Theyll just drown out whatever they dont want to listen to by ignoring it and scrolling the phone. Or putting on headphones and listening to whatever music is popular at the time. So they cant learn older hits.

Because so much of the broad musical appreciation of people surrounding music of the 70's was from radio, not everyone know what different performers looked-like. Even album cover art did not always display the band members on records. If you didn't see them live, that was it it. That's one of the major reasons why MTV was considered so revolutionary for the broader public.

When the younger generation knows the song, but not the artist, it’s probably because they heard the song in a movie. If they also know the artist, it’s because the artist is one of the greatest. People need to remember that from 1970-75 kids were still being drafted and being sent to Vietnam, so the difference between the music at the beginning of the 70's like War in 1970, Imagine by John Lennon in 71, what's going on by Marvin Gaye in 71, and what came out in the fun disco music towards the end of the 70's sends a message to how things were going with the youth of the 70's. I hope this generation never lives through the draft lottery where kids tuned in to watch and see if their birthday was selected. I couldn't imagine being a 19 year old with the birthday of September 14 and waiting for that letter telling me to report or watching your friends leave and being the lucky on not called. Imagine looking for your date and praying it was at the bottom of the list. God Bless them.
