometown of Cleveland. In 1949 he won Alaska’s middleweight title. 9 years old Angelina Jordan just delivered him a TKO. LOL Thank you for your excellent reaction video of Angelina Jordan and keep up the good work.

I’m really enjoying watching you two react to this wonderful prodigy. She does boggle the mind. And takes your breath away. At this age and up to early teens I think she studied other singers and channeled their voices. That’s not at all a bad thing. All vocalists do it. But at 15-16 I’d say Angelina has found her own very distinctive voice. Taking from all those influences. My hope is that she will continue singing jazz. Though I know her plans will be to reach a wider audience. (Jazz is a hard sell) She needs to cover more Winehouse as that music crosses both genres. And her voice lends itself to Amy’s music. The person, who was and is inspiration for her, introducing her to jazz, empowering her, is her Grandma, Iranian artist Mery Zamani, the woman, who handed over the candle to her in the beginning. There is a strong bonding between these both. At "Norway's Got Talent", in the age of 7/8 (she won) she covered Billie Holiday, who is her absolute role model. She also did a breathtaking version of "I'm A Fool To Want Yo" - acappella. Some talked of reincarnation. I like this thought, because Billie Holiday had such a hard life. She would deserve, to grow up so protected. Btw. , the co-musicians in the band, she was working with, called her "the boss", because she was so professional, working seriously, respectful and humble, , with a clear image, what she wanted (wants). Angelina speaks 3 languages fluidly: Norwegian, Farsi and English. Her maternal Grandfather was Japanese, her father is Swedish, so she speaks a little Japanese and Swedish too. You see her writing a note to the bandleader at the very beginning of the video. Those were her last minute “wishes” as she called them, basically her directions on how she wanted the music to be played. So yes, she plans the music as well as the singing.

Oh my, every reactor to Angelina’s music usually goes into it with nearly the same amount of background information as you two guys have. It is SO satisfying to hear a reaction that has so thoroughly utilized this background information in order to understand this once in a lifetime artist. Angelina’s incomparable music deserves it - thank you for sharing it with us. As to “cultural appropriation”... that argument will be blown out of the water when you hear MULTIPLE covers of Frank Sinatra’s music of the 60’s, or MULTIPLE covers of Queen or Amy Winehouse, or many others. Yes, Albert. You said more accurately what I was thinking. I was trying to indicate that many commenters provide background about Angelina to reactors, but many of them don’t take the time to read the comments before proceeding to their next Angelina reaction. What I failed to acknowledge is what you just pointed out... that many reactors also don’t bother doing a little upfront research that would otherwise improve their reactions. Jared and Jordan are definitely not in that category - they do their homework ahead of time and it shows in their well researched, excellent reaction. Thanks Albert for clearing that up and pointing out what I should have! 👍😉
