This is one of the finest songs ever written. A young musician reminiscing about his childhood in Liverpool. It was so good it was released as a single in February 1967 along with John’s masterpiece ‘Strawberry Fields Forever. ‘. The Beatles are the best. It’s so nice to see a young lady like yourself enjoying their music. Wonderful.

"Penny Lane" is based on Paul McCartney's memories of growing up in Liverpool, just as "Strawberry Fields Forever" was based on John Lennon's memories. The two songs were on opposite sides of the same single. Record companies liked to put their hit songs on different singles to increase sales, but in this case the public got two hit songs for the price of one. When "Penny Lane" transitions from the verses into the choruses , the pitch goes up, but the key modulates down by a full tone. It goes back to the original key when it transitions from the chorus back to the verse. This gives the choruses a wistful feeling. The Beatles had so many great songs that it's hard to narrow down my recommendations. Here are a few: "A Day in the Life" - the last track on the Sgt. Pepper album Abbey Road Medley - the tracks from side B of the Abbey Road album, starting with "You Never Give Me Your Money" and ending with "Her Majesty." Most of the songs are short, and the entire medley is about 16 minutes long. Listen to them one after the other as if there were a single piece of music (each segues smoothly into the next). I should warn you there are some versions of the medley on KZbin that move "Her Majesty" from the end into the middle of the set, based on the mistaken idea that this is how The Beatles intended it. The KZbin video titled "Medley from ABBEY ROAD" on the "Maxime PETAUTON" channel is a good one to listen to, with the tracks in their proper order. "Eleanor Rigby" - An unusual and haunting song and performance Thanks!

I recall reading that The Beatles recorded nine different piano tracks for various sections on this song. A few months earlier, they announced that they were no longer going on🎉 tour or perform live. As a consequence, they intended to devote all of their energy into further developing their craft in the recording studio.

This is Paul's song about the local bus stop in a town square just blocks from his home on Forslin ave (just off Booker). The fire station is actually down the street a bit, but the barber shop and bank and the central station where the girls would sell flowers. Paul wrote this in answer to John writing Strawberry fields forever, about a little church garden around the block from his aunt Mimi's home on Menlove ave. John used to hide in the small woods there as a child, and had a little fort when he was 10-12 years old.

The Fire station (a fireman is mentioned in the song) was about a mile further along past Allerton Road, on Mather Avenue. Happy days, but they passed all too quickly. The shelter in the middle of a roundabout, was a small bus terminus office. I think it was the 46 bus that terminated there.

Paul singing...tells the story of the place he grew up in Liverpool. The trumpet player, David Mason, was from philharmonic orchestra playing piccolo trumpet, short very high playing trumpet. Mason became a member of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, moving on later to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra where he eventually became principal trumpet. After seven years in that role he moved to the Philharmonia, where he remained for most of the rest of his orchestral career. He was a professor of trumpet at the Royal College of Music for thirty years and thus taught many of the trumpet players who now make up the core of the profession in the UK.

You should do Strawberry Fields next. It was the other side of this 45 rpm single disc, a "double A side" single. Penny Lane & Strawberry were peaks of that period of the Beatles, and were the first songs recorded in the Sgt Pepper sessions.
